So curling is a recognized sport but darts isn't.....?
Never watched curling before but just had olympics on and watched a few minutes of it.
So this is a fucking sport is it. Some guy or bird slowly releases a big clay pot or whatever it is and two others brush the ice as it goes down ??
And darts where two guys play a match of up to 3 hours sometimes throwing accurately for most of that time fails to get the recognition ?
I know which I think is the more skillful
And while I am on it then if pistol shooting is a recognized sport too then why not darts ? I mean yes the guys can shoot accurately but do they expend as much energy as a darts thrower - I think not.
Darts is a big money game now - curlers and pistol shooters will disappear into obscurity once olympics are over.

Re: So curling is a recognized sport but darts isn't.....?
curling requires both tactical and a very small amount of athletic ability.
I recognise all winter olympic events as sports as i do bowls, snooker etc. But i`ll be damned to hell if i ever recognise darts as nothing more than a pub game
-
Re: So curling is a recognized sport but darts isn't.....?
so pistol shooting then - you recognize that as a sport ?
-
Re: So curling is a recognized sport but darts isn't.....?
i dont give a fk abt the winter games as its every 4 yrs inbetween no one in britain gives a fk! its like tennis no one gives fk in britain abt that unless its wimbledon!
hurling is the worst so called sport in history, its crown green bowling on ice for fks sake!

Re: So curling is a recognized sport but darts isn't.....?
I give up, I don't get it.

Re: So curling is a recognized sport but darts isn't.....?
Shooting something sliding down the ice then sweeping up the mess after wards there's a sport.
Wonder if darts could still be held in a drinking bar?
OR outside in the cold blizzard for the winter Olympics.
Or maybe underwater at the end of the pool as a water event.
Blindfolded darts for the specia never mind thats dangerous.

Re: So curling is a recognized sport but darts isn't.....?
The drinking and smoking darts players of the 80s are still remembered by the toffs who don't realise how the game has transformed. Three weeks ago 10,000 went to watch the first night of the premier league at the O2 arena. Go figure.
Lets see the GB team win the curling gold medal then go on a tour of the country and see how many come watch them - I will reserve the phone booth near where I live in case they decide to come here
Andre - what is that a picture of on your avatar ??

But the sport is still predominently played by tubby beer drinkers in there 40s who learnt the trade in their local. You dont have to carry around a bottle of water or a towel to play a game of darts but yet more often than not they do and its neccesary because the fat out of shape b*stards get out of breath picking up their darts.
roger federer = sportsman
tiger woods = sportsman
lionel messi = sportsman
phil taylor = someone who plays a pub game rather well

Re: So curling is a recognized sport but darts isn't.....?
Tiger Woods/golf don't count then. Plenty of world-class golfers are fat smoker boozers. A 60-year-old was one shot away from winning The Open last year.
10,000 at the 02 is amazing. Darts pisses all over boxing.

Hmmmm, abit of a generalisation there mate. James Wade won the Premier League last year, he aint a fat slob, others to mention Simon Whitlock, Colin Osbourne, Paul Nicolson, Jelle Klaasen, Co Stompe etc
Since Tiger came on the scene most Golfers were not that bothered about weight and stamina, Tiger reinvigorated the sport and took it to another level, the others had to change to keep up.
The others ya mentioned are fair enough, they are running around for anywhere between 2-4hrs. Although Butterbean done alright in his day ;D

I think the majority are quite fit and in good health now, but still you can be a great golfer without concentrating on fitness to much look at Phil Mickelson world number three and has bigger tits than your average page three bird.

Re: So curling is a recognized sport but darts isn't.....?
I wouldn't mind those women playing curling on my kitchen floor or bathtub. At least it would be cleaner after they were done with their brushing and sweeping.

Re: So curling is a recognized sport but darts isn't.....?
Hatton you've suddenly gone from comparing darts as a sport with curling and pistol shooting to comparisons with golf, football and tennis. Massive difference when trying to defend darts in that particular arena.
I never questioned those 3 sports - how could I ?
What I'm saying is if certain ones are accepted then others should be.
And yes golf does have resident fat bastards in the top 30

All im saying is that its a sport that requires 0% physical ability, i completely accept the argument that daly isnt exactly in tip top shape but he still is required to hit a golf ball 300 odd yards.
The reason darts has such a bad rep is because of not only the competitors being in diabolical shape but that in large people that go to these events are watching a pub sport while drinking beer, smoking and being roudy.....the very thing a pub would associate itself with!!

Re: So curling is a recognized sport but darts isn't.....?
How about billiards? Do you guys consider it as a sport?
-
Re: So curling is a recognized sport but darts isn't.....?
Darts should be a recognised sport, it requires a lot of skill to become that good. It really doesn't matter if a few of the competitors are overweight, people who play golf are not normally primed to run marathons in under 3 hours either. I love darts and watching it can be fun.
Curling is shite, dunno why anybody would want to watch that TBH.

Re: So curling is a recognized sport but darts isn't.....?
I agree with the posts above. The Winter Olympics is utter tosh.
I too like a lot of sports, but figure skating and curling and all those other winter "sports"....I don't really see the point in them.

Re: So curling is a recognized sport but darts isn't.....?
Exactly - declare darts a sport now !
Anyway Andre - what sort of pres coverage did Simon Whitlock get back home in Oz after he got to world darts final in January? He was unseeded and though he lost 7-3 but the score slightly flattered the Power as Whitlock played well
