Hasegawa-Montiel set
By Joe Koizumi
Teiken Promotions has acknowledged the contract of Fernando Montiel (40-2-2, 30 KOs) duly signed by himself and his exclusive promoter Fernando Beltran on Tuesday. WBO bantam champ Montiel is scheduled to square off against WBC titlist Hozumi Hasegawa (28-2, 12 KOs) here in Tokyo, Japan, on April 30. It will be a very sensational confrontation of the world champions which our fight fans anticipate with great enthusiasm.

Re: Looks like Hasegawa-Montiel is set
Man I hope this is true, this would be one of the superfights of the year if they weren't at bantam. So far the only acknowledgements have come from Teiken, haven't heard anything from Montiel's people confirming it yet. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I could kiss you man. In a non-gay way of course.

Re: Looks like Hasegawa-Montiel is set
I absolutely love this fight, it's fantastic. I really want Hasegawa to step it up and show the world just how special a fighter he is. I'm going that he stops Montiel in 10.
That has to be the best weekend of boxing there is this year. I wish it was April 29th already :)

This is excellent news and many hardcore boxing fans are salivating at this potential match up.
It's going to be another great year for boxing.

Re: Looks like Hasegawa-Montiel is set
Very glad to see some of the best meeting the best.Had my hopes on Montiel smacking Morel around but this will be much better fight...and much more dangerous.I think Montiel pulls it out.

Re: Looks like Hasegawa-Montiel is set
Both fighters are favorites. Undecided on who to go with yet

Re: Looks like Hasegawa-Montiel is set
Hasegawa takes this one by KO. Montiel is terrible against lefties.
I'll sig bet anyone.

Z Gorres was a lefty. As is the fighter who ruined him. Luis Melendez. Montiel holds wins over both

Re: Looks like Hasegawa-Montiel is set
What's this thread doin lurking at the bottom of the page? This is great news. To be honest, I kinda accepted that it was not really worth giving a hoot about Hasegawa simply because I assumed he'd carry on fighting in Japan and that no-one of note would travel there... Props to Montiel for being willing to travel. I take it Hasegawa is a huge name in Japan? I like his style; very composed, sturdy.

Re: Looks like Hasegawa-Montiel is set
awesome awesome fight, and a close one at that, but given how magnificent Hasegawa has been as of late i'm gonna have to give him a slight edge going in, can't wait to see it

Re: Looks like Hasegawa-Montiel is set
i think these two guys match up really well. both have speed and power and alot of ability. if it's a close fight, the judges are going to give it to hasegawa. everyone knows this! montiel must be confident he can go to japan and beat hasegawa soundly. i gotta go with montiel in this one even though i originally said hasegawa would probably win. montiel is a very underrated boxer/puncher and this future hall of famer probably has a few big fights left in his future.

What a shock, you're favouring the Mexican fighter, that's not like you at all
Anyway, this doesn't appear as set as we were hoping. From the looks of it Montiel wants more money. I hope this gets sorted so this fight gets made. I don't understand what he says about the contract though because Teiken were waving a copy that looked like it had his signature on it.

Speed kills, and so Hasegawa becomes the first man to stop Montiel. TKO 10.

Montiel is taking all the risks going to Japan. He should at least be compensated for it

Re: Looks like Hasegawa-Montiel is set
Oh well, I thought two sources was enough, obviously not.

Re: Looks like Hasegawa-Montiel is set
Hope it happens.
The Hasegawa fans will finally get to see him in an acid test

Re: Looks like Hasegawa-Montiel is set
I'd never actually seen either of these guys fight. Made some downloads, watched some fights, and I believe this is going to be a very very good figyht indeed. Got me excited....

Hmm.. that's a bit harsh on Guzman, he already beat a few well known world-class guys.
But I think a lot of Hasegawa fans will feel foolish if Montiel slaughters him ;D

His win against Gorrez was BS. Montiel's win against Melendez wasn't walk in the park for him either.

i thought he clearly beat Gorres in a tough fight, it wasn't like the Darchinyan fight where i felt that the Draw should have been a W for Z, Haswegawa has been on a roll and he's my pick to win, but no one he's taken on is in Montiel's league
