So Shannon Briggs is back....again
OK as irate as Shannon Briggs makes me, I am happy he's back, I'm happy he keeps calling out Klitschko. I assume he means Wladimir because #1 that's who he started calling out YEARS ago and #2 Briggs isn't smart but he knows better than to pick on Vitali.
Briggs has drawn hatred from me because he claims he's the best heavyweight ever because he's fought with asthma and is the only champion to ever do that (in reality the only fighter who complains nonstop about his asthma), and Briggs claims he beat Foreman (he didn't) and that he will get a 1st round KO over Klitschko (which he may be involved in but he won't be the winner).
So I ask you, where does Shannon Briggs go from here? Does he get his shot vs Wlad? Does he make good on the promise to KO Sam Peter? Does he take out a young contender like Boytsov or Povetkin? Or does Briggs get taken out by someone?

Re: So Shannon Briggs is back....again
He and Peter is a logical fight at this point, you'd think it would at least be watchable. As long as Shannon Briggs weighs upwards of 250 there is a good number of Heavy's he should realistically avoid if he's actually looking to do anything besides get paid.

Re: So Shannon Briggs is back....again
Tua should be available. Any of wlads recent conquests would be OK.
-
Re: So Shannon Briggs is back....again
A puncher like Briggs always has options. I think him and Peter or Tua would be explosive for a few rounds. I would give him a shot at Vlad but Vitali would bust him up and take his shots well. Or he can go after Valuev and line up a shot at Haye.

The valuev/haye path surely involves Ruiz as well

Lol I forgot he comes with the WBA like a bad rash . Well I would say that would be an interesting fight as well. Maybe Briggs can do what no one has done since Tua and put Ruiz to sleep.

Re: So Shannon Briggs is back....again
briggs deserves a shot @ any of the title holders, cos if he dont who else is there really?
-
Re: So Shannon Briggs is back....again
Ruiz would kick Brigg's rather fat butt. Ruiz stays in shape.; Briggs is a fat hulk with no movement whatsoever except against a corpse like the guy he beat last night.
-
Re: So Shannon Briggs is back....again
what a mess heavys are in we actually talking abt ruiz v briggs now:(
-
Re: So Shannon Briggs is back....again
Well, he should fight a lesser profile opponent first, proves he still has something and then we can start to think about some of the big men. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind seeing him having a shot at my boy Thomasz Adamek to see if the Polish has what it takes to sustain the big shots from the big men and to see at the same time if Briggs can survive some gritty and gutsy warriors.
-
Re: So Shannon Briggs is back....again
I like Shannon Briggs but I can't help but feel his glory days are behind him and he has a long ladder in front of him, if he makes it to the top ten without dropping to his fight weight I'll be surprised.
-
Re: So Shannon Briggs is back....again
Briggs has been an underacheiver in his career, maybe due to the asthma....He is a nice guy but if he gets in the ring with either Klitschko he will get brutally KO'd......I think Arreola would ko Shannon.,...Shannon should look into a career as a broadcaster for boxing, he had done a pretty good job calling fights in the past.

Re: So Shannon Briggs is back....again
The ONLY reason I am happy Briggs is back is so that I can see this again

Re: So Shannon Briggs is back....again
But after seeing something like that I am sure Shannon would still feel obligated to lecture us all on how great he still is on account of the fact he has asthma :vd:
He's boxing's version of Tito Ortiz...don't take my word for it, compare them
Shannon

Tito

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
Sounds like someone needs to call the WAAAAAAAHmbulance! "Mike Tyson never had asthma, Muhammad Ali never had asthma, Larry Holmes never had asthma, I had to fight through that and my opponent".....really? I mean REALLY? That is some sad shit to ALWAYS have an excuse handy and never back away from using it....at least Tito is inventive enough to use a different excuse every time, but still.....where's your pride people?

Re: So Shannon Briggs is back....again
Wow Lyle you do hate Briggs lol. Your not alone though, I can't stand him and haven't been able to since his gift vs Big George. I hope he gets either Wlad or Tua next because I only see one outcome should they meet, quick and brutal KO.

Re: So Shannon Briggs is back....again
Yes I despise Shannon Briggs he has/had talent IMO he knocked Lennox Lewis down although he was CLEARLY outclassed over the course of the fight, but the guy ALWAYS has an excuse ready which tells me as a fighter that because he has an excuse ready he comes to the ring prepared to lose.
Shannon Briggs although he comes to the ring prepared to lose it doesn't stop him from talking crap and in case you have missed my entire era of posting here then maybe you haven't read that I dislike people talking more talk than walking the walk, I don't like bums talking like they are all time greats and for Briggs to say Ali, Tyson, Holmes didn't have to deal with asthma and somehow that makes Briggs great...he may as well have said "I'm the first heavyweight champ with orange dreadlocks and that makes me better than anyone else".
I also hate Cris Arreola now, he is wasting any talent he has by being a lazy bastard.

Yeah agreed on Arreola, I think he is fighting 30 lbs over the weight he should be and if he really trained and dieted as a pro boxer at the top level should, he would have a chance of making real noise in the HW division.

Re: So Shannon Briggs is back....again
I was wondering, since Oleg Maskaev got smashed out in 1 round and the fight with Ray Austin for the shot at the WBC title I wonder if Shannon Briggs is going to step in and fight Austin.
I just soooo badly want to see Shannon's fat head smashed in

Gotta admit it would be nice, but i'd rather see someone like Wlad, Vitali or Haye do it. I don't see him getting past the 6th with any and I think all would leave him a mess if he could withstand the pressure long enough to get beat up that is.

As limited as Briggs is, I'd love to see him fight Haye simply for the spoiler factor. Briggs is big, but he's a decent counterpuncher and he might pull a Sergei on him. One good tap and David would fight in a completely different manner. Probably wouldn't happen as David would stay away from that right hand. I say Briggs should try to get with Sam Peter. Briggs is much smarter and could set traps easily for Sam. Beat him, then take a rebound match against Eddie Chambers and he could easily be in the Wlad running after only 2 fights. I say the bigger the better for Briggs as he is so very limited. He's athletic, but asthmatic. I think 270lb Briggs packs a huge wallop and if he can hit Wlad flush one time it's a game changer. Wlad doesn't have Haye's movement and makes up for it with defense and wrapping up his opponent. If Briggs keeps hammering that guard he just may get something through.
What's that you say? Of course I realize I'm talking out of the side of my neck. Why do you ask?

Unfortunately, I don't give Briggs much of a chance against anyone who moves or has defense. But then again, Ray Austin got kayoed with a jab. Say what you want about Briggs, but I really think he probably has the hardest straight right in the HW division.

Re: So Shannon Briggs is back....again
It was so odd seeing him KO a guy with a body punch, but I give him some credit. He's coming to fight. I think he is giving too much info to the fans about "getting his fat ass off the couch and to get in fighting shape again." It only makes me think that between one of his fights he'll get disproportional (300+) again and blame it on the asthma...
I think he'd have more success against Adamek, Chagaev Ruiz
and less success against Haye, Chambers, Povetkin
I think a quote from Joe Dirt could sum up all is reservations about fighting with asthma "Why don't you go get yourself a Whah-burger and some french-cries!"
-
Re: So Shannon Briggs is back....again
Give him a minute and blink a few times......he'll find a way to gas out and be an opponent. He's a great commentator though.

Well YEAH, that's the idea...Shannon fights Austin wins, then fights Vitali and gets pummeled by another "asthma attack"

#1 When did Austin get KO'd by a jab?
#2 Briggs does not have the hardest right cross in the division...even with 280 pounds behind it

Only reason Brggs looks like a big puncher is that most of his early round kos come against corpses more shot that Roy Jones Jr.

Here's some good news for you Lyle......
Briggs is scheduled to fight on the season premiere of ESPN FNF. Against whom you may ask? TBA baby, the one, the only.

Am I confusing Austin for somebody else? Didn't he fight Wlad and get hit by a dozen jabs and go down?
I know it isn't quantifiable, but his right cross is definitely a game changer. Look at what Briggs did to Liakhovich who was winning handily (even though Brigg's counter hook got his attention). One pop in the 12th and Sergei was on queer street. One more and he was looking at the crowd upside down through the ropes. When it comes to a SINGLE punch, I say Briggs is up there. But a series of punches, nah.

Re: So Shannon Briggs is back....again
Briggs is a four round fighter even at his best. He completely changes after that. He goes from power punching beast to feather fisted boxer. Quite strange really, but if he can manage to get himself into decent shape he might make a four round exciting fight for either Klitschko.
He looked terrible in his last fight plodding along and I heard he lost around 80 pounds for it.
