Shockingly lopsided fights of 2009
Well I was surprised to see Cotto get taken out the way he did, I was surprised to see how bad Marquesz looked against Mayweather, surprised to see Margarito get knocked out....not that I thought any of them would win but I didnt think it would be so lopsided.
What fight surprised you?
Re: Shockingly lopsided fights of 2009
Ward vs Kessler
Guzman vs Funeka
Bute vs Andrade 2
Williams vs Wright
Bradley vs Peterson
Re: Shockingly lopsided fights of 2009
jmm offered no trouble at all to floyd. surprising, this was supposed to be a megafight with 1 million ppv buys?
Re: Shockingly lopsided fights of 2009
I was surprised at the ease in which Agbeko beat Vic, it was not a close fight and Vic took a beating.
Re: Shockingly lopsided fights of 2009
Pacquiao - Cotto wasn't totally one-sided until the later rounds. Cotto was actually a lot more competitive early than I thought he would be.
As for the question, Ward - Kessler is the one which really sticks out for me. Kessler was never even in the fight.
Re: Shockingly lopsided fights of 2009
The way Salgado blitzed Linares.
end of...

Same here. Losing is something but the way he did... I never saw it coming.

Pavlik - Hopkins. Thought it would be close but more then gave Pavlik a chance. Instead was a one-sided Bhop clinic in lateral movement and ring smarts. Pavlik punching straight forward at a guy who wasn't there, and getting hit like he was surrounded.

Re: Shockingly lopsided fights of 2009
These were already mentioned but the two that got me was Williams/Winky and Ward/Kessler. I was utterly shocked how easy these guys won. I wavered in picking a winner before the fight but if I was told the fight was dominated by one fighter I would've thought it was the guy who lost in each bout.

Really? I saw Ricky getting knocked out in about 5. Thought it'd take longer than 2, but Ricky doesn't perform well against guys with speed and who are southpaws. Ricky seemed to think his power would overwhelm, but I kept telling my friends who were coming down to watch it that I felt Ricky was going to take a beating.
Re: Shockingly lopsided fights of 2009
Mayweather-Marquez. Because drinking your own urine should at least have you in neck-and-neck competition.
Re: Shockingly lopsided fights of 2009
pavlik vs hopkins

Again, Pavlik Hopkins wasn't this year. I wouldn't call the other three shockers, either. As long as Arreola decides to show up looking like a tub o' lard he's going to fall short of elite. Urango is Urango. He's not very good, but he hits hard as hell and has a great chin. And Winky had been off for like a year and a half after a loss.
Re: Shockingly lopsided fights of 2009
I expected Williams - Wright to be more competitive. Williams was in control for the start to the finish.
Mosley - Margarito was a huge beatdown. Sugar was a beast that night. I never seen that coming.
Bradley - Peterson was surprisingly one sided. I expected Peterson to be able to cause Bradley problems with his counters and his outside game but he hardly touched him. Bradley controlled the fight throughout.
