Anyone Heard Of Paul McCloskey
Never seen him fight but i was just looking at the Jr Welterweight rankings, and see his name and see he was British. I was just wondering has he got a chance at Amir Khan or any of the title holders in the future ? the only problem is that he's a late starter and he's already 30.

Re: Anyone Heard Of Paul McCloskey
He's alright. Probably European/WBU calibre. Probably a little better but not much better than the likes of Barnes/Lynes/Rees/Mutley.

Re: Anyone Heard Of Paul McCloskey
Always surprises me how you Brit guys don't even follow Brit boxing. McCloskey's last 5 or 6 fights have been on Sky or rte/internet.
He doesn't get hit so his age is no problem.

Did you see the Lynes fight?
He made Lynes look like a complete mug. He's much better than those guys.

No it's the one fight i didn't see. I'll take your word for it. He's still not a fighter i could ever imagine being a world champion.

Re: Anyone Heard Of Paul McCloskey
I don't rate him that much he needs to step it up a bit but he will never be world level mind you if Gavin Rees can win a World title hope for anyone.
-
Re: Anyone Heard Of Paul McCloskey
Don't know how people can say that they don't rate him. He'll be a world champ. I'd have no doubt he'd beat khan. He's Irish by the way, not british.
-
Re: Anyone Heard Of Paul McCloskey
I quite like the guy man. Seen him fight a few times and he's pretty good. He's awkard and slick at the same time, great combinations and movement. Couple of downsides that I've seen are he lacks power and he also gets hit when he shouldn't.
I'd probably say he'll give anyone a run for their money and would be a certain awkward nights work even at world level. His last time out he certainly looked like he could do with some better conditioning though.

I guess we should take that British Title Belt back from him then ;)

Re: Anyone Heard Of Paul McCloskey
This is why i need sky!
The British Fight Scene is good. I watch all the ITV fights and anything i can catch on Youtube but no ive never seen McClosky fight.
-
Re: Anyone Heard Of Paul McCloskey
McClosky is decent, he is better than the likes of Kotelnik and similar standard contenders I think he takes Maidana aswell.
Fenster is correct made Lynes look like a novice not only that but on about 5 days notice, got some nice skills has a similar style to David Barnes but alot busier. I wouldnt mind him fighting Witter rather than these Italian/Spanish waitors while he waits for a world title shot.

I can only remember watching his last fight and on that evidence this sounds spot on to me.

Re: Anyone Heard Of Paul McCloskey
His last Fight was a bad day at the office. This Kid is a great Fighter. The better the opposition the better He is, a real darkhorse.

Re: Anyone Heard Of Paul McCloskey
Yeah im a big fan of McCloskey, think he'll definitley get his hands on a world title, would love to see him get a shot at Khan or Bradley.
I think he's shown good power in his last few fights, doesn't have 1 punch ko power but enough to wear guys down and take them out.
As for the British/Irish thing, :peeker: he's catholic background(most catholics in the north would consider themselves Irish as opposed to Brittish) but obviously he's not to worried about politics and was happy to fight for the British title, and who cares really...
yeah were still claiming him ;D

Re: Anyone Heard Of Paul McCloskey
Without the help of Saddoboxing I prob wouldn't have known or cared about McCloskey.
Yes, I have heard of the man. I know the names of many UK fighters thanks to the prediction contest and the numerous citizens of that country who post here.
I'm actually surprised that you have never heard of him.

I only watch British boxing on ITV and ETC, i don't pay for any channels that show other fights and ETC. And most of the time its hard to follow British boxing over here, especially when the paper is flooded with football, and hardly anything about boxing. And even on the news they only ever talk about the big fights over here.

Yeah i think in the U.S you have about 3 or 4 networks that show Boxing on a regular basis.
We have one free to watch network (ITV) and Sky Sports which basically costs you in excess of £40 to subscribe to.
The fight scene is vast but the coverage isn't.... It's funny though, i dont even recall reading to much about McClosky in the Boxing Magazines over here ???

Ha ha. Go into any bar in Dungiven and say that. see how long you last. joking aside, hes a smashing wee fighter who i have no doubt will win a world title. Lives and breathes the sport and a good head on his shoulders. Im not being funny here but if he was english the media would be giving him a lot more exposure. I remember johnny nelson almost lost for words when he saw him for the first time (think it was the british title fight) saying 'Where has this guy been?' obviously unaware he didnt turn pro til 24 or 25

Re: Anyone Heard Of Paul McCloskey

Re: Anyone Heard Of Paul McCloskey
McCloskey's last fight was a last minute notice job after M'Baye pulled out.
