The difference between now and when I signed up on Saddoboxing.

I was thinking about this today, we seem to get new members on a pretty regular basis, many don't post, some spam one post and go on their way. Some on transplants signing on here to further enforce a specific view etc. etc. and some will become long term contributing members.

I remember when I first signed up here, I was blown away with the welcome I got. Wacko was really the spearhead in that action. It really made me feel like my opinions and views were worth something. I haven't really seen that lately. I am going to make an effort and encourage the rest of you to do the same to be more accommadating to our new bretheren.

I realize it's tough to do sometimes when someone comes on here posting the about how horrible this place and how filled with losers and calling people "complete pricks"

Totally agree, some of the most solid members are hardly around anymore it's a shame. It has gone way to quiet for months now.

Good call its a big part of it for sure, but we do lose allot naturally as the place evolves, people do too.
Alot of people cant bear to read the same thing twice ,others like to argue their point until its just that, an ongoing argument.Thats when some other people leave because they couldnt be fukked skimming through the ongoing rehashed crap to find something new and thoughtful.
Its a hard call pleasing everyone, Saddo has done well splitting the posts on the main board.I've looked into the Manny /Mayweather section twice,
that is what puts other people off ,what is going on in there.

I don't even feel like I can talk aboing sometimes any more... Killer posted a thread a few days back 'defining boxing moments in photograph' the board was full of posts like that... it still is but the problem is now there is a lot of bickering and rubbish threads to get through... back in the day there was loads of talk about contemporary and vintage boxing.

Now and find myself argueing with morons and posting very infrequently in ask the trainer.

The fact that saddo had to make a seperate forum for pac/manny says about the frequency of idiot that we sometimes have and the fact that after trying to be objective within that board I've just gave up trying says the rest.

I sort of agree with you Greg, I also found the site very welcoming when I joined up years ago, one of the reasons I stuck around. There's a good core of posters here, almost all much more knowledgable than me, but I think that we have to have a board like this does indicate that either a) we have rose-tinted sunglasses about what it was like years ago, politicians were good people and summers went on forever, and we just ignored more of the bad stuff; or b) the popularity of the forum will attract more people with agendas and those who are completely obsessive about the guy they support, and can't believe that their opinion is fact, whilst all others are invalid.

Oh i remember when i first joined, I was only 15 when i joined back in 2004. Back when wackos drunken round by rounds were only just getting started back when he was michael_3205, when steelie, missy, rick rack, memphis and andre,brad ruled the boards and saddo only had to step in occasionally.

Now steelie is MIA (assumed to be locked in saddos basement and loving it), Missy has lost all of her mystique and confirmed that she is a horny littly minx ;), rick rack...yeah what happened to that guy, possibly banned, memphis is probably working and managing his family and andre is the boards spiritual guide and brad is probably just chilling out and hangin with his family.

It has been a good 5 and a bit yrs thats for sure, do miss some of the older poster like taansend, brad, wacko,steelie (not in that way ya poof ;D),memphis, spade, wise guy. It was pretty mellow back in those days.

I always go out of my way to rep people when I think I have seen them post something good. I have even given good rep to the few Manny fans who are arguing things in a reasonable way.

I must admit that I wasn't very nice to that Mike guy and did indeed neg rep him a total of 3 times. I have never done that to anybody before, but he had no reason to call us losers in every post. And he called me a limey who was still crying over Hatton. My god, that one cut me to the bone. :p

Some of these new people could sign up and make themselves at home and some do, but some come on here with a really nasty attitude and bring up nonsense because they can't form cogent arguments.

I'm a short timer here looking at the big picture and I can say it is different from even two years ago.Then again,what isn't in life.Shit....I'm different as far as posting and time.My attention span has gone to shit and not spending nearly as much time 'around' as I had,which is actually a good thing because key aspects can slip away.We ebb and flow and alot of guys have gone ...just out of the blue.Some return and some do not.I do think it important to note the whole new member intro aspect......to have a long term vet comment or note your beginning efforts means alot.Not going feg on you but it did to me.Was a Gamo,Daxx,Mick,JT,Andre among many others and VD as the resident ball breaker but all long termers and that went a long way.Respect.I followed this sport in virtual solitude before getting with the times,getting on line and finding this place.It seemed as if the 1st year alone was spent rambling about many many years of dusty storage space in my brain haha.Finally a community where one could off load.Knew from day one that the depth was different here...susstanative,more thought out & not some grab azz school yard gaggle of goofs seeing who could piss their names in the snow first....though we do have our days ;D

If someone had the money and inclination we could get an independent person who is familiar with boxing to survey several days posts from 3-5 years ago and compare them with the posts of today, taking into account the relative popularity of the sport and the matchups then existing.

It's still the best place to talk boxing, though. I learn more from reading what you guys have to say than any other source - who's coming up that is worth keeping an eye on, lots of behind the scenes news, etc. Plus it's great to see the intelligent debates on here. You might have to wade through a few (thousand) posts of name calling to get to it, but it's always worth it.

I often quote that headline but not many remember it - was an all time classic but I can't get hold of the image of the front page (was going to get a tshirt done ;))
