Some news on the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight
The negotiations for a possible $80 million super fight between pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao and former No.1 Floyd Mayweather Jr have been stalled and its not because Top RBank promoter Bob Arum and Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer have hit a snag. Its all because of Pacquiao’s reported firm decision to run for a congressional seat in Sarangani.
After a series of frantic overseas telephone conversations with Pacquiao’s lawyer Franklin “Jeng” G acal Arum told us he was informed that Pacquiao had decided to run for Congress and that the newspaper photos and reports quoting Pacquiao as asking for support for the Party List group Pwersa ng Bayaning Atleta were supposedly misleading. The impression that he would vie for a seat as a representatve of the PBA party list group were reportedly incorrect.
Pacquiao’s longtime friend and sometime confidant Rex “Wakee” Salud told us that Pacquiao would run in Sarangani and that there is a good chance he would run unopposed, banking on an apparent effort by President Arroyo to appeal to the well-established Chiongbian family to withdraw from the congressional race.
Salud said he was 99 percent sure that Pacquiao would run and win, no matter what.
Given this scenario Arum told www.insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports “what’s there to talk about” when asked for an update on his talks with Schaefer on a Mayweather fight.
Arum said “if worse comes to worse we’ll go back to the original plan for a March 13 fight” in which the new Dallas Cowboys billion dollar stadium is the likely venue.
He said Pacquiao “will fight somebody else” although no names were mentioned and Mayweather may go to England and fight Matthew Hatton, the brother of former IBO light welterweight champion RBicky “The Hitman” Hatton which has been mentioned as a possibility and the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight will happen at the end of the year.
Arum said “anyway, let’s see what happens” after the deadline for Manny to file his Certificate of Candidacy.
HAHAHAHAHAHA Mayweather fighting Matthew Hatton what a fucking joke.

Re: Some news on the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight
Mayweather will fight either Pacquiao or the Mosley-Berto winner next. This Matthew Hatton thing is bizarre, there's plenty of more popular fighters he could beat up for better money.
I still think this fight gets made even if they bring it forward to sometime in March or April. No way are either of them going to risk a $50m pay day for this.

Re: Some news on the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight
Is this another attempt to make PBF look bad via rumor? Going by the article the only thing stopping this fight is Pacquiao's decision.

Re: Some news on the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight
Rather than Pac-yuri, I prefer Pac to fight Corey Spinks at 154. Both are feather fisted anyway. Spinks is a good tune up for PBF coz he's Black & Slick. Yuri is also a Slick style but I prefer a Black one so we can Silence Nate Campbell.

Re: Some news on the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight
What excuse would Mayweather have for not taking a fight with Pacquiao in March? That would be at least 4 months away and 6 months from his fight with Marquez. If Mayweather looks bad, it would be his own doing and not the doing of a rumor about when a fight is scheduled. Certainly he doesn't have a hair stylist schedule conflict.

Wasn't Roach in De La Hoya's corner when he fought Mayweather? They should just get this fight on rather then messing about with tune up fights and dates etc. I don't see any reason why it couldn't take place in March, i thought that was the date they were originally looking at?

Re: Some news on the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight
From Skysports:
Pacquiao-Foreman an option
Pac Man may tackle Israeli ahead of Mayweather bout
Manny Pacquiao could fight Israel's Yuri Foreman ahead of his super-fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr, trainer Freddie Roach has confirmed.
A much-anticipated fight between Filipino Pacquiao, the world's best pound-for-pound boxer, and undefeated Mayweather is on the cards after the American recently came out of retirement.
Talks between both camps are underway, but Roach has accused Mayweather's party of stalling on negotiations and is considering an earlier bout for the 'Pac Man' against WBA light-middleweight champion Foreman.
"We want to fight in March and we don't really want to wait," Roach said.
Commitment
"Mayweather doesn't want to fight in March, so we might fight for the 154lbs title in March and move up for that eighth world title.
"I'm thinking about that still and it's something that I'm kicking around in my head right now.
"Yuri Foreman might be the opponent. It is a possibility, and then Mayweather in September. If they guarantee me that, we'll do that, but I need more of a commitment from Mayweather because he's not negotiating too well.
"It has to happen, and with the money they are going to make out of it, I feel it will happen. Mayweather can't make that money with anybody else."
And while admitting Mayweather could cause a few problems against Pacquiao, Roach revealed he has a game-plan in place for the Michigan fighter.
Roach also believes Pacquiao's attacking qualities will prove too much for Mayweather.
Great fighter
"Offence wins fights. He (Mayweather) has a great defence, you don't score points with defence," Roach said.
"I have a good game-plan for Mayweather. I have studied him hard and I know him pretty well.
"He's very difficult and he gives us problems but I think we can get to him. We can match his speed and our footwork is a little better than his so I think we can excel in those spots.
"Obviously it's a tough fight but I think we can get to him and break him down.
"He (Mayweather) is a great fighter and the retirement was just to make his price go up. He's just playing games. He never left the gym - he trained the whole time. He's not going to retire for a long time."

WTF? :lickish:
Sounds like you're talking about a fluffer.

So if he gets a congressional seat how much of his time will it take up?? Will he basically retire?? I'm not up on politics so im not sure what the job intales

Re: Some news on the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight
the Floyd fighting Matthew Hatton crap is gay, but it sounds more like Manny avoiding the fight more than anything with the whole elections BS

C'mon... let's leave sexual preferences out of this thread.

Re: Some news on the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight
Its so hard to believe any of this crap, we've heard over the years that Pacquiao was dodging Barrera, Marquez, ODLH, Hatton, and Cotto in negotiations, but all those fights happened. Schaeffer and Arum made it clear that until the fight is either concretely cancelled or signed that they are making an announcement.

I've started a thread not so long ago about this potential problem in Pac's schedule and nobody paid attention to it.LOL.
Pac is determined to run for a congressional seat and that will happen in May. Unless MAyweather agrees with a March bout, we will not see a Pac vs PBF showdown.
I'm really starting to hate pac's decision to join politics. He wants to be a lawmaker but he doesn't even know how to make a law.
He's a joke in Philippine politics and I hope he loses in the coming election.
I just can't understand why he wants to be a lawmaker when he can't even understand plain English.I don't know what he will be doing in Congress and I don't know why he's interested in becoming a crook. All politicians in the Philippines are corrupt in one way or another.
I'm so MADDDD with Pac and I don't know what I will do to him if I see him in Congress seating like a dumb orangutan.
Maybe I could punch him in the face and hope he will not retaliate;D;D;D. And then I will say " this punch is for all the boxing fans in the world". Whew, I'm so mad.
I'm thinking of destroying his reputation in all boxing forum and I hope somebody here prevents me.:-X

exactly. I dont know how anybody could get "Mayweather is avoiding" from this article.
The fight was always slated for May. The March date would make 0 sense. Only a 3 month build up for the biggest fight of the decade? No way!
If Pacquiao doesn't want to fight in May, can we finally say he's avoiding the fight?
Because such a huge fight in such a small amount of time makes no sense and is a foolish business move.

I agree with you on this. I was thinking the same about a March date. That would be a not so good business move. The highest anticipated fight in boxing history would need more than a couple of months to maximize the whole pile of money waiting.

Yuri Foreman, why not? He has a 154 pound belt a high risk fight worth taking for PAC who at this point in his career should be staying at junior welter to begin with. The guy is undefeated and fought his whole career at 154 pounds and has just beaten Daniel Santos who is a good 154 champion who beat Margarito twice!!!
Now on the other hand Matthew Hatton:-\
Now you guys decide;)

You're joking right? Both of these guys are low risk. Pac or PBF would have to fight these guys back to back. The only way I would buy the PPV. This is severe cherry picking. One is for the easy money and the other is for an easy belt. I hope this is just posturing.

Santos beat Margarito once, the other fight was a NC, and i was at the fight (it was in Bayamon), and most of us there had Margarito ahead before the decision (cause of the cut), and seriously Santos looked like crap last time out, he seemed to pull a Hatton and only train to lose the weight, Foreman has no power and the way Santos was rocked (he has a solid chin by the way) you'd think it was Cintron (he's a whiny bitch but has above average power) hitting him, i agree with blegit, this is cherry picking at it's best, why the hell would you fight Matthew Hatton of all UK fighters? i mean he already whooped the Hatton that was worth anything, wtf would beating his shitty little brother prove? and Pac moving up to 154 just basically casts a shadow on Manny's accomplishment's, he was "too small" to fight Cotto at the full welter weight limit but he can go up to 154 to fight for a title? that's bullshit, anyone can win titles in multiple divisions if you pick the weakest guy and well basically zap other good fighters when calling for catchweights, if anything this should basically play in Mayweather's favor in negotiations, if Pacquiao is willing to fight at Jr. Middleweight, Floyd should be entitled to fight him at the maximum of the welterweight limit, but back to the main topic, the drama involved in making this fight is starting to sound like Wlad/Haye all over again, just let me know when the fight is made

Re: Some news on the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight
Believe it or Not!
My guess is that it's true. Mayweather loves money! But then again, when has Pacquiao ever taken the first spin of the wheel after De la Hoya. I hope the 'Jackal' (Pacquiao's Lawyer) doesn't show is ugly face again. So the drama can be done with and the fight made.
Mayweather-Pacquiao fight nearly finalized - Boxing - Yahoo! Sports
The much-anticipated bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao is all but set for March 13, a source told Yahoo! Sports.
Mayweather has agreed to terms and promoter Bob Arum is making a trip to Manila, Philippines, to finalize a deal with Pacquiao, the source said.
More From Kevin Iole
Las Vegas, Dallas and New Orleans are the front-runners to host the bout, which is expected to become the highest-grossing boxing match in the sport’s history.
Pacquiao is the top pound-for-pound fighter in nearly every major ranking, including Yahoo! Sports. Mayweather is No. 2 in most rankings and was No. 1 in nearly all of the polls before he briefly retired in June 2008.
Pacquiao is coming off a 12th-round stoppage of Miguel Cotto on Nov. 14 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, a bout in which he won the World Boxing Organization welterweight championship and erased fears that he is not a legitimate welterweight.
Cotto was a legitimate welterweight in his prime and Pacquiao dominated, knocking him down twice and cruising to the one-sided victory.
Mayweather routed Juan Manuel Marquez, who had previously been ranked No. 2 in the Yahoo! Sports poll, in a Sept. 19 fight at the MGM Grand.
The public demand for the fight has been enormous, putting pressure on Arum and Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, who represents Mayweather, to get a deal done.
Promoters had targeted May 1 for the fight almost from the moment that Pacquiao stopped Cotto. But Pacquiao filed Tuesday to run for Congress in the Philippines and the election will be held on May 10.
Given that, the bout with Mayweather had to be moved up to March 13 or pushed back until September.
Though there were reports that Arum was considering matching Pacquiao with new WBO super welterweight champion Yuri Foreman on March 13 in Dallas, that was a diversionary move and was never serious, the source said.
A survey team from Top Rank will inspect Dallas Cowboys Stadium as a possible venue. The MGM Grand Garden Arena and the New Orleans Superdome are also in the running to host the mega-fight, the source said.

Why would you even consider politics WHILE you are an active boxer?
PBF and PAC are really going for that p4p diva title.
Of course Foreman, he is the 154 lb equivalent of Malignaggi in the power department, pretty low risk really.
Matthew Hatton, I mean what's the point at all? No belt, no fan base, no unique stylings nothing.
