Prizefighter this Friday who you got?
As usual couple of casulties have took the gloss off but still few decent names in there.
Grant v Cook
Bami v Rees
Jones v Mutley
Barnes v Lynes
Im going with the semis looking like this
Grant v Rees
Jones v Barnes
Rees v Barnes
Im taking Barnes at 5/1 £20 quid on him :cool:

Re: Prizefighter this firday who you got?
I know that Jason Cook has been training very hard for this as he lives near me.
He has been going up to london and Bristol to get quality sparring and his weight is on target.
He looked bad in his last fight but I hope he can find his old form and win it.
-
Re: Prizefighter this firday who you got?
Looking at the draw I think Rees and Lynes. Trouble is they're first and second jolly.
Barnes might be the value but he hasn't fought in yonks, has he? :-\

Re: Prizefighter this firday who you got?
Hopefully, considering we've supplied three out of eight, hopefully we'll get at least one Welshman in the final.
Although Gavin Rees is the ex world titlist, he shouldn't really be a light-welter, could do with being a division or two lower. I reckon Bami might beat Rees, but get outdone by Barnes in the final.

Good shout I think Bami could be a handful for Rees especially with Rees style.

Re: Prizefighter this firday who you got?
Think Barnes is suited to the 3 rds

Re: Prizefighter this firday who you got?
Yeah Barns is a good bet,he stands out.Mind you the dark horse of the bunch could well be Cook, after all his last fight he had he got a really good win by KO,and he still looked fit and with the Prizefighter being 9 whole mintutes of slugging Cook could well be a winner or at least in the final fight.
Could someone find the odds of the fighters and put them on here,i would be interested to see the odds! Thanks;)

Re: Prizefighter this firday who you got?
Here's the odds I've just whipped off betdaq for you at the moment:
Rees 2/1
Lynes 10/3
Barnes 6/1
Grant 7/1
Jones 15/2
Bami 10/1
Cook 10/1
Mutley 100/8
Any other fighter 7/2
Good to see that any of the subs are third favourite for this one!

Re: Prizefighter this firday who you got?
Rees is shite, I am backing Bambi, but Barns will win it. :)

I always had the same problem with Gavin Rees....he was blatantly a huge underdog against M'baye, and won the title simply by trying harder, combined with Mbaye being lazy. Despite being a Welshman, Rees will be proving me wrong if he takes the Prizefighter title tomorrow.
-
Re: Prizefighter this firday who you got?
Bami has a chance if his chin holds up , hes good over short distances.
-
Re: Prizefighter this firday who you got?
Bami was poor in the "prizefighter welterweights," and is coming off a KO loss to Matt Hatton. I can't have him. What Rees lacks in size he'll make up for in workrate. Bami will need the KO to get through that.
Barnes-Lynes i can't split. But i'm picking Lynes because Barnes hasn't fought for 17 months and is flying back into a three rounder.
Muttley must have struggled to do this weight and is coming off a sparko job, so i'll take the younger Jones in that.
And unexposed Grant over out-of-retirement Cook. Cook is a heavy puncher though, Grant has been floored, so wouldn't be surprised if he made it through.
Overall I'm sticking with Rees (with a saver on Lynes). You can get better than 2/1 (11/4 WH). ;)

Re: Prizefighter this Friday who you got?
Didnt realise Grant was in it, He is a Dark Horse if He is fit.

Re: Prizefighter this Friday who you got?
Cant believe Rees is favourite at the bookies!Barns is a realistic bet, mind you i've got a bet on Jason Cook at 12/1.He has a chance with Prizefighter being a slug fest kind of tournament. His last fight was a great KO win for Cook,he still has aggression and power.
His recent fight in september, still has power!

I was going to back Barnes at 5/1 at the Coral bookmakers but then changed me mind and went for Cook as he could do really well after coming back into boxing with a big KO and with Prizefighter being a tournament for sluggers then i think Cook could well have a chance.Realistically Barnes should be favourite not Rees, but i want Cook to win as im skint of ££££s and could do with a bit of luck these days.

Re: Prizefighter this Friday who you got?
I agree with Scrap Grant is the drak horse, hes very decent fighter I think he beats Cook all day, Cooks last fight was at Light Middleweight, Cook is way past it for me.
-
Re: Prizefighter this Friday who you got?
Prizefighter isn't a tournament for sluggers.
Sexton
Lomax
Audley
McKenzie
-
Re: Prizefighter this Friday who you got?
Scrap and Skel could be right about the dark horse
Money seems to have been coming for Grant all day.

Totally agree, I think the Lynes Barnes fight is they key, I didnt like the way Lynes struggled with Mcclosky and Barnes has a similar style hands low throwing crisp quick hooks from the southpaw stance, depends if the 17 months have effected Barnes.
-
Re: Prizefighter this Friday who you got?
All the money is for Lynes.
-
Re: Prizefighter this Friday who you got?
Where you seeing the money for Lynes? I think he's drifted with some firms.
Totally agree about the Barnes fight. I'm hoping the layoff does him.

Vitcor Chandler have them 5/2 the pair.

No it's 9pm mate.
And the odds have been changing with the different firms a lot. Barnes and Rees have shorten with plenty too. Nobody has got a clue ;D

Re: Prizefighter this Friday who you got?
Was quite impressed with Gavin Rees, especially his chin against Cookie which was his toughest fight IMO. I reckon Mutley took a harsh break against Lynes in the semi, but he too would have been outdone by Gav in that mentality.
Wonder what he does from here, or if he just disappears for another 18 months to drink away his 32k.

Re: Prizefighter this Friday who you got?
Easy money. ;D
I think Rees was trying to give me a heart attack when he was toe-to-toe winging with Cook. Good fight. Good final too.
