Looks like Edison Miranda gets another title shot...
It was announced today that WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz (36-2, 22 KOs) will face power punching fan favorite Edison Miranda (33-4, 29 KOs) on January 9th at the Bördelandhalle in Magdeburg, Germany. It will be the first defense for Stieglitz, who dethroned Karoly Balzsay in August. Miranda is no stranger to Germany, having broken Arthur Abraham’s jaw in an epic showdown in September 2006. Also on the card will be WBC/WIBF/WBO female featherweight champion Ina Menzer defending her belts against WIBF super featherweight champion Ramona Kühne. The card was officially announced today. (More to come)

Re: Looks like Edison Miranda gets another title shot...
I think Miranda will win this one . It wasn't him that was bad against Ward , but it was that Ward is just that good. He'll probably be losing on points until he catches Steiglitz

Interesting matchup which should be fan-friendly.

Re: Looks like Edison Miranda gets another title shot...
Winnable fight for Miranda.
Kinda surprised Stieglitz's people picked Edison for his first title defense. I figured he would get the typical soft first title defense but full credit to him

Yeah, that was the best guy available and the most dangerous. Gotta give it up to the guy.

Re: Looks like Edison Miranda gets another title shot...
I think Miranda KO's him. Stieglitz had a lot of problems with the pressure that Andrade brought him and Miranda, who's now trained by Dan Goosen, loves thse type of fighters to face.

Re: Looks like Edison Miranda gets another title shot...
WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz (36-2, 22 KOs) is confident that he has the tools to defeat hard-punching Edison Miranda (33-4, 29 KOs) when they collide on January 9 at the Bördelandhalle in Magdeburg, Germany. “I’ve already had a look at Edison Miranda,” said Stieglitz at a Thursday press conference to announce the fight. “I already know how I can box him. He’s a strong man. I think we’ll have a thrilling fight. I’m already in top form, already at my fight weight, and could box immediately.”
Stieglitz’ trainer Torsten Schmitz added “We know that Miranda can punch very hard. Everyone could see that in the fight against Arthur Abraham. I think Robert and Miranda will have an action-packed fight.”

i agree mate, but with miranda he always has a punchers chance

Re: Looks like Edison Miranda gets another title shot...
I just dont think Miranda is at the top tier anymore and has been banking on only a punchers chance for quite some time.He wavered badly in with Ward and appeared to be wanting out and full of doubt, sluggish. From what Ive seen of Steiglitz hes a capable straight puncher, good thinker. As long as he keeps smart and not planted I go with him over 12.

Re: Looks like Edison Miranda gets another title shot...
I think Miranda gets this one because Stieglitz people more then likely figured he is done but still credible enough to look good on paper for a win...Especially for a first defense

Re: Looks like Edison Miranda gets another title shot...
Edison Miranda is the Ricardo Mayorga of the middleweights. A cocky knockout artist with crude skills and a rock jaw (not iron) that can be shattered with the right punch against better boxers and who will keep getting title shots one after another. I gotta go with Pantera in this 1 by brutal knockout early. But if it makes it the distance then it will be Stieglitz by home town decision.

Re: Looks like Edison Miranda gets another title shot...
Im sorry Miranda and rock jaws dont go together.

His jaw is not that bad considering he has only been knocked out by hard hitting guys like Pavlik and AA.

There are iron jawed fighters Vitali comes to mind and rock jawed fighters. Okay I'll put it in simple terms thats why I separated it in the 1st place. I would put Edison's jaw at a B and someone say like Hopkins at an A+ as far as whiskers go. His chin is not that bad... So to make sure we are clear Rock=B and Iron=A+.

Re: Looks like Edison Miranda gets another title shot...
If i were to put a picture of a professional fighter in the dictionary for the word 'One Dimensional fighter'. Its gotta be Miranda. He look so amateur in his fight againts Ward.
He's only chance is a KO shot. A decision win is out of the question.
-
Re: Looks like Edison Miranda gets another title shot...
He got a decision over Allan Green, people forget that fight but Green is now positioned over Miranda in most of the rankings. I think he is being sold short by a lot of people. It's not that easy to just outbox him on the outside, that's how you wind up a pressure fighter like him. I guess it can be said that neither of these guys like pressure very much but Miranda is more of a pressure fighter coming forward and that's why I think he'll win.

You could be right there. He just looks so bad againts Ward. And i thought he'll KO Pavlik too but was Dominated and kayoed.

Re: Looks like Edison Miranda gets another title shot...
Miranda is very underrated at this point in his career. But that is fine for me and I think it is actually a good thing. That is probably why he was given the opportunity to fight Stieglitz. All it takes is a win over Stiegltiz and with that belt and win he will be back in the mix. People will start believing in him again and think Joe Goossen has made him into 'championship' material. Im not saying this is all true... Just dont count him out yet. We gotta see what he has left and Stieglitz is a perfect opponent for him to be judged.

Re: Looks like Edison Miranda gets another title shot...
Look guys i enjoy watching miranda as much as the next guy but the dude is a fighter not a boxer and that's all it really takes to beat him. I don't see him ever really beating any of the top guys, i wish he would but i just don't see it. He's just to damn scary for one thing, so opponets are always gonna take that easy route out he gives them. I'm not forget-in the ass whooopin he put on abraham and all that but him outslugging pavlik was his best shot (cause pavlik aint the greatest boxer either and we all knew he'd stay and slug till one of them fell) .....anyhow i say call allan green most everyone else is tied up or will probaby think it's too short of notice. I also as a side note wish miranda would grow that big afro back, that made him look even scarier.

Re: Looks like Edison Miranda gets another title shot...
Edison ‘Pantera’ Miranda, who was scheduled to fight for the WBO belt against Robert Stieglitz, on Jan 9th in Germany has unfortunately been struck with the flu and had to cancel the bout. “For the past two weeks Edison has been fighting this thing but he just couldn’t shake it” says renowned trainer Joe Goossen. “We have been monitoring his health very closely and trying to get him through this. We had to pull the trigger and do what was right.” This fight would have been Miranda’s second title fight, losing his first encounter to Arthur Abraham in a very controversial war in what has become known as the Battle of Wetzlar. Edison was very much looking forward to returning to Germany and fighting in front of his many European fans.
“I want to apologize to everyone, Robert Stieglitz, Universum, the WBO, my team, and all boxing fans for not being able to make this fight happen. I am very upset with having to cancel. This was a great opportunity for me. Hopefully we can try to reschedule sometime in the next 4-6 weeks.” According to Team Pantera there are other opportunities that have been mentioned if the Stieglitz camp decides not to reschedule this bout. One name that has been mention is IBF belt holder Lucian Bute who is looking for an opponent to fight this April. “My first priority is to make the fight with Robert Stiegltiz happen as soon as possible. If this cannot happen I will look for the next best opponent who is willing to fight me.”

Miranda is NOTHING like Mayorga. Mayorga told DLH that he was going to F*** his wife and that his D*** was too small to please her.
Mayorga smoked a cigarette in the ring. Mayorga dyed his hair pink for the biggest fight of his life. Mayorga topped one of the best welterweights in History in 3 rounds acting like a manical wild-man and followed it up with a UD in the rematch.... Mayorga became a spoiler by winning the lineal title.
Mayorga was something really special and amazing.
Miranda has these heavy hands that's about it. I think he has been beat into submission 1 too many times and doesn't know how to fight without thinking he is going to get caught. Althought i like him as a person, I think he gets outboxed... maybe not KOed
