Ellerbe: We'll look to Mosley if Pac crumbles
Shane Mosley Next For Mayweather if Pacquiao Crumbles - Boxing News
This is great for Shane, if Shane can get past berto, because it will set him up for a fight against the winner of PAC/FLOYD. Or if they can't agree on the purse he will leap frog one of them.
-
Re: Ellerbe: We'll look to Mosley if Pac crumbles
I think this is just a negotiation tactic... I can't see them moving away from Pacquiao-Mayweather its too big, and HBO along with the fans want it too badly.

Exactly. Mosley - Mayweather isn't a bad consolation prize, thought I think Floyd beats him handily.
-
Re: Ellerbe: We'll look to Mosley if Pac crumbles
I knew those other reports were BS!! :) This is good news although i want Floyd to fight Pac, if they can't agree to fight then mosley would be the 2nd best fight
-
Re: Ellerbe: We'll look to Mosley if Pac crumbles
Worst career move for Floyd if he doesn't fight Pac. I agree with above posters, just trying to gain leverage in negotiating. Fighting Mosley would bring in some money for sure, but I don't think it would even bring in half of what Pac and Floyd would do. It's going to crush records I feel
-
Re: Ellerbe: We'll look to Mosley if Pac crumbles
Feel free to bash me to bits, but Floyd will never fight Shane. He scared of Shane. This is just to psych up the Pac Camp.

I won't bash you at all because I think the same, they will offer Shane the fight in 3-4 years at best just to make sure he's shot.
-
Re: Ellerbe: We'll look to Mosley if Pac crumbles
Good news. At least we're assured that Mayweather will be facing tougher competition. Pacquiao, Mosley/Berto are the next possible opponent for Floyd. Great.
-
Re: Ellerbe: We'll look to Mosley if Pac crumbles
i hope that the Floyd Pac fight gets made but I would be happy for a Floyd Moseley fight as well.

I thought he was shot when he was limping to the finish line against Mayorga! Then he got that last second knockout and has gone from strength to strength since. I wasn't even sure if he'd have won on points, I was undecided.

Re: Ellerbe: We'll look to Mosley if Pac crumbles
This might just very well be posturing or tactics on the part of Floyd Jr's negotiating team. Money, money money.... MONEY! The one named after it certainly would not, in his right mind, turn down an opportunity to make a monster killing of it!
By the way, found this.... Nice to be reassured that the PBF team is not about to bolt out of this potential mega-fight, as other posters are worried of, in any shape or form that easy!
That's one end, while on the other end... here's hoping that Bob Arum, of TOPRANK, doesn't allow old wounds from the PBF discord to detract from attaining a fruition for this biggest boxing date,(in a very long while).
This has to be made not only for the fans but for the health of the sport of boxing in general!
***********
Floyd can choose anyone he wishes to negotiate for him," Arum went on. "I assume that if Floyd wants to do the fight then that person will emerge. But Floyd doing it himself will be a catastrophe."
When told of Arum's comments, Leonard Ellerbe, an adviser to Mayweather, chuckled and provided a window into the discord that exists between the two camps. Arum is Mayweather's former promoter.
"Mayweather Promotions is discussing Floyd's options right now," Ellerbe said. "When it comes time to express those options, Richard (Schaefer) will be the one to express our position to Top Rank.
"This is typical Arum, to be playing games like this. It's no secret, the whole world knows that both camps don't see eye to eye. But Floyd has made it perfectly clear that he wants the fight."

Promoter Bob Arum told jabs at Floyd Mayweather Jr. camp because of stalled Manny Pacquiao talks

Re: Ellerbe: We'll look to Mosley if Pac crumbles
Say Mayweather and Pacquiao teams can't make a contract because they can't agree on the split.
Given the choice, who do you think Mosley would opted to fight? Mayweather or Pacquiao?
Mayweather would probably ask for a 75/25 split while Pacquiao a 65/35 split and 142lbs. (Just kidding....)
But really who would Mosley rather fight? Which fighter would be bigger for Mosley's legacy?

How nice would it be to be Mosley with an bidding war between Pacquiao and Mayweather for your name.

If Floyd is scared of Mosley, why did he call him out a couple of years ago?
I do agree that this is just a negotiating ploy though.

I don't think Floyd is afraid of anyone, but he has had a few chances to fight Shane since the calling out and hasn't taken them. Floyd views Shane as the riskiest opponent (other than Paul) out there for him and if he can make the same amount of money fighting a less risky fighter, why fight Shane? He could have fought Shane instead of Marquez and it would have been a much bigger fight, legacy wise and money wise (although less so on the last point). He could have fought Shane after fighting Marquez and fought Pacquiao afterward, but instead he dismisses Shane and waits for Pacquiao. The reason isn't fear; the reason is risk/reward.
It is reasonable to think that PBF will fight Pacquiao and if he loses, he'll fight a rematch with Pacquiao, and probably retire never having fought Shane.
-
Re: Ellerbe: We'll look to Mosley if Pac crumbles
Why exactly would Floyd be scared of Shane? He did call him out before, Mosley didn't want the fight. Now that Shane is getting old and desperate for one big final payday, Floyd is the scared one for not wanting to fight him?

Re: Ellerbe: We'll look to Mosley if Pac crumbles
I think Mayweather happily will fight the winner of Berto-Mosley & in truth I think they'd prefer to fight Mayweather, because I can't see the split being any worse than Pacquiao & they won't have to fight at a catchweight, which will be even lower for Mosley & Berto if I know ol' Freddie.
However, it is all posturing, Mayweather & Pacquiao will fight in Las Vegas sometime between March & June 2010. Fact.

Nah It will be at a major sports arena...If they have it at Yankees Stadium it will have a larger gate. They're even talking about Cowboy Stadium which has a capacity of 100k not including the seating that will be brought in to place at ring side. It doesn't need to be in Vegas.

It doesn't need to be, but it will. The gate won't be significantly larger because you have to bear in mind how much you can charge for tickets in a casino as opposed to a stadium. Plus when the MGM Grand put up a $20m site fee everyone will forget about it being in a stadium.
Look at it from a promoters point of view, why take the risk of putting it in a stadium where you can't guarantee that every ticket gets sold, when you can have a guarantee at a casino, plus making money off the extra PPVs.

Re: Ellerbe: We'll look to Mosley if Pac crumbles
Floyd said a while back that Mosley was going to be the last person he met after he had fought teh rest of them. They have been rivals for the longest time so I think he feels its only right that he ends his career with him. The big fight will finally happen. At the moment people think the big one is with Pac but after Floyd fights him everyone will look back at Pac and question his recent wins. All the attention will move to Mosley in the biggest fight of the decade.

Dunno about the biggest fight of the decade but agree with everything else. i hope Floyd does fight both Manny and Sugar Shane.

Floyd will never fight Shane. Ever. That is his one genuine threat to take his 0. Do you think if Pac called out Floyd the way Shane did, Floyd would not take the fight? Shane will try and walk through Mayweather.

Floyd already offered to fight Shane back in 99 when Shane and him were both undefeated and Shane declined. he also wanted Shane again after the Vargas knockout when Shane looked great. So, Floyd isn't looking to fight Shane when he's sure he's shot. That's a job for someone like Freddie Roach ;)

Do you have an article or video to back this up? Or is it another case of floyd parrot-itis?
I mean a specific mentioning of floyd saying "i want mosley" much like mosley has been doing him over th past year.

And you may be right. Mosley called out Pac worse than anyone. He called Roach's bluff about the 65/35 split and the catchweight of 143. Mosley went on TV and said I'll take that. Roach never responded so Mosley went to Roach's gym and Roach said can you make the catchweight and Mosley said yeah. Roach still seemed to dance around the answer. So Mosley said what do I have to do to fight Pac. Roach declined to comment. I don't think either Pac or PBF want Mosley for their own reasons but what if Mosley conceded to all that to fight PBF then what would people say?

I haven't look for an article on this but I was an avid Mosley fan at the time and I remember it well. I can't believe you don't remember this. Mosley didn't decline he just priced himself out. Mayweather was at 130 and Mosley was the fearsome lightweight and when offered a fight with Mayweather Mosley said he'd need 10 million dollars(something like that it was a crazy number). Even Zab lobbied for Mosley to move up and fight. Shortly after Mosley moved up 2 weight classes. Not saying that Mosley was scared at the time but he did pass up on 2 opportunities with undefeated exciting fighters. He ended up getting DLH so maybe his reason was he didn't want to risk losing that possible opportunity. And the after the Vargas fight this is all over youtube. You can look that up with no problem. Mosley dodged answering the question saying he had to get his teeth fixed and go on vacation with his family.

That is a 100% true
The previous occurence I found an article back in 07 I believe and posted it in another thread about Mayweather bashing..
How anyone can say Floyd is afraid of Shane is so proposterous, Mosely is there to be outboxed and has been Forrest, Winky, Cotto
Shane gets visibly frustrated and wild when he is getting out boxed, the more disheveled he gets the more he gets hit.. Mosely has quick hands but dosent have the footspeed or the angles to bother Floyd.. I mean Shane will always have a punchers chance and always is in a fight because he is one durable sumbitch with an iron jaw.. But I see it UD Mayweather 8 rounds to 4.

Its not 100% true..Shane said "I've already made plans to go on vacation with my family, so he can go fight cotto or somebody and then we can fight in feb or march"
That's what Shane said which is still more than anything floyd has been on record of saying in regards to fighting Shane. Which is by no means ducking him. Its like if manny says "ive had four very tough fight over the past two years and want a break" people would say he's ducking floyd.

Yeah, you hit the nail right on the head: If Gayweather doesn't get in the ring with Pac, he looks like a punk, who is willing to fight an old man in Mosley...a very capable old man, but an old man at that.
Floyd is finally thinking he may be facing his Waterloo. LOL And Pac ain't Napolean in this scenario.

Re: Ellerbe: We'll look to Mosley if Pac crumbles
Bullshit!
Somebody's just stirring up the honey pot.
The funds & fame that the 24/7 bit alone would draw to Floyd off of a Pac bout will be enough to get this sold.
It's a dun-deal & you all know it!!!! ;D

Re: Ellerbe: We'll look to Mosley if Pac crumbles
Ellerbe is lying. If the Pac deal crumbles, they will look for less threatening opponent. They will look for a nobody, like a prospect from Mexico or somethin'.
