My opinion is
Kessler need a new trainer, Ricard Olsen can`t help Kessler anymore, He had not even a fucking plan B for Kessler against Ward, we saw the same thing against Calzaghe,no plan B, the only advice he had in both fight, was Knock them out, it is not a fucking plan B
Kessler need a new style and the man to help him with that is Joe Calzaghe`s father, Enzo Calzaghe

His level of competition after Calzaghe probably did more harm than good. He needs to learn how to fight dirty when he needs to, work on defense as well as offense and needs like you said a new trainer.

Why not someone like Emmanuel Steward whom Kessler's base style seems to suit perfectly. Also, this might sound ridiculous, he needs more punches. He threw every punch virtually identically, from the same angle, the same way. I was really unimpressed with his right hand. It's good versus guys who are shorter then you and fight straight ahead like Librado Andrade but it was completely nullified. Compare that to Ward who threw from literally almost every different angle, mixed up his punches, and gave a zillion different looks to Kessler, it really made Kessler look robotic. With that said, I think fighting Froch will be good for him. His speed isn't terrible and honestly he was faster then I even expected, Froch won't pose any threat to him imo.
his 30 years old, its too late into his career to teach him anything new, i think winning the tournament may well be a big ask now but depends on the draw, i still think he can beat abraham and froch, i think dirrel could give him a few problems if he gets to the latter stages purley due to his style, as for taylor he seems like a sitting duck for anyone right now

Steward would be best. You're not gonna teach a guy his age and experience to all of a sudden become an in fighter, just accentuate the positives, hide the negatives if you can.
Learn how to fight on the inside, use his jab more. Use angles, more punch variety.

I have always liked Kessler, i have no idea why his last outing was lacklustre and non committal. He is better than that performance, i am still puzzled.

It is possible he just had a really off night. After Paul Williams lost to Quintana, he said that he just felt off that night, especially that he couldn't find the rhythm with his jab. I remember thinking (and posting here) that actually seemed like an accurate assessment. His performances since have given credence to that being the case.Quote:

I really expected Kessler to use more lateral movement and keep Ward off him, but he didn't, why? Because Ward didn't let him, Kessler looked bad because Ward took away almost his whole arsenal with his gameplan. I think Amat is right in that Steward would be the best choice of a trainer.
It could be Mikkel Kessler is overrated, it could be that Mikkel Kessler had an off night, or it could be a bad style match up. I personally think its a mix of all 3.Quote:

I don't want to say Kessler was overrated, but I lost a lot of respect for him the way he was whining after the fight! Its boxing mate, not ballet.
I dread to think what Froch will do to him, if he can't handle or accept those accidental headbutts. Froch is dirtier than that, Kessler might be in tears by the end of the fight!
People may laugh but I think Froch beats Kessler, he has zero upper body movement, decent footwork nothing special and his mental issues after his last fight could be a problem.
Kessler I love the guy one of my favourite fighters but I always said he is very over rated, hes decent at the basics thats it nothing special at anything.

I'm tending to lean that way now man.... Unless Froch can't take power shots from Kessler i think this is gonna be a great fight. Kessler's limited upper body movement will suit Froch's sloth like hooks and uppercuts down to the ground, but Froch is quite easy to hit if your pretty accurate and have good timing, which Kessler has both........ I have a feeling that this fight will be a FOTY war with both fighters really lacking movement. Its certainly not going to be a running contest thats for sure. I think both fighters could even be tasting the canvas in this fight. Bit of a last man standing job.....Quote:

People are crazy fast to jump ship from a fighter like Kessler. I was pulling for Ward but thought that Kess would ultimately take it. I figured Kessler would put pressure on him and ultimately cut off the ring, negating his movement and start to break him down. People are talking about "what happened with Kessler" and less about how great Ward fought. Sure there was some head clashes but shit happens... We're not playing patty cake.
Ward's in-fighting was superb. He looked like a whilly old vet in there... Kessler is used to picking dudes apart and then using his power to finish the job... But you need to start a job to finish it. Wards angles and movement coupled with his in-game befuddled Kessler.
Cut Kessler some slack. He fought probably one of the best young fighters in the world.
