Katsidis vs Guerrero

Keep Guerrero's wife in your prayers.

I think this is stylistic nightmare for Katsidis. Well, most boxer-punchers are going to be for the volume punching Katsidis. He has the ability to overwhelm fighters that are not top tier. After a come-from-behind KO loss to Casamayor and a shallow performance with Juan Diaz... Katsidis has managed to pick up the pieces to his career. He's coming off 3 victories. Kats, a lightweight most recently called out Anthony Mundine for a All-Autralia showdown of the now middleweight Aussie.

On the other hand.. I really like Guerrero. He's another fighter that puts every last ounce of effort in the ring. His sole loss he avenged, stopping Gamaliel Diaz in the 6th. Guerrero has had some ups and down in his career with a points loss to a PED opponent (Please, Please no one say Pacquiao or Mayweather).

Stylistically, Guerrero has the advantage being a crisper puncher, overall better boxer, and proven stamina. He's on the P4P charts, and I fully expect Katsidis to be a ~2:1 underdog even though Guerrero is moving up in weight.

I like both of these guys, make for exciting fights, and this should be a firecracker. Guererro's got more skill, but kats has tons of heart and determination, not saying guerrero doesn't. I want to say guererro but kats will keep comming no matter what...

i'm a big fan of both fighters but i'm leaning more towards guerrero. i think this is a very difficult fight for guerrero because katsidis has no quit in him and i've noticed he's improved his boxing when he fought vicente escobedo. the way he tore escobedo up impressed me alot. but i think guerrero needs to used his boxing skills and get ready for very difficult battle. this fight will tell the boxing world if guerrero can handle swarming fighters like katsidis!

Khan is over rated mate, he hasnt fought anyone. Katsidis is more proven then what Khan is. Khan should fight Kats because he is dangerous to anyone, he will keep coming no matter what. He will put pressure on him all night and we will see if Khan can handle that risk of being knocked out in any round.

This is an interesting fight in the sense that you don't know what's going to happen when a fighter moves up in weight, especially against a fighter who uses his physicality for all it's worth like Kats.

Still we can all acknowledge that Ghost is a much better fighter, it's just a question of what he brings that night. Not trying to start a thing here but I don't understand why so many posters here are so moist for Kats. Sure he's a pressure fighter and that can be fun to watch. Still in his fight against the light hitting boxer style fighter Escobedo, Kats still had his cheek broke and had to win on guts alone.

Kats' style will catch up with him. Will it happen against Ghost? Not sure but the odds are good.

Since when has Khan ever been charismatic? He comes across as a bit of a dim witted, plonker to be honest. Now someone like Ali had charisma, but Amir Khan? I really don't think so.

Bradley is a fighter people should be taking note of because he's significantly better than all of them. I have a lot of time for Tim Bradley, though he does talk about god a little too much for my liking. He isn't very charismatic, but then I don't many boxers are particularly charismatic. He is very exciting to watch though, much more entertaining than Khan.

And I agree with the others that Khan is still relatively untested and that Katsidis would make a very good opponent. He is relentless and packs a punch, everything that Khan is purposely not matched up against. Katsidis likely stops Khan.

I forgot to post about the main topic which is Katsidis against Guerrero. It's a very decent matchup and could go either way, both are likely to get cut. I go with Katsidis, who is more relentless and just doesn't know the meaning of the word quit.

It appears to me that boxing fans in UK desperate to replace Hatton and Calzaghe who were true stars have jumped on board the Khan train way to early. I see Katsidis landing heavy punches early, very similar to Prescott with Khan tasting the canvas inside of 5 rounds. They have wanted nothing of Katsidis since his demolition of Earl. A big star in UK? Prove it against all comers, Katsidis is way to dangerous a fight for the Khan camp to consider and that's the truth of it.
I believe Katsidis will beat Guerrero and i hope he challenges Khan, the interest in both the UK and Australia is enormous and Katsidis is actually more well known in the US and respected than Khan is.

Title or no title it doesnt change the fact Khan has not faced a heavy puncher since he got knocked the fuck out where Katsidis will fight anyone put in front of him. Wasnt Casamayor meant to flog katsidis in a couple of rounds? Yet Katsidis got up off the canvas to nearly stop him, it was only his inexperience that lost the fight to casa. Both Katsidis and Khan are bein overated in this thread.

Katsidis is very much in the Gatti mould. By no means a real world class boxer but good enough to win an alphabet title and be a constant contender. He gets hit too often to be elite and has big cut problems. Any elite fighter will have a rough night with him but will nearly always win the fight.

Khan has great skill and speed, far more potential than Kats, but of course there is that chin that could let him down at any moment. I think the hate aimed at him is due to the un earnt hype surrounding him so far, but thats boxing these days. he really hasnt faced a big threat yet, but on his day probably has the goods to beat a lot of top fighters. Until he does tho i think he will be seen as overhyped

Even tho im a big Katsidis fan, and not real keen on Khan i think in all honesty Khan would beat him 8 outta 10 times, Michael would have a punchers chance. I think we know how good Katsidis is and what his level is, the jury is still out on Khan.

Fine ill give you that hes fighting marquez but since when has marquez been a massive puncher at this weight? You know why Roach is letting this fight happen? Coz hes willing to bet that even though JMM has great skill, hes probably not going to have the one punch knockout power. So even if Khan loses it wont look that bad because he lost a future hall of famer and also if JMM doesnt have that power and it goes the distance and Khan loses then Roach will be able to say "it was a robbery".

The way everyone talks about Khan is just rediculous, he is nothing to anyone at the moment. Fuck all people in australia have any idea who he is and id say its quite the same in the united states. He is not a name outside of the UK, the name in this fight is JMM, he is not a star and hes a nothing at the moment. Personally I dont even think he deserves to be in the same arena let alone the same ring as JMM considering he has done nothing to deserve it.

Their are probably more people in Britain right now who think Winston Churchill is a fictional character than there are people in American who know who these guys are. Seriously. Well its funny with Australia, some of our best boxers could be standing right in front of someone and no one knows who they are. Vic Darchinyan is not known by anyone in australia yet hes one the best to come for australia since Kostya Tszyu yet Anthony Mundine and Danny Green are known. There was once an article in the aus papers that talked to vic and katsidis and they both agreed they get more people stopping them in the street in the US then in australia. Thats one thing that really sucks about this country, theres very little true boxing fans...theres general fight fans who love watching guys knock each other out but not many who are genuine fans of the sport.

I don't think Katsitis is more proven. He has proven that when he steps up he loses. If he fought Khan and loss it would just confirm the prior notion and there's be nothing to credit Khan for.

And in boxing it truly doesnt matter who you fight nowadays it matters the name you have and how much money and gate you generate. Khan fighting Marquez is the smartest business decision he can make. Khan could fight 5 hard fights at his weight class no one had heard of and be just no more credited or recognizable, but if he beats Marquez he has Barerra and Marquez on his resume, regardless on how he got it, and thats what the casual fan will look at and it will give them someone to watch stateside. Khan has to accomplish that before he has "hard fights" there's no point in having a hard fight and losing your prime before anyone outside of your country "knows" your name. We've seen it before, a fighter will have a spectacular prime elsewhere and a lot of non casual diehards will get behind them but they will remain relatively unknown to the casual fan, then the moment of truth comes and then when they finally come to national TV they are past it and don't look the same. Khan is doing the smart thing right now.

Shit I voted Guerrero KO but I meant pts W. Although Katsidis' none stop pressure may eventually catch upto the smaller man and a KO win for Michael is more than a possibility.

Well id say Khan is in the same boat, when he stepped up to Prescott he was knocked out brutally. Id say Katsidis level of competition is better and Khans reputation will depend on his fight with JMM as I dont think he has stepped up since Prescott.

I think Khan would crack under the relentless pressure of Katsidis, hes not floyd mayweather. Khan fights scared when he thinks hes in trouble and hed have many of those moments again katsidis.

Fine ill give you that hes fighting marquez but since when has marquez been a massive puncher at this weight? You know why Roach is letting this fight happen? Coz hes willing to bet that even though JMM has great skill, hes probably not going to have the one punch knockout power. So even if Khan loses it wont look that bad because he lost a future hall of famer and also if JMM doesnt have that power and it goes the distance and Khan loses then Roach will be able to say "it was a robbery".

The way everyone talks about Khan is just rediculous, he is nothing to anyone at the moment. Fuck all people in australia have any idea who he is and id say its quite the same in the united states. He is not a name outside of the UK, the name in this fight is JMM, he is not a star and hes a nothing at the moment. Personally I dont even think he deserves to be in the same arena let alone the same ring as JMM considering he has done nothing to deserve it.

Hope JMM knocks his head into the 5th row.

hell i remember in another thread (i think it was the one saying that Green/Hopkins was off), that you said that Hopkins isn't even known in Australia, if that's the case then there's some real big probs over there if the people who "love" the sport don't know one of the biggest names to come out of it in the last 20 yrs, like it or not (i'm actually pretty indifferent) Khan is a big name, has he done anything to deserve it? no not really, but the kid knows how to sell a fight and basically brings people in, his name is thrown around alot on US broadcasts and articles from American writer's, and a loss to Marquez wouldn't look as bad as a loss to Katsidis because Marquez is a far superior opponent than Katsidis

Katsidis and his team just getting impatient wants a big name waiting like Hatton, Marquez and Pacquiao just wasting time and talent.

I think if he and his team want solid names, he must go for Valero (135) then Maidana/Ortiz/Khan or then go with Alexander and Bradley (140).

there are plenty of big names at 135, Guerrero, Soto, Valero, Guzman, Funeka, a rematch with Diaz, Marquez if he goes back down, hell even can take on Mitchell in the UK

I was critical of Guerrero when he punked out of his fight with Yordan (speaking of Yordan, what has he been up to?). At the time, I felt Yordan really surprised Guerrero and Guererro quit because he knew he was in for a long night especially with the cut. In his next fight out, however, Guerrero looked impressive against the South African, which surprised me somewhat. Katsidis in turn looked very good against his last opponent. It'll be a good action fight which Guerrero should win.

Everyone here give Katsidis a lot of credit comparing him to Gatti. He has similar punch resistance, the ability to get off the canvas and change a fight, and maybe an overwhelming fighter in most regards. Most people on here remember the Gatti that was outclassed by Mayweather (as a 6:1 underdog or more I'm sure). The real Gatti was a much more proven fighter at lightweight and a most assured Hall of Famer for his compelling Super Featherweight reign.

Katsidis has a LOT of work to do. Don't get me wrong... I'm not missing any of HIS fights either.

I think roach and his people are doing the right thing. No one including khan himself really know where to place khan right now. A lot of the talk surrounding the guy is coming from media and fans who aren't looking at the kid as a whole. Instead for whatever reason are just quick to see the kid loose. He should be stepped up gradually, the guy was a prospect just a short time ago. He shouldn't be taking the toughest fight out there yet. He should fight decent comp and move up in comp with each fight. Anyhow to stay on topic i'd take katsidis to beat guerrero and both of these guys to beat khan. But who cares they should, khan's not at thier level yet.

I've been a big fan of Guerrero when he started. I've only just seen Katsidis with his last couple of fight's and I have to say this is a good stylistic match-up. Guerrero I feel has very underrated boxing skills and Katsidis is a very exciting fighter. But I have to go with my man The Ghost in UD.

This fight isn't happening now, Guerrero's wife is sick as her leukaemia has come back.

Guerrero won't fight Katsidis because of wife's illness
