Dan Goosen: P.Williams ready to fight Floyd in March

Re: Dan Goosen: P.Williams ready to fight Floyd in March
As if Floyd would fight Williams when he makes more money figthing Paulie or similar less risk fighters.

Re: Dan Goosen: P.Williams ready to fight Floyd in March
Of course the point that Floyd isn't going to risk fighting Paul is perfectly valid, but more due to the innapropriately low reward that comes from fighting the guy. I don't really think Williams would have nearly as good a shot as Pacquiao did of actually beating Mayweather at 147.

Re: Dan Goosen: P.Williams ready to fight Floyd in March
I think Williams should give Martinez the rematch first and foremost, he arguably lost that fight (twas a very good close fight tho). If not, then Floyd should fight Martinez to make a point, although then again, talk about a low-reward, high-risk fight... :p

Re: Dan Goosen: P.Williams ready to fight Floyd in March
I doubt that PWill could reasonably get down to 147 in less than 2 months with his health intact. But this fight would be a bigger draw than Pac/Clottey.

Re: Dan Goosen: P.Williams ready to fight Floyd in March
I just watched Williams Martinez again last night and definetly did feel Sergio edged it, great great fight though, a rematch between these two should definetly come before any other fights involving them. On a side note, I am now very hard pressed to root for Paul Williams after having heard him speak for the first time in the post fight interview. He's one of those guys who you get offended just listening to in any context; a complete meatskull, and not in a remotely endearing way like many athletes are.

That's typically how I feel after listening to Floyd Mayweather. I've always felt that Paul Williams comes across quite well in the interviews I have seen. He's always pretty positive, doesn't trash talk his way around the microphone. Just a laid back and likeable kind of guy. Which post fight interview are you referring too?

Re: Dan Goosen: P.Williams ready to fight Floyd in March
I would like to see Mayweather against Williams, but I have a hard time seeing Floyd want to face a freak like that. Even now, I think Paul Williams can beat Mayweather. Martinez gave Williams a tough fight, but he's damn good too these days. I really see Williams just being too busy for Floyd. Mayweather can't hurt him and Williams will just keep on pulling the windmill move on him. It's not always effective punching, but it will win rounds.

Re: Dan Goosen: P.Williams ready to fight Floyd in March
Can't see this fight happening, but what a statement for Mayweather to make if he did choose Williams! If Floyd wants any respect at all he needs a worthy opponent. My personal choice is Bradley, as I can see Williams getting down to 147 again & being effective...

I may be alone , but i actually think Paul Williams would outpoint Mayweather if they fought. He handled the very defensive Winky Wright with ease , i think he is to busy and to big for Floyd.

Exactly what I think, add to it a disproportion range, a southpaw stance and a stamina that just doesn't fade, he has the perfect toolkit to potentially upset Floyd.

Re: Dan Goosen: P.Williams ready to fight Floyd in March
Does anybody realistically think Floyd would ever fight Paul Williams? Yes, Floyd's fought at 154 before and Paul Williams is very comfortable at 154, but when was the last time Floyd took a risky fight when there were low risk fights out there if the money wasn't astronomical?

Re: Dan Goosen: P.Williams ready to fight Floyd in March
Floyd vs Williams makes for an exciting match... but Williams is huge, too huge, and a southpaw. Those wingspan* 82 inch reach, is quite bothersome for anyone, bar none, even for an excellent fighter like PBF! *(IMO should be illegal at welterweight, LOL).

Floyd would entertain the idea but he would find a way to either price himself out or make the negotiations drag on so long Williams camp would move on

While Winky is no where near the top of his game you are right Williams handled him with ease....
I agree with the rest of the statement as well...Williams just too busy and big for Floyd...If Floyd laid on the ropes and tried to counter as he likes to all Williams would really have to do is fight tall and keep out of range whiole getting shots off...
The only thing I question is would Williams execute the plan properly....He has the habit of falling into his opponents game....Giving up his height at time one of his best weapons aside from his workrate

Re: Dan Goosen: P.Williams ready to fight Floyd in March
People are going on about Williams' stamina, but this has only really been above 147. At Welter he was routinely struggling to make weight & was tiring badly in the second half of fights with Margarito & Quintana. People are talking about Winky, but that was a Winky who hadn't fought in close on 2 years. I think the Martinez fight is a better indicator of how it would go, but with Williams unable to pull out some good later rounds & not having the benefit of being the house fighter.
I wouldn't be surprised to see this fight at 147.

Floyd will not fight anyone this dangerous.

No it won't, and that's quite sad as it would be a cool and solid fight to see actually.

for a guy that faded, he was still throwing more than 1000 punches a fight, not too bad indeed ;)

Watch those fights. He starts throwing wildly & tires badly, particularly against Quintana. He has got great output, but I suspect he needs a stationary target to really make the most of it.

I agree with you. Williams wins this fight. But Floyd will bitch up on this fight. He'll run faster from Williams than he did from Margarito.
