Can you recall an upset the was PARTICULARLY satisfying?

When World War Two ended, I can recall exactly where I was. When JFK was assassinated, I knew where I was. When 9/11 occurred, I also knew exactly where I was. And when Mike Tyson was knocked into Japanese dreamland by Buster Douglass, I also knew where I was. It was that big of an upset.

Arguably, there is nothing more thrilling than an upset. For some, it means shocking disappointment; for others, it is sudden and pleasant surprise. Kirkland Laing shocked Roberto Duran but himself was later shocked by Buck “Tombstone” Smith. Lloyd Honeyghan did it to Donald Curry. Limited Louis Monaco stopped Kevin McBride in 1997, but McBride himself stopped Mike Tyson eight years later.

Which brings me to Thailand where horrendous mismatches are the rule rather than the exception. As just one example, Filipino Roger Monserto, 0-3 at the time, fought Chatchai Sasakul, then 60-3 (now 65-4), in July 2007 in a steaming hot arena in Bangkok. He also fought Ratanachai Sor Vorapin, then 69-9 and now 73-12 with 49 stoppages. Monserto, now 0-6, has fought against opponents with a combined won-loss record of 308-27-1. Many veteran Thai boxers fight opponents who are making their pro debuts. This is crazy--and dangerous.

But every once in a while, the tables are turned. This past weekend at Kyuden Gym, in Fukuoka, Japan, heavy hometown favorite Kazuyoshi Niki (25-3-1 coming in) went up against winless Thai Chattorn Kiattorborubol. Showing an atypical willingness to fight outside of Thailand, all of his losses have come in Japan. Niki last lost in 2003 and had gone undefeated in his last 17 fights, though five of his wins came against Thai fighters making their debut.

This time, however, it was Kazuyoshi Niki who was on the losing end, as he was stopped 1.35 into the seventh round. No, this one won’t go down as a Michael Bentt-Tommy Morrison-type upset, but there was something very satisfying about it. You see, if Kiattorborubol can do it, then there is hope for just about anyone on any given night, and that‘s one of the many reason I have a passion for this thing called boxing.

I would say Vic Darchinyan losing to Nonito Donaire. I find Vic to be cocky & he seems to enjoy toying with his opponent. That lost brought him back to earth.

Sneer away, but I very much enjoyed seeing Sergio Mora beat Vernon Forrest.

Winky beating Shane because Winky was underrated before then and he needed to be seen as a superstar.

Watching him get his ass kicked was satisfying but he was still cocky as heck during the post fight interview. I think he said something to the effect that Donaire didn't hurt him and he didn't lose even though he got knocked the fuck out. lol

Any time Wladimir Klitschko has been KO'd I have pretty much celebrated it as a national holiday.

Mayorga beating Forrest the first time was great.

When James Toney broke down and stopped Vasiliy Jirov that was extremely satisfying to watch, especially since the HBO broadcast team was very pro-Jirov.

Recently when Maidana made Ortiz quit that was enjoyable to watch.

One that also sticks and I'll never shut up about."past" it Ras-I Bramble brought in for undefeated and streaking Oba Carr.He was chosen by receiving the most "900" phone votes and brought young Carr to hell in the ring.Deserved the win.We must have called from every single pay phone we saw haaa.

Foreman-Moorer. Great to see the old man exorcised his demons and recapture the HW title. It was pretty awesome to see him wearing the same red shorts almost 20 years to the day that he lost to Ali while fighting Moorer.

for me two things standout that made my day! china chin amir khan getting destroyed by breidis prescott and mike tyson, reaffirming my belief that he was vastly overrated, getting KO'd by a 42-1 underdog, Buster Douglas! those two stand out for me!

Barrera beating Hameds arrogant butt and ramming his head into the corner post was 1 to remember.

Baldomir beating Judah. Then Judah blaming Don King fucking priceless.

Shit, I mean, he did everything but end Jirov's career with that beating in the later rounds. Looking back a KO he may have come back from. But Toney getting the better of him over those 12 hard rounds.. And that fantastic KD... what a fight!

Props to CutMeMick... Baldomir beating Zab was rather satisfying. He is such an arrogant prick with nothing but excuses when it comes down to it. Judah is probably the best 4 round fighter in history. How did he not win a gold metal in the olympics?

It was an upset at the time and a big one considering what everyone on here was saying and all the boxing "experts" too were saying, and that fight was Calzaghe/Lacy. It wasn't just a win, it was a beautiful display of the most precise and dominating boxing you could ask for. It's a fight that I get great pleasure from watching; it is boxing as artistry.

To me it was really never much of an upset and you can dig through my posts to prove me right. I knew all along that Calzaghe would be way too much and it was good to be proven right as a novice on here. I've lost a few stripes since, but that one earned me a few points. I've always got a soft spot for it.

- Hopkins beating Tarver, I remember how peoples were saying he was too old and that getting up in weight to fight against the kingpin would be too much for him. Not that I am a huge fan of Hopkins but I sure dislike Tarver a lot.

Hopkins vs. Trinidad. best performance of the decade.

Frankie Randall beating Julio Cesar Chavez. Not that I particularly disliked Chavez, but between the Meldrick Taylor incident and the Pernell Whitaker draw, it seemed the judges/refs weren't ever going to allow Chavez to lose a fight unless somebody knocked him out. Randall didn't dominate JCC, but he did enough to where he couldn't be denied.

Courtney Burton KO'ing Angel Manfredy. Again, I didn't dislike Manfredy, but it was cool watching a guy like Burton who'd been through some adversity realize his dream in front of you like that. You could tell that fight meant everything to him and he got the job done.

I like 99% of upsets, because I always cheer for the underdog.
Tyson going down to Douglas was a thrill at the time.
Did lennox good getting sparked.
Ivan over Atturo.

Brewster beating Wlad, that was satisfying.
