Dibella refuses to promote Taylor, says his health is at risk...
“I informed him, as I do all my contracted fighters, that my goal was to help his secure financial stability for his family, maximize his potential, and leave our unforgiving sport with his health intact.
It is my belief that the continuation of Jermain’s career as an active fighter places him at unnecessary risk. While he is undoubtedly capable of prevailing in future bouts, I cannot, in conscience, remain involved given my assessment of such risk." - Lou Dibella
Very interesting.

This is very good news. I am glad to hear it. So where does this leave the tourney? Lucian Bute or Sakio Bika would be a nice replacement.
Taylor get's knocked out by the smallest guy in the tourney is not a good sign. Have to give Taylor credit for his heart though but his health is much more important and let's hope he understands this.

well done diabella. the man has just gone up a notch in my book. wont find many promoters saying that. not just that but taylor is still a marketable fighter with a good following, so diabella can still make money off him, but his heart is ruling his head. good stuff

Taylor is going on without him he is fighting Ward in April.

Re: Dibella refuses to promote Taylor, says his health is at risk...
My hat is off to DiBella, the guy really cares about his fighters....Shows not all promoters are money hungry trolls like many think..
First class move by Lou, especially knowing he could make another million or two off Taylor in the long run

Ward is a larger younger version of a BHOP. Taylor is not the same man he was when he faced BHOP either. This could get ugly. I don't know about the rest of you but Taylor will have his hands full for 12 whole rounds if he makes it that far. Ward might be the son of god but inside the ring he is more like the Devils stepson :o that boy don't play nice at all. Taylor beating Ward would be a major upset. I would some how like to root for Taylor but I can't. I just hope the dude don't get seriously hurt.

i agree with u on everthing mate. ward reminded me of a bhop against kessler, just with more speed and tenacity. yeah i cannot see past a ward victory in that one. taylor is still young but he been knocked out three times now, something aint right. the man must have made at least 15 mil from the sport, thats more than enough too retire on. i hope he does retire. would hate
too see him fight one too many fights and get hurt

Re: Dibella refuses to promote Taylor, says his health is at risk...
I don't blame lou.. Not to mention ward is gonna beat his ass something terrible.
-
Re: Dibella refuses to promote Taylor, says his health is at risk...
Wow I've never seen a promoter do this before.
-
Re: Dibella refuses to promote Taylor, says his health is at risk...
It's a shame for Taylor because he is pretty good, but he seems to be getting progressively worse with each knockout that accumulates. That last KO was horrible, but I think Taylor is right to continue and I hope he can put up a decent performance against Ward.

Re: Dibella refuses to promote Taylor, says his health is at risk...
Taylor has been a sad story since his first loss to Pavlik. He was extremely promising as a young man but he often cut corners, didn't train well, and just didn't seem to 'want' to be champion as much as some of the other young, hungry fighters. I think, by the time he pulled his socks up, it was too late. Still, I'll be rooting for him (even though I consider myself a Ward fan too), I'd like to see the gifted, athletic, young fighter we all caught glimpses of in the past.

Re: Dibella refuses to promote Taylor, says his health is at risk...
Not usually a fan of Dibella but much respect here.Have come to like Taylor...almost feel for him...dude has been wrecked last couple and has all the looks of a fighter on the verge of serious injury. His heart and desire intact but physically its just not there.Hope he gets out for good.

Re: Dibella refuses to promote Taylor, says his health is at risk...
Good move by Dibella, you won't catch many promoters doing that kind of thing. I just hope Taylor has the sese to get out before he gets seriously hurt

Big respect for Dibella and his concern.
But still agree he has a right to continue, stamina was his problem in the first 2 KOs and I just feel that Abraham was stylistically all wrong for him, brutal fiunish though.
Ward is probably a big favourite, but I think Taylor has the tools to get an impact early and if he gains confidencs then who knows.
Still only 30ish so not like when most fighters go on too long, but prob if he is KOd devastatingly again might start agreeing with Lou.

Re: Dibella refuses to promote Taylor, says his health is at risk...
Oh please! I guess this has nothing to do with his Jermain not bringing in as much money these days for ole Lou. I've heard Lou speak too many times, and I'm from Arkansas so I've been to all of Jermains home fights and I've heard Lou speak on Jermain's behalf too many times! Lou is arrogant an selfish and im convinced he's more concerned about his pocket book than he is of Jermain Taylor's health!

Re: Dibella refuses to promote Taylor, says his health is at risk...
Ward doesnt have the same power as Pav, Froch or Abraham so I dont think think Taylor is in teh same danger of ebing KO'd
If Lou doesnt promote him someone else will and they will get the money

I can understand becoming cynical after being a long time boxing fan, but this way over the top, and besides is totally illogical.

Dibella has just earned some respect out of me.

Thats just crazy talk mate...A fighter of Taylors caliber can make millions for his promoter by being a stepping stone for an upcoming prospect without DiBella having to invest a dime for promotion cost making the nother promoter pay out of pocket for event cost by taking a smaller cut...Free money to be honest....
I know a lot of promoters who do that big names not just local guys..
Lou genuinly cares about his guys....
A couple of years ago I did an interview with Lou for this site and he went on for an hour on how his fighters mean more to him as a peoplke rather then business investments....
There will always be another fighter to come along and make money with, off of

Re: Dibella refuses to promote Taylor, says his health is at risk...

Well in all fairness the computer simulation that had Balboa knocking Mason out really put a hurting on Dixons marketability:-\...The fight had to take place:D

Re: Dibella refuses to promote Taylor, says his health is at risk...
Wow, a boxing promotor shows a sign of humanity, please let me be first in line, I don't want sloppy seconds :-X
Sadly, Dibella is still italian.
And he still promotes Paulie Malignaggi.
Watch one episode of the Jersey Shore. Actually don't. He could part the Red Sea and I still wouldnt be a believer.

Re: Dibella refuses to promote Taylor, says his health is at risk...
I don't think Taylor is quite as done as some like to make out, he's only been stopped by guys with serious power, but DiBella knows more than me & credit to him for doing what he feels is the right thing.
