Berto Vs. Quintana April 10th
Andre Berto to defend title against Carlos Quintana on April 10 - ESPN
sounds like a good fight, and a good step up for Berto, i mean Quintana's no Mosley but he's capable of pulling an upset over Berto
Re: Berto Vs. Quintana April 10th
This is a pretty solid card -- Berto/Quintana is a good fight and a smart step up for Berto. I always thought the jump from where he was (fighting a blown up Juan Urango) to Shane Mosley was too big of a jump for him at this stage of his development. However, Quintana is a much better fight for him right now and a fight that has a chance of being pretty competitive.
The undercard fight between Glen Johnson and Tavoris Cloud should be a VERY interesting fight. I'm one of those people who is really high on Cloud, and I think he should handle Glen, who remains one of the best guys in boxing -- with relative ease. I also think that an older Road Warrior took this fight with not enough time in between since his fight with Yusaf Mack but it'll be interesting to see because just when you think Glen Johnson is done he comes roaring back.

I like this match-up man. I just updated my desktop wallpaper boxing calender today and added this one this morning having only just found out. Surprising match-up, tough shot for Berto really, but if he's gonna make it he has to get through. Caused PWill problems first time round so we'll see....

IMO Quintana is a much better fighter than most give him credit for being, the fact that he's fought bigger guys also gives him a slight advantage IMO
Re: Berto Vs. Quintana April 10th
nice stuff
quintana isnt a step up from collazo id say its about par, but andre struggled like hell that night and many had him losing the fight so hopefully this should be interesting.
hope for clouds sake, johnson doesnt make him look ugly and the youngster gets caught out by an old warhead with tons of experience on him.
Glen johnson for all his qualitys can make an extremely awkward night for you!
Re: Berto Vs. Quintana April 10th
Serious question, is Quintana the biggest guy Berto has faced?
Re: Berto Vs. Quintana April 10th
Guys, Quintana can be a big upset for Berto. I would suggest Berto not to make too many plans of fighting Mosley, Floyd, Pacman, or any other fighter until he pass this test. A well prepare Quinatana can be a headache for most fighters, and I don't think Berto will be the exception. However, a concern I have is that Quinatana will have to loss weight to go back to 147 from 154, and this may not help him. Quintana had not been that active and this can really go against him. If Berto can hurt Quintana early, then the story can be in favor of Berto. But, if Quintana can dominate he cannot allow the judges to take the decision, otherwise he may be a victim of another stealing.

Absolutely, I can see this being a real banana skin for Berto, who I don't think is all that and was very very lucky to say the least to come away with the victory from Collazo, who I really like.
Re: Berto Vs. Quintana April 10th
Finally................An actual welterweight.;D
Re: Berto Vs. Quintana April 10th
This is an interesting match-up. I just hope that Berto is fully recovered from the tragedy in his home country by the time he meets Quintana.
Re: Berto Vs. Quintana April 10th
Although I agree that the jump to Mosley was quite steep for Berto & that Quintana is a very capable fighter. I think this is a walk in the park for Berto! Imo he just that much better. Qunitana's getting KTFO!!!

Agreed. Berto stops him and looks very good doing so.
Re: Berto Vs. Quintana April 10th
Quintana gets absoloutely schooled, unfortunately.
Re: Berto Vs. Quintana April 10th
good fight for Berto.
Quintana is well schooled and has enough power to trouble Berto but i see Berto using his superior speed to catch Quintana when he wants to.
I also don't have much trust in Quintana's chin, I think Berto stops him midway through the fight.
Re: Berto Vs. Quintana April 10th
I see Collazo as the superior fighter to Quintana. I honestly think the only reason people think Collazo isn't all that is because he hurt his left hand early against Mosley because in those first three rounds he was doing better than mosley was in the fight. ONce he stopped throwing with conviction Mosley could do whatever he wanted and knew Collazo was throwing punches short. He has considerably faster hands than Quintana, and he has a much higher output and a much better chin. I think output bothers Berto more than technical skill because when Berto fights a technical fighter he fights more technical himself (like against Forbes) or when Collazo tried to box against Berto, Andre controlled him really easily on the outside with that speed.
Re: Berto Vs. Quintana April 10th
i'd say Quintana is plenty active, he beat Williams the first time around cause he was outworking Williams, he has a wider variety of punches and has better power than Collazo, and can't really knock his chin seeing how the only guys to hurt him are, hard hitting Joel Julio, the strongest guy at welter Miguel Cotto, and the freak of nature Paul Williams

I'm not trying to hate on Quintana, I like him a lot. However, I just don't see him at that elite level, I think he had/has the right style to beat Paul Williams which is basically anyone who excels and boxing and moving. But Paul Williams isn't a big puncher and he got Williams out of there quick the second fight. Miguel Cotto is a massive puncher so I don't discredit Quintana for that except that every other welterweight Cotto fought handled his power a little bit better.
I just can't see him as a step up for Berto who beats a guy in Collazo who doesn't have the name, but could compete against anyone at the top level of the division if he has an "on" night. I honestly think the COllazo that fought Berto would have even given Mayweather or PAcquiao a ton of problems. A guy who could almost match their handspeed, throw 1000+ punches with a solid chin. Its like a welterweight Calzaghe.

Truthfully, a Collazo-Quintana is a great Puerto Rican welterweight scrap. What's up with Collazo btw?

he's apparently in talks to fight undefeated Selcuk Aydin for some interim title

Really? I would love to see that, Aydin is one dimensional, but he is a wrecking ball. I really want to see Collazo back in the ring soon!
