It's a little off the beaten track, but how about Marquez - Pacquiao I? To recover from 3 first round knockdowns and come back to make it a competitive fight is pretty impressive.

Sithchatchawal vs. Monshipour - life changing fight for both guys they left everything in the ring and then some, both had great heart. At the point where this video starts I don't know how they even had the energy to throw punches anymore.

To see 2 fighters showing great displays of heart look up the Andries v Harding trilogy. Especially the first fight where Harding TKO's Andries in the 12th whilst trailing on the cards.

Thats the first that came to mind for me. I swear Williams was still trying to throw punches whilst unconcious at times. I also nominated that fight in the 'most one-sided title fight' thread.
there have been dozens of heroic stances in boxing but the most recently that i can think of is the marquez/pacquiao I fight. the fact that marquez was done three times in the first round and came back to win almost every round and beat pacquiao is phenomenal to say the least. one things for sure, this truly showed what a great warrior marquez is and showed he has more heart than pacquiao.
Argueably in the top 5 greatest display of heart:

I agree that Marquez vs Pacquiao was a great display. To do that and then be handed a draw... and next a SD loss... definitely not a credit to the sport. I still feel Marquez won both.
Also, I'll add both of Cotto's losses to the list, especially the one against the huge Mexican with cinder blocks in his hands. The amount of punishment that Miguel took was unbelievable (against one almost definite cheater and another suspected one too!). Also, his SD win against Clottey showed a lot of heart. He was hampered with one of the worst gashes I've ever seen from a headbutt in the fourth round and still came back to win it. It's a pitty that such a brave and entertaining fighter is planning to retire soon - as a result of dirty tactics.

As much as I rate Cotto's heart, I don't think you can say the Margarito fight was a great display of heart. He quit on a knee without taking a punch. Regardless of the circumstances surrounding that, it does not constitute a brave performance even if I don't blame him.Quote:

People often say Mayweather has never been in adversity, but here after his hand is broken, his corner ask him if he wants to end the fight, he says 'I can't quit'. He lost the 6th & 7th, but turned it around to win the fight solidly with effectively one hand.
Also there's got to be Rafa-Izzy III. I think it was the fight they both showed the most heart in. The amount of times both guys were stunned & yet just kept throwing was awesome.

I also think that the Katsidis-Casamayor fight is a great example of two fighters showing great heart. I'm always surprised how little credit either guy gets for these performances & for me its indicative of how little credit Casamayor seems to get from many fans & scribes when you look at his performances throughout the decade. Katsidis is what he as well, permanently brave, he's never in a bad fight.

My final ones are to the man I consider possibly the bravest fighter I've seen in my lifetime (only Corrales is really close) & yes that includes Arturo Gatti. It's someone who people tend to be dismissive of now, because of the hype surrounding his punching power, but in his two most brutal defeats you see the heart he has. I wasn't a fan before these fights, but it was in defeat that I became a firm supporter of his. I'm talking about Jeff Lacy. Say what you want about his hype, but he is heart.

Either fight serves the purpose. He could be getting battered for every second of every round, he was never going to quit. Like Paulie Malignaggi, he's a fighter whose heart often gets overlooked because of how people feel about him personally or in Lacy's case, the hype that once surrounded him.
What a fucking embarrassing job of announcing done by the HBO team in the Mayweather - Hernandez fight that Jaz posted. That's the worst I have ever heard them.
The first that came to mind was Wayne McCullough against Scott Harrison, should have been stopped but imo proved McCullough's chin was the best ever.

How about Genaro "Chicanito" Hernandez vs Azumah Nelson? Got that punch to the neck and could have call it quits and go to the scorecards. Yet, he decided to continue with the fight and won it.
although not as high profile, Sebastian Lujan for wanting to fight on while having his ear hanging off
Hagler-Hearns.
Hagler had a nasty cut in the 1st round and still didn't give a fuk and kept on coming forward and throwing bombs. The Hitman for having great heart going toe to toe with 1 of the top 3 middleweights of all time. Not to mentioned he broke his right hand and still went at it with Hagler, even when he was knocked down and still try to beat the count.
Diego Corrales - Down twice in the 10th againts Castillo. Againts a strong granite chinned champion. He was able to summon the strength to continue and win.
Evander Holyfield - Almost down in the 10th againts Bowe with spaghetti legs. Vander was able to turn the tide in the last minute. very few fighters can do that.
Gerry Penalosa - JML is Bigger, Younger and his last 3 opponents were kayoed in the 1st round. Gerry were landing a few but JML landed 3 times more. Roach stops it but gerry still wants to finish it. One of the best chin of all time.
Juan Manuel Marquez - Down 3 times and was able to salvage a draw. Big big heart.
Manny Pacquiao - Already psychologically beaten because the contract prohibits him to wear his beloved gloves againts Morales the 1st time. Got a huge cut with blood flowing above the eye from accidental headbut that was ruled "From a Punch" by afair and firm ref. Pacquiao would continue to engage and throw punches until the end.
