Why is Miguel Cotto moving up?
There's all this talk of him moving up to 154. I don't see why. I don't think that he'd do well at 154 at all. Is he having trouble making 147? Does anyone that follows Cotto or PR boxing know why? He looked like a monster at 147 when he first moved up but once he settled in against the top of the division it looked like he didn't have the same power to the body. Does he blow up in weight while not training? Does anyone know?

simple, to win another title before he calls it a career, 2010 is supposed to be his last year
Re: Why is Miguel Cotto moving up?
2010 cant be his last year! He is stile primed and young! But to be fair i'd have to say if he does move up he has the best chance at getting a title especially as Arum promotes Pavlik an this would be a big money fight. If Margacheato hadnt beaten him he would be fighting along time after 2010.

It's not just the Margarito thing IMO. Cotto by far and large has tried to make MOST of his fights wars, and fighters like that are exciting but fade much faster than normal. I respect him taking a few more fights and then calling it a day. He has had a brilliant career and fought the best at 147. Because of that I can understand him wanting to move up to 154.
Re: Why is Miguel Cotto moving up?
I wonder a lot more why he doesn't move on to go with a real good trainer, personally.

This is exactly what I was thinking!

pavlik fights at 160... cotto is talking about moving up to 154.... no way this fight happens
Re: Why is Miguel Cotto moving up?
I think Cotto might be a bit small for LMW. Most fighters will have a height and reach advantage over him, but whether they can use it or not is another issue. He should stay at WW and maybe fight Clottey again or maybe the winner of Berto/Mosley. Heck, even Collazo would be a great fight to make.

no way he fights clottey again, no need for it, also i dont see a mosley rematch happening, i think hell probably move up and fight yuri foreman and then call it a career
3 weight world champion, has to have made a fair bit of money and he can get out young
Re: Why is Miguel Cotto moving up?
This is great as I often said and have been saying that I would like to see him capture a 3rd title...
I think the time is now, his next fight should be at 154.
A Yuri Foreman fight is very winable IMO.
Re: Why is Miguel Cotto moving up?
How about move up and fight Paul Williams?

williams needs to fight martinez again first
Re: Why is Miguel Cotto moving up?
I'm being facetious. I doubt a Williams fight is going to happen. Especially if Cotto is thinking about hanging them up.
Re: Why is Miguel Cotto moving up?
Cotto is a great fighter, but he has taken some big hits recently. I hope he takes plenty of time and comes back at 154lb bigger, better and stronger than before. I would hate to see him start to lose to fighters no where near his class. Cotto should not return until after May/June at the earliest.

well that's what i had heard, he was supposingly gonna come back in June and fight Cintron at 154 in Yankee Stadium on the eve of the Puerto Rican day parade, i can't stand Cintron, but you know the atmosphere for that fight would be insane

I hope Cotto makes Cintron cry. Cintron is going to be a heavy underdog with the books, but he definitely should not be overlooked. Could be a very good match-up.
Re: Why is Miguel Cotto moving up?
154 is a division with far less depth then 147... Yuri Foreman would be a perfect fight... He has as much pop as my parents cat.
Re: Why is Miguel Cotto moving up?
to get a another titile, he knows hes not gona be able to do more at that weight class, moving up is the best thing he can do ryte now, and i hope he does cause everybody knows hes not gona be able to beat pac or pbf if he beats pac for the title. at 154 he has a better chance of getting another title and prob dominating that division. he still has alot of gas in the tank

he could make a huge comeback if he beats the winner of Mosley/Berto, there is still a marketable fight against Collazo, a rematch with Clottey, so he still has plenty of options at 147, only reason i see him going up to 154 is to try and get another title seeing how he plans to call it a day soon, but i doubt he'll be able to dominate the division, IMO Williams and Martinez would probably beat him, but i could see him getting good wins over Cintron, Foreman, and probably someone like Julio, but don't really think he'd be able to dominate

LMAO!!! That was my first thought when I heard Cintron calling Miguel out.
As much as I would like to see Miguel make Cintron cry, I would rather have Miguel go for a title fight in a 3rd weight division before he hangs them up, so I hope he gets the Foreman fight.
I'm still sooooooooooooo depressed about Miguel hanging them up so soon. :bawling:
Seriously.

I hope they have a stretcher for foreman...........:boxing2:

Yeh, his options right now aren't looking to good:
-Fight a heavier, stronger Cotto.
-Fight (a possibly) roided-up Pacquaio at some ridiculous catch-weight with other skewed terms.
I'm not sure if I'd like to see Cotto fight Cintron at this point in his career. While I think Cotto could come out with a win, the risk/reward ratio isn't great. Cintron is a dangerous fighter without an enormous fanbase. Foreman would definitely be the easier fight.
