Schaefer: Mosley-Floyd in the Works
Since the fight with Berto is off, Richard Schaefer is talking about trying to set up a fight with the 2.
Mayweather vs Mosley Clash in The Works, Says Schaefer - Boxing News
-
Re: Schaefer: Mosley-Floyd in the Works
Ha - once Schaefer gets Floyd to stop shitting himself he might try and make the fight.
I just can't wait to hear Floyd ask Shane for random testing. Shane's response will be very, very interesting...
This is starting to resemble a nightmare scenario for Floyd - fight anyone but Shane and you are boxing's pound for pound biggest pussy:D
-
Re: Schaefer: Mosley-Floyd in the Works
Looks like something might have backfired! :dunce:
-
Re: Schaefer: Mosley-Floyd in the Works
all I hope is that Floyd demands the same testing from a known steroid user as he did with an unknown one

Boxing gets unexpected shot in the arm with Mayweather-Mosley - Chris Mannix - SI.com
Sometime in the next few days Golden Boy will announce a May fight between Mayweather and Shane Mosley. It's a matchup that became possible when Andre Berto, his personal life rocked by the recent earthquake in his native Haiti, withdrew from his scheduled Jan. 30 bout with Mosley. On Monday, Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer told SI.com that he planned to work around the clock to hammer out a deal, one that will likely include blood testing (Mosley says he will agree to it, and Schaefer believes it's good for the sport) and a split that will guarantee Mayweather the bigger payday. Mosley won't bicker over the details (he's been positioning himself for this fight for more than a year) and Mayweather will jump at the chance to give a look-at-me-I'm-fighting-a-top-welterweight speech in front of a bank of cameras.

Looks like he did, he is now in negotiations with Mosley and is asking the same testing he was of Manny. I don't see how anyone can discredit this move by Floyd, but I'm sure people will find a way.
-
Re: Schaefer: Mosley-Floyd in the Works
Lets wait til it's signed sealed and delivered.
-
Re: Schaefer: Mosley-Floyd in the Works
Oh wow, business wise this is a risky move for Floyd, but kudos to him for bringing it. I was hoping a March 13th fight, but hey May is still good. It looks like HBO doesn't need to choose between the two fights.
The winner of this fight should fight the winner of CLottey-Pac.
-
Re: Schaefer: Mosley-Floyd in the Works
The possibility off having Mosley/Mayweather and Marquez/ TBA in one night is exhilarating.
Imagine if the Hatton/Marquez fight came through.
-
Re: Schaefer: Mosley-Floyd in the Works
Good stuff if it happens. I suspect Mosley wouldn't want to just take a few weeks off and go right back into camp so no March.
-
Re: Schaefer: Mosley-Floyd in the Works
Its amazing how Mayweather is getting put down. People make up stuff when there is nothing bad to say anymore about Mayweather. They are negotiating I can't see how people can not honor either fighter for trying to put together the best welterweight clash.
-
Re: Schaefer: Mosley-Floyd in the Works
This is the fight I have deaming of for years. Im a bit gutted that the Berto fight is off because I think the lay off since the Margarito fight is a bit to long for Mosley.
If Mayweather steps up and takes the fight he will definetley go up in my estimations at last he maybe fighting a world class welter weight!
-
Re: Schaefer: Mosley-Floyd in the Works
Yep, Mosley at his age needed a few competetive rounds.
He could also be stale from too much training unless he takes a month off now which would still give him a 3 month training camp.
-
Re: Schaefer: Mosley-Floyd in the Works
If this fight goes through I am going to be so happy! Big IF IMO though. Both fighters need each other I think because Shane has been avodided by most people and Mayweather with all of that shit with Manny will be wanting to show the world that he is still the best fighter at 147.
-
Re: Schaefer: Mosley-Floyd in the Works
Would love this fight to come off. Kudo's to Floyd if he takes the fight against possibly the biggest and fastest man he's yet to face.
-
Re: Schaefer: Mosley-Floyd in the Works
This fight should be I hope it will be made.
No doubt this is far more interesting than Pac-Clottey fight.
-
Re: Schaefer: Mosley-Floyd in the Works
I doubt it happens, a fight between these two has been hyped up. Since 2005 and probably earlier, if it didn't happen then why would it happen now ? as much as i would love to see it because im a big fan of both fighters, i wouldn't get your hopes up.

Re: Schaefer: Mosley-Floyd in the Works
If it happens this isn't such a bad consolation prize for the fallout of the megafight between Floyd and Manny.

I disagree.
Mosley vs Floyd has been 10 years in the making. Neither man has ever been knocked out.
Pacs been stopped afew times and lost to Morales. Plus he has accusations of roids hanging over him . Now he is taking on a guy who lost to Baldimor so his rep has plummeted and the interest has gone out of that fight.
Mosley vs Floyd is the big 1. Cant wait
-
Re: Schaefer: Mosley-Floyd in the Works
honestly, as much as a pac-fan i appear to be, if this fight gets made(and i do see this happening, its a way of mayweather one-upping pac again) and doesn't contain too much drama in between camps, i'm defintely liking this fight more than pac-clottey. i take back everything i said about not wanting to see these 2 divas(pac and may) fight unless they're fighting each other. we didn't get the super super-fight we wanted to see but we got 2 big-ass fights anyway(and im watching it both). we might - nay, MUST- also get to see the winners go against each other. not bad... not bad at all...:appl::appl:

Re: Schaefer: Mosley-Floyd in the Works
So why make the announcement that the Mosley / Berto fight is Off? Why not just postpone or reschedule?
Was this not a title unification bout.... :-\?

Mate I usually agree with most things you say. But yout logic is insane, you could say Mosley was beaton by Cotto who Pac destroyed, how the hell is a 37 year old Mosley who would have been out the ring for 14 months v Floyd be bigger than p4p number 1 against p4p number 2??

Disagree unless you are saying Mosley v. Mayweather will be a more competitive fight in which, I agree.
But first, of course Mayweather v. Mosley > Pacman v. Clottey
Mosley's already tested positive for performance enhancing drugs. And Pac just been accused. Big difference. If anything that makes Mosley not as big of a fight.
Pac right now has a bigger fan base than Mosley. Mosley throughout his career has never been a big ticket seller. Pacquiao is world renown, Mosley isn't.
Pac and Mosley have both lost. How they lost doesn't really matter.
-
Re: Schaefer: Mosley-Floyd in the Works
In my opinion Mayweather vs Pacman could have been the fight of the decade, and not just because of ticket sales but because of their styles. No fight could replace it, Mayweather vs Mosley however is the next best thing, with honorable mentions to a Mayweather - Williams.

Because, Berto is out for an undetermined time.

Re: Schaefer: Mosley-Floyd in the Works
If it gets made, Shane should be allowed to act on his own till fight night. Let the two joust a little in the media and let it be like fight without money cuts and connections being publicized. Popularity contests, steroid historys, irs audits, its all fair game... but let this be a two man fight.
In other words, KEEP YOUR FCKIN MOUTH SHUT, HOPKINS!!! or run the risk of this fight getting away because some of the golden boy crew were acting like d*uches and and Mayweather walks away because he felt offended, disrespected or ganged up on. Just a word to the wise.
-
Re: Schaefer: Mosley-Floyd in the Works
I said it before, and I'll say it again. Floyd will find a way for this fight not to happen, and then blame it on Mosley.
He will not get into the ring with anyone that stands a chance at beating him. That zero on his record means more to him than anything. Yes, even money. He doesn't get that the boxing world wouldn't give a $hit if he had a loss on this record, as long as he fought the best. To him, that zero means legacy, more so than fighting the best.
I will be shocked as $hit, if this fight gets made.
-
Re: Schaefer: Mosley-Floyd in the Works
No I think the fight will happen, I think Floyd must know that the fans are getting tired of him ducking the best. I think the boxing world would find it unacceptable if he went on to fight some other shmuck he could easily handle. If the fight don't happen I for one will start boycotting his fights.

I understand that you would rather see Mayweather - Mosley, but the general public, casual, and dedicated boxing fans would all rather see see Mayweather - Pacquaio and nothing you've said provides any evidence to the contrary. Mosley just isn't as well known as Pacquiao and there's much more demand for Mayweather - Pacquiao.

Mosley not as well known as Pacquiao? Hmmm..Gotta disagree with you. I think more people would buy a Pac/Mayweather fight because its #1 vs. #2. But in terms of sheer popularity alone I'd have to say Mosley is a bigger household name than Pacquiao. Remember Mosley was the biggest name right under Oscar for a while.
I may be wrong but I know many more casual fans (people who dont follow the sport but just buy the big ppvs) knew of Mosley back in his heyday than casual fans know of Pacquiao right now (although both numbers are big). Mosley just took a hit in terms of clout, but I dont think his fame ever took a hit. People looked at him differently after loses & PEDs but they cant just forget him.
In my opinion Mosley is even a bigger household name than Mayweather. Mayweather is the bigger draw because of his stature in the sport compared to Shane's, but i'd wager that more people know the name Sugar Shane Mosley over Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather Jr.

There really is no excuse for this fight to be made now that Berto is out. It is the biggest fight at welterweight other than Pac/PBF. Nothing else compares. It would be very odd if PBF didn't make this fight happen now. It "one-ups" Pacquiao; it is the biggest money fight; and, he and Shane have been talking about it for ten years.
All that said, I'm sure Berto has a postponement clause in his contract and he'll be entitled to fight the winner, be paid to step aside, or a little bit of both as Greg Leon says in this article: BOXINGTALK
-
Re: Schaefer: Mosley-Floyd in the Works
I hope this fight happens, an excellent match, and it will be good for boxing. Will it tho... as recent history allows pessimism a bit of a hold on its fruition.
This gets made, it'll be the kind of stuff that'll make people hope that there's still logic in putting faith in the powers that be, in the sport of boxing.

Really? Because where I live, nobody who isn't a boxing fan knows who Shane Mosley is, but almost all sports fans know about Pacquiao. Shane Mosley hasn't been on any of the sports channels as long as I've been watching them, but Pacquiao's most recent fights (from De La Hoya onwards) were all heavily covered. I assume the same is true across the entire country, as we all watch the same mainstream sports coverage.

Mosley is more known where I live, because boxing was much more popular here when Mosley was the next big thing, than it is now. Pacquiao has definitely been getting his name out there, but Shane is more recognizable here.

That's very interesting, I had no idea. Maybe it's a cultural/national thing then? Boxing is not very popular in Canada outside of Montreal, so maybe it's covered a bit differently in the States? Honestly, I'm surprised to hear that. No one knows who Shane Mosley is here (though almost every sports fan knows of De La Hoya).

Yeah, the casual fans really hopped on board during the Oscar era where I lived. I remember the Oscar/Mosley fights were some of the biggest in terms of popularity. Same with Oscar/Trinidad. Oscar, Mosley, Trinidad were some of the household names at that time & thats when boxing was alot bigger than it is now. Mayweather, Pacquiao are the big names of today but boxing isn't as big as it used to be.
