Klitschko-Chambers this weekend, anyone else excited?
I know Wladimir is almos assuredly going to win, but I hope I am not the only one who appreciates how good he is. I think what he has done since losing to Lamont Brewster has been absolutely amazing. You take a guy with such a glaring vulnerability and he is able to cover it up against legitimate opponents time after time with his amazing skills is... amazing. I know Larry Holmes had an amazing jab, but I have honestly not seen a better jab than Wlad's at any weight class, not only is it quick but its strong enough to knock a 240 puncher onto their heels. It has pin point accuracy and it totally controls a fight. I know lots of people find it boring but this IMO will show the difference between Wlad and other big fighters. Chambers absolutely had his way with a quick and skilled boxer in 6'7 Dimitrenko. He was able to maneuver his way onto the inside, he countered from the outside and dazzled a good opponent, but Wlad's footwork, ring generalship and power is a different ball game.
... I just wish HBO was covering this.

Re: Klitschko-Chambers this weekend, anyone else excited?
I am excited. I am not sure how chambers can win, but I will be rooting for him.
If he did pull the upset, it would be a good injection of excitement into the heavyweight division.
-
Re: Klitschko-Chambers this weekend, anyone else excited?
I really hope Chambers can pull this off. I'm gonna be out on Saturday night when it's on, so will probably have to download it the next day without finding out the result if I can.
I actually really like Wlad, prefer him by far to his brother. What amazes me is how much shit he gets compared to Vitali, when he's the one who seems more determined to take on the best opposition available. Since that awful fight against Ibragimov, he's tried to fight Povetkin & Haye, taken on Rahman & Chagaev at short notice & now he's gonna fight the best American rather than taking on prospects & guys who've been stopped by Zuri Lawrence.
Still I really hope Chambers can do it. There was a piece this week by Bill Dettloff to Jimmy Young ahead of the Foreman fight & whilst I doubt that Chambers is as good as Young, I really think he has more of a chance than any of the other guys who've recently fought a Klitschko. Still not much.

Re: Klitschko-Chambers this weekend, anyone else excited?
Will be about as exciting as a samuel peter-oleg maskaev burger bar eat off
I`ll watch purely for its value to boxing. But im already fully aware of the tiresome script:(

Re: Klitschko-Chambers this weekend, anyone else excited?
Too many fights are slipping under my radar... Thanks for the update Teath.
I'm VERY excited about this fight. Two of the best in the division... That's interesting enough for me. I have my doubts about the clash of styles but two tactical guys can make a fight go either way... I'm all eyes.

Re: Klitschko-Chambers this weekend, anyone else excited?
Shit, I almost forgot about this fight. That's the sad state of the HW division when it's being put on internet PPV and it's for the legitimate HW crown.

Re: Klitschko-Chambers this weekend, anyone else excited?
I'm one of the few american's that have no problem with either of the klitschko's. Not thier fault that thier competetion has been crappy. No need to put unecessary damage on your body when you can jab your way though these chumps and get the same belt and same money....that being said chambers is another one of those chumps. He couldn't handle the pressure of povetkin but he thinks he can beat one of these two ???!! Yea right good fuckin luck. I wouldn't even take off my warm up's if i were wlad. So excited no. I can watch any of the past 10 fights they've been in to see the same garbage you're gonna see this weekend. I'm actually glad they are not wasting money to invest in this fight. That money could be better served on almost any other match. I can see haye maybe making a fight worth watching but even that dude is a cack and talks way way more than he fights. He's good at making t shirts and pissing off guys till they actually get mad and pay him attention then out with the excuses. I think clottey stole his last bubble stomach one so who know what haye will say next. Sorry to klitschlko fans in the u.s. But outside of maybe 10 or so of us the reality is no one really cares. wlad will win easy like he always does and people will bitch.....then next fighter and repeat.
-
Re: Klitschko-Chambers this weekend, anyone else excited?
I am excited as Wlad is one of my favorite fighters but the match itself should be one sided...it's not Wlad's fault he dominates contender after contender.
The "Legit" Heavyweight championship of the world should always be televised IMO but I can understand HBO not wanting to go head to head with the NCAA Tourney this weekend. ESPN Classic or Versus should have stepped up

His resume isn't even as good as Povetkin's or Chagaev's.
People's champ you say? How exciting was his fight against Valuev? Boring as f*ck (oooo my hand hurts)

Re: Klitschko-Chambers this weekend, anyone else excited?
Chambers looked great against Dimintrenko, but awful against Povetkin. Wlad's jab will triumph again. Chamber reactions should carry him rounds and I expect it to at least be semi-competitive early on. What will be really interesting to me is to see where Chambers comes in on the scales, I want to see him as light as he was against Dimintrenko he's going to need some phenomenal footwork to get over that reach deficit.

Re: Klitschko-Chambers this weekend, anyone else excited?
This is a good matchup.
Rankings of heavyweights I have any interest in
1. Wlad
2. Eddie Chambers
3. Povetkin
4. Haye
5. Chazz Witherspoon
6. Albert Sosnowski
7. Vitali Klitschko
Really that should be spaced out more. I like this matchup but I don't think Eddie will win but he is definitely the most talented guy a Klitschko has faced in a while.
-
Re: Klitschko-Chambers this weekend, anyone else excited?
Eddie should have insisted on Olympic style drug testing.
This is his chance to become an American HERO. Unfortunately it probably won't happen. Next heavyweight with a chance to be an American HERO: David Haye.
-
Re: Klitschko-Chambers this weekend, anyone else excited?
hell no, this fight is gonna be boring as hell.
If these guys were Welterweights fighting, this shit wouldn't even be broadcasted.
-
Re: Klitschko-Chambers this weekend, anyone else excited?
I honestly think guys like Brewster, Peters, Ibragimov, Chagaev, CHambers, Brock wouldn't be bad fighters in the heavyweight division in any era. I think they all would have had the potential to make it to the top 10 of any era of boxing, but some of them likes Peters would have had to have been more focused or in the same shape as he was when he faced Wladimir or better.
I think Wladimir gets flack for dominating them, but I honestly don't think very many of the all-time greats would have dominated these guys the same way. Chagaev and Ibrigamov are quick, well schooled, tough boxers. Peters(when he was 240 or less) was quick handed, tough beard, and tough to beat. Chambers has incredibly fast hands and he has a really good guard, but I think he has the same problems Clottey has against top opposition. Brock was an awkward guy like Norton and I think he would have given the boxers of the past a hard time and the sluggers would have destroyed him.
-
Re: Klitschko-Chambers this weekend, anyone else excited?
Its hard to get excited about this fight when youve seen Wvlad box before. He is as exciting to watch as staring at paint dry and his opponent has all the ambition as a man on death row. Chambers just has the look of a Thompson or Johnson who will turn up, try to survive then give up.
Hayes bringing it whoever he fights. He was too cautious vs Valuev but I can forgive 1 boring fight. All Wvlads fights though are boring so until they fight each other I think I might give Saturday night a miss.

Re: Klitschko-Chambers this weekend, anyone else excited?
Chambers will find some success even if Vlad wins most rounds. My take is at times he'll get inside the height of Vlad and score, but it won't be often enough to win the fight. The fight should be more exciting than most Vlad fights. I wish it were being shown by american television.
In terms of heavyweights, the next fight I'm actually excited about is the Adamek v. Arreola scrap in April. That should be a slugfest.

In answer to the question - NO -
Noticed Virgin have it on Boxoffice for a tenner, bloody expensive way to get yaself off top sleep if ya ask me :o

Re: Klitschko-Chambers this weekend, anyone else excited?
This isn't a fight I am all that interested in. As usual I will be pulling for the tubby short underdog and as per usual he will probably lose. But I'm not really bothered either way.

Its such a shame really, adamek-arreola = interesting, haye-ruiz = interesting
Its not eddies fault that the guy he is fighting is just too good for him. Wlad should be designated to a select few fighters ala:haye, povetkin and possibly adamek somewhere down the line
Vitali may as well just retire. He aint ever getting beat by anything around at the moment and all barring a haye overhand right its pretty much a done deal he`ll be retiring with just the 2 on his loss record

Adamek-Arreola should be a fun fight. I'm less interested in Ruiz- Haye because of Ruiz but also Haye's awful Valuev showing.
I would much rather see Haye and Povetkin get the slot next time out. I'm not so sure about Adamek yet, but hopefully he will do well against Arreola and indicate that he can do more.

Re: Klitschko-Chambers this weekend, anyone else excited?
And why on earth are we still seeing John Ruiz in big fights? The fact that this chump is still around tells you everything about the heavyweight division in the 21st century.

Yeah I don't know how he swings it. I don't even know who his promoter is, but that guy has to be one of the best in the business. From 2000-2010 he has fought for major titles every year except 2007 and 2009, when you factor in 5 losses, a draw and a NC (which was originally a loss) in that time, you realize the power of the pen.

the valuev fight was never gonna be anything more than ugly
Neither guy was ever knocking either man out. The rare moments valuev actually let his hands go he felt the power and went back on the defence.
Wont be the same with ruiz. He`ll get in hayes face the whole time and try to make a fight out of it. Haye will inevitably begin to drop his hands and thats when the fun will start to begin.
Haye by TKO round 9/10

Re: Klitschko-Chambers this weekend, anyone else excited?
Not really interested at all, it's going to be a dull 12 round snoozer with Chambers unable to make any impact and just covering up and looking to survive.
I anticipate a rerun of Vitali's fight with Kevin Johnson, although Chambers may run a little more and back up to the ropes a little less.
Anyway, after about 3 rounds, Wlad will have completely nullified any offensive output from Chambers, who like most good defensive boxers will see it as a moral victory to not get hit and much like Ishe Smith he will just allow himself to be outworked on the way to losing a decision but will take comfort from that fact he was not in any trouble at any time.
No knockdowns, no exciting moments, no fighter hurt at any time, just 12 rounds of Wlad jabbing, Chambers moving and covering up.
The final bell will act as the alarm for the fans to wake up.

Re: Klitschko-Chambers this weekend, anyone else excited?
Actually in a "hey shes breathing and willing, yeh I'd do her :-X" sort of way.....I'm looking forward to this.Think Chambers may frustrate the hell out of him for a few minutes.

Re: Klitschko-Chambers this weekend, anyone else excited?
I'd be more excited if it was on TV but the NCAA basketball tournament and the fight being in Germany made that impossible.
I think Eddie Chambers is very well prepared for Wladimir but I figure he'll clam up and the fight will end in 3-5 rounds. Wlad fights tall (unlike Dimitrenko), Wlad throws straight punches (unlike Peter), and Wlad doesn't lose rounds or leave himself open to counter (unlike Povetkin).
Eddie Chambers isn't like Chris Byrd...Eddie BLOCKS punches, Chris would make guys MISS and that is the difference, not that Wlad had much trouble with Byrd either time. Wlad will outmuscle Eddie Chambers and I think because Eddie basically has 1 semi-dangerous punch (the left...it's quick, straight, and has pop) and he's apparently going to try and pressure Wladimir...I just think Chambers' plan (if that is his plan) and his skill set don't pair very well vs what Wlad brings to the ring.
When the 1st cross lands Chambers will go down and I think it'll only be a matter of time after that. There WILL be a KO, you can bet on that. Chambers isn't mobile enough or slick enough to avoid Wlad's punches and when nothing is coming back, Wlad will load up.
-
Re: Klitschko-Chambers this weekend, anyone else excited?
I don't see any way this fight is even competitive. As I'm sure others have said, as soon as Chambers gets a taste of Klitschko's power and realizes that he can't put a dent in the champion, he's going to stop taking chances and fight defensively in order to survive as long as possible.
-
Re: Klitschko-Chambers this weekend, anyone else excited?
not excited but would love chambers to win

*********
That's not the reason the arrogant Ross Greenburg gave to the press. Vlad still has the soft chin and the hard hands so his fights always have a chance to be very exciting.
I'll have to wait until tomorrow to see it though-it's on tape delay at 10 am because of the time difference here in the Philippines.

Re: Klitschko-Chambers this weekend, anyone else excited?
Watching Wladimir Klitschko fights has become sort of like over-drinking for me. I know it's bad for me... and I suffer from a huge hangover the day after... and I swear I'll never do it again as long as I live... BUT...
... next time there's a party I go back and do it all over again.
