Mack Ripped up and ready for war!!!

Yusaf Mack v Glen Johnson has finally been confirmed as the main event on ESPN on the 5th February in Glen Johnson's home town of Florida at the NSU Center Arena in Miami. The Super Bowl weekend fight is almost guaranteed to be a cracker, both fighters know this is there big chance to get back on top with the winner becoming the mandatory challenger to IBF champion Tavoris Cloud, a fight likely to happen in May. Yusaf Mack has been in camp since the 6th November after he was originally scheduled to fight Karo Murat in late December.
On speaking to Mack regarding all the changes of fight times and opponents we asked has this effected his preparation for the biggest fight of his life, his response "Hell no, I am in the best shape of my life, I have worked really hard and cut no corners and I am ready to light up the light heavyweight division. I was initially upset when the Murat fight was cancelled but that led to the Johnson fight which is a far better fight for me, if I had beaten Murat he is an untested fighter and I would not have been given the deserved credit, now I have Johnson he has won a world title a few times, he has been involved in a crazy number of title fights, he has been in with the best and beaten the best. When I beat Glen Johnson people cannot deny I am one of the top guys out there. In regards to the time I have been in camp, my trainer John Tandy has controlled my training superbly and only now I am ready to peak just in time for the fight, I feel great, look great and I will fight great.
Tandy was also spoken too in regard to how he has kept his man focused and not burned him out, he said "We were lucky to find out the fights were cancelled or postponed with enough time to adjust the training to ensure Yusaf didn't peak too early, Yusaf has worked his ass off and is in tremendous condition, my thanks go out to the others involved, Yusaf's chief sparring partner Prince Badi has done an impeccable job of impersonating Glen Johnson's style and Kris Andrews who has also helped out in sparring, thanks to Armstrong Performance and Treatment Centre who have worked closly with Yusaf, thanks to the Goossen's gym who have given us great work, guys like Edison Miranda and all the guys down there, Fortunes Gym in Hollywood as well, now we are going to win this fight because of all your help. Yusaf is in the best shape I have seen him in since we got together in January 2008, he is now ready to show the world how good he can be.

Good luck Yusaf, John, et al. We'll be watching and rooting for him. :)

Re: Mack Ripped up and ready for war!!!
He does look ready but he is fighting a seasoned fighter, so it will be a good fight, hope ESPN show it in the UK.

Re: Mack Ripped up and ready for war!!!
Looks like Rigondeaux is fighting another tomato can on the undercard.

Re: Mack Ripped up and ready for war!!!
Great fight, think Mack has a great chance he looks ready, he has fallen short before but looks to have turned things around with wins over the likes of Chris Henry, Johnson is one tough Mutha but I think his time has passed.

Re: Mack Ripped up and ready for war!!!
Getting pretty excited for this one more day of work...............

Re: Mack Ripped up and ready for war!!!
Looking forward to the Paredes/Hernandez rematch. It should be a classic Boxer/Slugger bout (tough to be a judge). Paredes is a 5'10" power puncher, Hernandez has quick hands and quick feet.

Re: Mack Ripped up and ready for war!!!
We gotta get a shoutout! Hope he can do it and if he does beat Johnson then there's no doubt he is in the title hunt at that weight.

Re: Mack Ripped up and ready for war!!!
I think Mack wins if he doesn't get stopped (yeah I know that sounds stupid)

Re: Mack Ripped up and ready for war!!!

Re: Mack Ripped up and ready for war!!!
Anyone gonna do the chat thing?
-
Re: Mack Ripped up and ready for war!!!
I hate to say it but Johnson looked done to me in his last fight, Mack will probably retire him tonight. We will see if Chad Dawsons one sided win was just him getting better and not Johnson getting slower.

Someone on the boxrec forum posted the result already.

Re: Mack Ripped up and ready for war!!!
Chat doesn't work for me, apparently I'm banned, little bitch client. Alright, I've fairly pumped for this one but it might be a little sad for some people here.

Re: Mack Ripped up and ready for war!!!
Mack looking calm early but he looks to be trying to counter, not moving his feet much but I just don't think he can win the fight letting Johnson punch this much. You have to neautralize that somehow because he can keep this pace up all night.
-
Re: Mack Ripped up and ready for war!!!
Johnson's jab is always underrated until the day of the fight, but in round 3 Mack decided to try his luck early on the outside and the jab of Johnson doesn't seem to miss.
Doesn't look good guys, I don't think Mack is going to be able to hold up to ths.

Re: Mack Ripped up and ready for war!!!
Johnson looking alot better than his last fight for sure, but its still close in there. Maybe he's not done yet? :p
-
Re: Mack Ripped up and ready for war!!!
I thought the Dawson rematch was a product of better defensive tactics on the outside by Dawson. He beat Johnson on the feet, never let him get moving one way behind the jab, Mack's just a different type of fighter so he plays more into Johnson's hands. Johnson is so steady, when he has you in punching range it's really hard to beat him.

Re: Mack Ripped up and ready for war!!!
Good 4th round this is turning into a nice lil scrap.
-
Re: Mack Ripped up and ready for war!!!
Johnson is a fucken badass, he would have wrecked Calzaghe ;D
-
Re: Mack Ripped up and ready for war!!!
Oh snap! He just won't go away, lol. He may be in trouble against Cloud though he looks mean.
-
Re: Mack Ripped up and ready for war!!!
Good for old bones Johnson...knew it ended in the 6th (big mouths :ziplip:) but not exactly sure how...awesome win.Mack looked tired and totally spent in that 6th round.

Re: Mack Ripped up and ready for war!!!
I don't think it was stamina more of his legs weren't all there from the shots he was taking. Mack tried to mix it up and bang on the inside and Johnson ate him up.
-
Re: Mack Ripped up and ready for war!!!
Damn Jhonson is pretty impressive.

Re: Mack Ripped up and ready for war!!!
I hate to say this, but this is the outcome I expected. Mack has never shown that he is able to deal with pressure fighters. I didn't see the fight, but I thought it would take longer than it did. I expected stamina to be the main problem facing Mack, but it sounds like Johnson just overwhelmed him. He'll be back though, he's still a very solid fighter.

Mack started the fight off nicely, using his speed and finding lots of openings. He was landing his right/overhand right at will for a while. His left snapping in first to set it up. Johnson keep pressuring and was jabbing non stop. And it was a very stiff jab. It looked like that along with body shots that he started to throw were beginning to wear on Mack by the 4th. Mack's output went down and he seemed to glide and I expected he was savin energy to come out hard. Johnson kept the same game plan, pressuring and it was tellingly wearing. And when Mack tried to open up and fire it was wild hooks. It came unglued then and he got caught throwing them and the end was not far off. The 2nd KD he was hurt and Johnson was not going to back off that obv.
I think Mack tried to fight way too close. He really needed more mobility and in and out against a guy like this. The distance this fight was fought was in Johnson's favor, imo. He had a target to hit for too long. Mack had better speed I believe, but needed to use it more effectively. But who knows. Is an easy game from the bleachers.
Sux, I really wanted to see Yusaf win this. :(

I really wanted to see him win as well. He and his team all seem like genuinely good people.
I expected him to start out well, like you describe, but even in the Henry fight I thought he started to visibly tire later on and Henry couldn't carry Johnson's gym bag. I did hope that Johnson might be in significant decline and that Mack had caught him at the right time, but that clearly isn't the case. The blueprint to beat him has been laid by other pressure fighters and Johnson is one of the best in the game at breaking down fighters with his relentless assault.
Mack will be back, but I doubt if his ceiling is any higher than a title challenger. Not that there is anything wrong with that, he's accomplished a great deal in the sport, but he's just not an elite fighter at this stage.

Re: Mack Ripped up and ready for war!!!
I had a gig tonight, so just got to this on my DVR.
First I don't think I've ever seen someone down form a body punch for as long as Landeros was! Rigondeaux is gonna be fun to watch come along!
I thought Johnson looked totally gassed after that big surge in the beginning of the fourth round, but I guess he got a second wind! Johnson did his usual good work to the body, but his jab looked to be a huge weapon in this fight. It was really crisp and accurate, and seemed to have as much or more of a wilting effect on Mack as the pressure and body attack.
Too bad for Mack. I said elsewhere that I thought Johnson was a step up for Mack. That's three KO losses for Mack when he's stepped up to this level. Maybe the next time he steps up, he shouldn't fight a hard nosed pressure fighter?
Nice KO for Paredes, and then KO #4 on the night for Jhonson.
Congrats to Joe.
FNFs is really delivering the goods this season!!!
