Roach wants 60-40 for Pacquiao in Mayweather fight

..and everybody is saying Mayweather is always asking too much. Not only does Freddy want the larger cut, he wants to fight at a catch-weight again. I don't understand how Pacquiao can even be considered a welterweight (never mind hold titles) when he has never fought at 147. Boxing is starting to get ridiculous. Put the greed aside and lets see the fight. Just my 2 cents.

Between Mayweather getting the smaller cut and then having to come in at a 145 pound catch weight, the fight would seem dead in the water if those are the final terms from Pacquiao’s side.

Roach says that Pacquiao would have to have a different fighting style for the Mayweather bout. “We [Pacquiao] need time to get ready for that fight. We have to come out with a real different style,” Roach says. You can say that again. Pacquiao would have to change his fighting style in a major way for a fight against Mayweather, because he fights nothing like Pacquiao’s last three opponents. Mayweather won’t be trying to trade shots with Pacquiao like Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Cotto did. All three fought more or less by standing directly in front of Pacquiao and trying to trade shots with him.

Roach doesn’t think a fight against Mayweather would be nearly as interesting as the Cotto fight ended up, saying “Cotto came to fight and Mayweather comes to run. He [Floyd] makes a boring fight, but a lot of people will buy tickets to see him lose.” Roach is right. Mayweather won’t stay and trade with Pacquiao, because his entire came in build around his defense and his ability to punch and move. Cotto was able to avoid getting hit when he started moving in the 2nd half of the fight. You could expect that Mayweather will do much better than Cotto did in that department.

Mayweather is faster than Cotto, and a much better counter puncher compared to him. Pacquiao, in effect, could be facing a bigger, faster version of Juan Manuel Marquez if he chooses to fight Mayweather. Fighter A can be all wrong in everything him and his team tries going into a fight with Mayweather. But you will never hear much negative said unless it is about Mayweather. No matter what the facts are.

Im sorry but when was this article originally posted? I read in another thread/forum that Roach is insistent on a 50-50 split and conceded the weight issue to 147, but he wants the say in the gloves.

I think this article was made just after the fight. Roach has already changed his stand regarding this issue me thinks.

Of course he is going to say higher, they both are. Any sort of give and the other party is going to jump all over it. When all is said in done it will be 50/50. It is negotiating.

I think you are right. Roach has already toned down on some of his wants. This article is probably an initial tactic. But to be fair, Roach did say if PBF asks for 60/40 then he is scared and is pricing himself out.

You are 100% correct. I should have specified more clearly that I was talking about title fights.
Pacquiao only came in at 145 for that fight but that is completely his decision. IMO it was far from an impressive win, Oscar looked like a corpse.

^147 should be the limit. Meaning 147 is the highest they can weigh in at, but if they choose to weigh less its their decision. Roach was trying to make it at a mandatory catch weight. Meaning even tho its a welterweight fight, they wouldn't allow Floyd to come in at the welterweight limit. That was completely unfair considering they'd be fighting for the welterweight titles. I'm glad he realized how foolish that was.

The 50/50 split or a 60/40 to the winner is the only option i see both fighters agreeing to.

But having a say in the gloves is foolish. Everything should be at an even playing field. A standard size ring, fighters pick their own gloves, etc. This is a fight that should not be tainted with the possibility of excuses from the losing camp.

60/40 on either side is ridiculous, and this whole catchweight garbage should just be thrown out, 50/50 and each fighter weighs whatever the fuck they want as long as it's between 141-147, and as for the gloves, for fuck sake wear whatever goddam gloves you want, Pacquiao wants his damn clitoris gloves (Reyes), well use them, if Floyd wants his Grants or Winnings, then hell let him wear his own fucking gloves, you know that Roach would only want Mayweather to use Reyes since it's already clearly known that they favor Manny in terms of power, and also they're not the ideal glove of choice when it comes to fighters with hand probs (such as Floyd), make the fight and throw the damn drama out the window, next we'll be hearing them fight about what colors the other can't use on his trunks :rolleyes:

Well it happens in just about every top level fight. There's always someone with advantages - hometown, ref, judges, gloves, ring size, time of fight, etc..

Normally the champion.. unless the challenger is the much bigger money draw. ;)

I don't believe any of these stories anymore. "We should have this"...."but we should have this"....ad infinitum until eventually a fight gets made.

Who is Roach to demand anything anyway? Isn't that stubble face just the trainer?

But anyway, it should be 50/50 all things considered.

If Roach thinks Pac is so good why does he insist on trying to weight drain pacs opponants?

Simple do a 60/40 split the winner gets 60 the loser gets 40. Both parties should be happy with that, cuz neither thinks they'll lose....

Its amazing how elusive this concept is to some. Roach wants 60/40, Ellerbee wants the "lions share", yawn.

If you make unreasonable demands, 50-50 starts to sound like a really reasonable landing place during negotiation.
