Has Pacquiao's Reputation been Damaged Forever?

I would say yes that Pacquiao's public image has been severely damaged. But only in the Western world, as in the US, Canada, UK, it more than likely has been irreparable harm to his image and that people think he's on something.

For the other side of the world as in the East, I don't think so. I went on vacation to Japan and Hong Kong a few weeks ago when this whole random blood fiasco was begining to be on full steam (I would post here now and then on vacation and check on boxing news). Although the Chinese and Japanese are different than Filipinos, they did respect Pacquiao a lot because he is Asian and considered to be 1 of the greatest fighters of all time. Boxing is somewhat starting to have a good outlook in CHina because a few of their athletes won Olympic gold in boxing, and boxing in Japan has always been massively popular.

Pacquiao is a massive international star and he is well known over there. A few of those people that I talked to feels that the West couldn't handle that an Asian fighter is on top of the boxing world, an machismo sport that is physically grueling, since there hasn't been 1 Asian fighter to reach these sort of heights. I should mention that they did know about stereotypes and view of them with regards to physicality/athletics. When I was in HK, I was surprised that a few Chinese that I talked to did defend when it was suspected that Pacman was accused of PED usage. They felt it was like when the west was accusing CHina of cheating in the Olympics because they have won the most gold medals.

I'm just trying to give a different view point of the situation that people has on the blood testing. In the west more than likely Pacs reputation is in tatters, in the east not so. Different people from different parts of the world will see it differently. I'm pretty sure the FLips and Asians don't see the damage in his reputation. Just my 2 cents.

I think if he takes the random tests, and still performs as well as he ever did then his reputation will damaged minimally. The trouble now is that if he akes the tests and looks lethargic and weak ppl will say its cos he wasnt on drugs and all along its been those making him look good. On the otherhand if he refuses the random tests and looks great or wins people will think it was all cos of drugs.

The only way to salvage his rep now is to pass the random tests and fight really well.

Yes it has, he will now not only take away the biggest payday of his life, he also takes away one of the biggest fights from us, the fan's.

Depends on how things go from here. If he agrees to the tests then gets in the ring and sparks Mayweather he'll be bigger than ever and this'll all be forgotten about. If he gets schooled by Mayweather and doesn't look so hot in further fights he'll be boxing's Barry Bonds.

I don't think it's irreparably damaged, but it could be. If he takes the tests and is found clean, it's going to be Mayweather who comes out looking worse in this scenario. However, if Pacquiao continues to behave suspicious and continues to refuse the testing, then I don't see how it won't follow him around for the rest of his career.

Agreed... but that's assuming he agrees to random blood tests, which I don't think he will. If he doesn't, his reputation deserves to be tarnished. There are too many suspicious occurrences in his career to simply sweep the drug allegations under the rug, if he wants to go down as a great fighter, he'll need to take the tests and perform as he normally does. Even if he loses, he would need to do so with a great show of will and athleticism, traits that a great fighter should be able to display (even in a loss), at the very least.

i for one thinks his reputation has been severely damaged not only in the u.s. but also abroad. i don't know if his rep has taken a hit in the philippines but i assure you that if he refuses to take this blood test, filipinos will also turn against him as well. by and large, filipinos are honest people and are good sports. like everybody else, they expect all athletes to compete at a level playing field. sure the pachaks are going to suffer but the average filipino will treat him like anybody else who cheats. and one more thing, not only will pacquiao's reputation and honor be severely affected in the philippines, but his aspiring political career will be gone because filipinos absolutely despise lying politicians and will think pacquiao will be one of those corrupt politicians!

Without doubt. Pac made himself look guilty.. even if he's not.

Pac (Team Pac) could have called Team Mayweather's bluff by declaring they'd accept any drug test anywhere anytime. This would have never been a big deal. Team Mayweather would have looked silly, looked like they didn't want the fight, instead of Pac looking like he doesn't want to be caught cheating.

Whether he's clean or not there will always be people saying he's a drug cheat. And he only has himself (his team) to blame.

I think as i said before it has got to a point where unless Pac takes the tests and performs as good or better then the past then his reputation will be tarnished forever

I remember reading an article about the random blood testing that Floyd wants and how Pacquiao should have countered. The article was stating that Pac's team should have been smarter than that and instead of refusing they should accept it, then make another demand that the weigh in should be on fight night within 1 hour of the fight.

The author of the article was basically stating that Pac's team should have came up with something savvy like that. But instead they lost this chess match battle. I thought an scenario like that was brilliant to counter the random blood testing.

No one seems to be slagging off Roach as much as I thought, which I think is crazy, we all know how involved he is with Manny and he knows 100% the truth of all of this too.

This will die off as part of the hype long as he takes and passes the tests. After this fight happens and it will, no one will really even care about this stuff. It's the conditioning guy who'll get all the blame if it ever emerges that Manny is juicing. He's even publicly said that Manny doesn't know what he gives him, so Manny can claim he had nothing to do with it if it does ever become public knowledge. That's exactly how a few of the baseball cheats tried to get out of it when they got caught. "I thought he was injecting me in the arse with Vitamin B12", that sort of thing.

i think its damaged forever. regardless if he takes a test and passes it people will still question him. maybe he paid off whoever tested him so hed come out clean. when somebody accuses you of anything, whatever you do, it will never disappear. look at iraq. bush and the rest of the western world said its confirmed there is WMD in iraq.. well you know the rest is history.

Right, which against Mayweather may be impossible. Thus, it is more than likely that his reputation is damaged forever.

I mean I guess if he fought Mosley at 147 and destroyed him in his next fight, his reputation may be bumped up a bit.

I'm no longer a Manny Pacquiao fan. I'm not going to watch any of his fights ever again. I'm no longer a fan of contemporary boxing. I'm Going to watch the Ali-Frazier 2 DVD I just bought and KO my sparring partner on Monday.
