Sergio Martinez WOW just pure class!

Freaking Great fighter, where was this guy 5 years ago? I mean he just got on hbo like a year ago against Alex Bunema...Fought like a warrior out of his mind, and emanuel steward kept going on about paul being tougher or something to that effect, it was 2 wills in there tonight neihter of whom was going to wilt, and just for the sake of both guys the fight should have been a draw. Martinez showed pure class in the post fight interview, and that 119-111 judge is a blind idiot, yet martinez just showed nothing but class and just calling it an error and letting his "posse" do the badmouthing, amazing!

Martinez is a cool guy, I like his style and he carries himself well. I though Williams did JUST enough to win, but Martinez did more than enough to warrant an immediate rematch.

It was a great fight and both fighters did themselves proud. I have been watching the UFC simultaneously so couldn't accurately score but my impression was that Williams deserved the win. I missed the first three rounds though.

Hopefully they will do it again.

The more I think back on the rounds the more I favor Martinez. His shots were snapping PWill's head back a lot more. Efficiency is frowned up when scoring a fight though.

Martinez won 2 of the first 3 rounds imo, I thought he edged the fight although I'll score it tomorrow.

I just think it sucks for martinez cause this time only one judge screwed him and not out of the fight necessarily cause case can be made for both guys, but due to bad judging and refeering he got a draw with cintron which should have been a ko win for him, yet he just keeps going and doesn't whine about it, that's what amazes me...true warrior!

Martinez is definitely my favorite fighter from Argentina fighting out of Spain.

Actually, I believe he's from Argentina, previously fighting out of Spain, currently fighting out of California. :)

I did not know who Martinez was when the fight started. Yes Ima noob thanks for reminding. but Ima fan now. Fight could have went either way it was so close and I just thought he was some fill in journeyman walkover for Pwill.

Williams should feel lucky, for he easily could have and maybe even should have lost.

He looked like the stronger puncher in this fight, I think he is a pretty damn hard puncher, but he's on his toes so much it kinda softens his shots.

Martinez hit Cintron so hard he thought it was a headbutt. ;D

both should be proud of what they did last night, it was a great fight, i had Martinez winning 115-113, but could easily see it a draw or 115-113 Williams, loved how both said nothing but positive things of their opponent (especially Martinez, due to the retarded scorecard), and how both were willing for a rematch right there on the spot, also Williams seemed so humble acknowledging how tough a fighter Martinez was basically made me a full fledged fan of his, we need more guys like these, who fight this hard even when any title is on the line, imagine what a war it would have been if it was for a strap ;D:o

I had the fight as a draw...GREAT match, I figured it would not be as great of a style matchup but it was a great fight and BOTH of those fighters would have beaten Kelly Pavlik.

Had the pleasure of watching Martinez in my home town a few years ago bashing up Adrian Stone, tiny little sports center that I used to play badminton in ;D He did a bit of a tour of the UK a few years ago much like Winky did when no one wanted to fight him, taking on the best we had to offer, Stone, Paul 'The Secret' Williams and suitibly bashed them up.

Not sure why more people dont know about him but he's a class fighter alright.

I had him ahead 3 points, but on the same token, there were quite a few close rounds. Great fight. The 119 score for anyone was BS, though. Terrible judging in that case. This should've went down as a draw. Sergio fights very well and for a good cause, he has earned a new fan in me. It's a pitty he's had quite a career of hardship

The fight was fought at 160, which is not Martinez's natural weight class, and the fight was staged in the United States against a fighter many people in the boxing community don't want to see lose. When all was said and done, Martinez exposed Paul Williams. Paul isn't the most feared fighter on the planet anymore, that's certain now. Martinez looked more athletic and a better boxer than Pwill. I like Martinez's chances over anyone between 147 and 160.

I agree: Paul Williams natural advantage is his pure size if he isnt that tall and rangy he is nothing special. Now I think Kelly Pavlik destroys him:)

Martinez also has the best hair in boxing, hands down. ;D

Hey Sum,

It wasn't just people that thought he was a bad match up for Floyd, it was Floyd himself. Listen to the interview with RA the Rugged Man and Floyd admits Paul would be too big for him.

I'm not certain Sergio exposed Paul; rather, the situation was much like Ward in the aftermath of the Ward/Kessler fight, where maybe Sergio, in that case Ward, had been overlooked for a long time, and even in defeat (or alleged victory) Williams and Kessler remain classy boxers.
