Malignaggi, the fighter I hate to love
I don't want to like Paulie Malignaggi but I can't help it. The guy is such a trash talker and you can't help but watch his fights just to see what he's going to say to the crowd, how many tassles will be hanging off his trunks etc...But he's also got intangibles that I don't like very much about some fighters. The first thing is the extremely low knockout ratio. 5 knockouts in 23 plus fights and 3 of those came in his first 5 fights. I grew up in Houston and wanted Diaz to win that first fight against Paulie but he didn't deserve, no matter how you slice it. I'm glad Paulie got his second shot at him in a nuetral ring. Let me know what you think.

Re: Malignaggi, the fighter I hate to love
Hes not my favorite style of a fighter either, but throw him in with a monster that will hunt him down all night and Ill tune in. If they match him with a boxer forget it.

Re: Malignaggi, the fighter I hate to love
Agreed Salty, and those are the fights he actually did lose (diaz excluded). The fights to Cotto and Hatton. Hunted him down all night and beat the hell out of him. Not to mention he couldn't hurt them with what he was throwing.

Re: Malignaggi, the fighter I hate to love
He wants to fight Marquez, but thats probably not a good fight Marquez. Marquez needs a guy thats going to come at him if hes going to fight at 140 pounds.

I thought he gave Cotto a fucking hard nights graft.

Re: Malignaggi, the fighter I hate to love
The only difficulty cotto had the night was running him down in spots. I think Paulie broke his left hand punching Cotto that night. Cotto was still breathing through his nose at the end of the night

Re: Malignaggi, the fighter I hate to love
That's the whole point bruce. He's an ass but I'm still not going to miss one of his fights.

Re: Malignaggi, the fighter I hate to love
I recognize him for the talent he is and despite being a fan of Diaz I was glad to see him get the win in the rematch. I won't go out of my way to see him, but if I sit on the remote and just so happens to turn the channel to his boxing match I might watch.

Re: Malignaggi, the fighter I hate to love
Paulie is a fighter going no where.

In terms of winning a title , he is a weak puncher and has to trash talk because he has nothing else to offer.

Paulie had him wobbled at least two occasions.. he also lost a fair amount of rounds to Paulie. You can say what you want about Cotto being weight drained at 140, but he hit Paulie with everything he had and Paulie still kept coming back for more.
I too am a big paulie fan.. good to see he finally got what he deserved against Diaz the first time around. I wanna see him go on to win back his title, but think he should stay well away from Marquez. I think a rematch with Hatton is also a good option, if he fights like he did against Diaz (granted Hatton is a different beast compared to Diaz) he could well outbox him and come away with the UD.

dont come that, cotto wasnt wobbled by paulie at all, i would like to see youtube videos of these occasions if they exist!
and he didnt win a fair amount of rounds did he or the scores would have been alot closer

Re: Malignaggi, the fighter I hate to love
F**K Malignaggi. I watched the Diaz fight twice and walked away both times. He is very unexciting, and just a flat out boring fighter to watch. This is a fighter that belong's on that new show Guido beach. No offense to any Italians but he would just fit in perfect with "The Situation" and "Snooki". Anyway I think the guy who punched Snooki in the face hits harder than Maliganggi. I was much more entertained with his knockout then ANY of Paulie's fights.

From boxrec
referee: Steve Smoger | judge: Don Trella 112-115 | judge: Glenn Feldman 111-116 | judge: Peter Trematerra 111-116
Counting the knockdown thats 7 rounds to 5 isnt it? Bout as close as you can get without a draw

on one judges card.... the majority here had it as 8 rounds to 4, along with a KD thats a decisive victory at world title level

2:35 - at the least you can say he knocked cotto off balance.. which still takes some power to do.
there was another punch which wobbled cotto a little in the early rounds but can't find it.. :(

do his legs go ? no
does he try to cover up or clinch ? no
he is simply a bit off balance when the shot lands, cotto covers up and either clinches or backs up a bit when he is wobbled... funny he did none of that here
i like paulie but dont make him out to be something he isnt

Re: Malignaggi, the fighter I hate to love
I'm not making paulie out to be a world beater or saying he should of won.. all i'm saying is he give cotto a damn tough fight.
