Actually its just starting now but i don't know, if i'll be able to watch it. Because its very late here now, might download it tomorrow im getting very tired.
I tried watchin it while also watching the abraham dirrel fight. I felt like guzman took the first two rounds, a 10-8 in the fourth and maybe won the 11th or 12th...I felt like he wasn't doing enough really in the last rounds to get them , mostly running/walking away from funeka, lederman gave like the last four to guzman. Funeka should have definitely gotten the decision just to say "f you" to guzman for comin in 9pounds over weight, and funeka getting screwed in the first fight.
I'll do a RBR aswell actually for aslong as i can stay away ;)
Round 1
Ok here we go guys/girls Joan Guzman starts out circling, not much happening. Ali Funeka trying to get the jab working, Guzman with a jab to the body. Guzman with another jab to the body, followed by a right up top. Funeka missing with the jab, can't find the range as of yet. Guzman going to the body with the jab mostly, attmpted lunging left hook blocked by Funeka, Guzman with a right hook to the body. Funeka can't seem to find the range yet, Guzman making him miss. Both men exchange good punches. Funeka with a right hand over the top, finding the range a bit better. Guzman with an uppercut then a shot to the body.
Guzman wins a close tactical round.
Guzman 10-9
Round 2
Guzman with a double right hook, again being elusive making Fuenka miss. Lovely body work by Guzman, making Funeka miss. And making him pay on the inside, Funeka with a right hook the body. Guzman returns with a body shot of his own, Guzman with the uppercuts on the inside. Seems similar to the first fight so far, both men exchange punches on the inside. Guzman making Funeka miss with excellent upper body movement. Right hand from Funeka, nice right hook by Guzman. Left hooks from both men, clubbing right from Guzman.
Guzman wins the first two rounds just like the first fight.
20-18 Guzman
Round 3
Guzman almost trips over lol, not much else to report at the moment. No punches landed so far. Right hand from Funeka, left hook counter from Guzman. Guzman gets warned for holding on the ropes then trying to punch, Funeka with the jabs. Guzman missing with his trademark right hand, double jab from Funeka. Guzman defending well, right hook to the body from Guzman. Lovely defensive work from Guzman, left hook from Funeka. Body shots from Funeka, left hook from Funeka.
Just like the 1st fight, Funeka turns it around in the 3rd round.
29-28
Funeka's round.
Ok guys im off to bed now lol peace.
He probably deserved the decision, or at least a case could be made that he did. I was so disgusted with him and the ridiculous showboating he did throughout the fight that I lost any real interest in what was probably a very entertaining fight. Guzman is a piece of shit, he acted like a piece of shit from the weigh-in to the end of the fight, and I hope he never gets another big payday. I also hope that Funeka gets to fight for the vacant belt again. He deserves it.
How in the hell did Funeka lose? He's like a foot taller than Guzman...
Guzman outboxed him with the gameplan he should have had in the first fight.
he deserved the nod.
Him coming in 8 pounds overweight is not erased by it.
Yes he won, but it's a victory that means nothing right now.
He needs to retire or move up to 140, or maybe even 147 after tonight.
Guzman knocked Funeka down and won the fight pretty easily.
Of course not trying to make weight surely aided him.
But so did good boxing skills and a good game plan.
Def wasn't a fair fight though.
A meaningless win, but that is no slur on Funeka who I really like. I used to like Guzman, but he is now on my loath list.
Guzman proved that last time he was clearly affected by the busted nose, cuts and inactivity...
oh yeah and the weight cheating thing helped this time.
Obviously the weight helped somewhat, but i think it was more due to. Joan Guzman fighting a better fight, he gave Ali Funeka more angles. His upper body movement was better tonight. And he wasn't so flat flooted, which is why Ali Funeka couldn't find the range with his jab, i had Joan Guzman winning by a few rounds. Its good to see Joan Guzman comeback well, i've been a big Joan Guzman fan for ages now.
Just been speaking to Lee Beards mate about Guzmans weight and he said that Guzman was about 160lbs when he came to the UK. They had him running twice daily, Kerry Kayes had him on the protein shakes, he was eating very little, but the weight just wouldnt come off. He has obviously well outgrown the division and some.
I also got told that he lost 11lbs before the weigh-in, and that Kerry had Guzman in the sauna, but Joan was drinking water whilst he was in there and came out 1lbs heavier than when he went in. :o;D
Saying the weight help somewhat is an understatement. You had someone come in at lightweight vs someone come in at welterweight on the scales. That's 2 weight classes apart, not to mentioned Guzman could have put on 10+ pounds on fight night, plus Guzman came in fresh and didn't have to boil down like Funeka.
Let's be honest now those actions seems to be premeditated for an advantage inside the ring. There's a reason why we have weight classes here and the fighters have to abide by the rules.
guzman more than made up for the controversial 1st fight
I had him winning by a good 3-4 rounds, the perfect gameplan to rough up funeka and this time around not allow funeka to get the opening exchanges in.
Guzmans power at times is just frightening
Guzman can suck shit imo.
The guy gets no credit from me for winning.
I think people are being harsh on Joan Guzman, forgetting the weight here for a second. He looked alot better and he fought a better fight, and that has nothing to do with the weight.
I didn't see people giving Floyd Mayweather Jr, this much slack over his weight. Against a much smaller JMM, atleast Joan Guzman was against a guy who physically. Beats him in every department.
Where as Floyd Mayweather Jr, had all the advantages over JMM. And i think it was more to do with a better gameplan rather than the weight. I am not saying it is right about the weight, but it's been happening quite alot recently.
Especially in the other fight i just mentioned, and Joan Guzman should still get credit for getting back in the ring, with a guy who is a freak of nature being 6'0 Lightweight, and winning pretty convincing, and i hope to see Joan Guzman in the future.
He has better reaction time than Funeka we knew that in the first fight. It wasn't until his nose busted up and he had a hard time breathing that he slowed down. Guzman didn't really do anything beyond what he was expected to do in the first fight. Add to that his punch output IMO was lower than it should have been. The knockdown was a good punch and he shutdown Funeka, but there was a lot of room for him to capitalize where he didn't and instead chose to taunt and pose.
Guzman moved much more in this fight and was in control the whole time. Again, for the millionth time, the busted nose and lack of recent action were big factors in the first fight, but also this time he knew what to expect.
I think he'd beat Funeka nine times out of ten but obviously, giving up $25,000 of his purse, he (his team) made sure he would be at his strongest. And the weight takes the shine of the victory bigtime.
I know that Guzman's manager was trying to lay blame on Lee Beard for the weight, but Lee in turn had left the weight issue in the hands of Kerry Kayes. Kerry had said that he would be able to get the weight off. I think there came a point where Joan just basically gave up trying to lose the weight, knowing he couldnt shift it.
I know Guzman was very happy the way Lee had trained him. He also said that Lee was responsible for making him plant his feet and throw his shots with power which is something they had worked on. Guzman admitted that previously he'd been guilty of slapping a bit with his punches in fear he would damage his brittle hands. I'd expect to see Guzman stay with Lee after this fight, because overall he was very happy technique wise with what Lee had shown him.
the weight has a lot to do with it. he didnt have to kill himself to get to 135. he had a nine pound advantage on the scales. i dont think anybody should give him credit considering he didnt even try to make weight. he missed the contracted weight not by 1 or 2 pounds but by 9 pounds. 2 weight classes man. and the guy walks around the ring like hes the shit.
Guzman should not be allowed to fight in any other class below welter. This weight crap with him is kinda getting ridiculous. Sorry so late to reply i just realized how far over this dude was. I look at the outcome of the fight a little different now...
Well in that case all 3 of those guys take a hit. Tactics aside, that was the most unprofessional BS of all time right there and the accountability falls on the fighter and the trainer.
What if Funeka was allowed to weigh the same? How different would it have been? It's bullshit and you can go back in time and see I'm a big fan of Guzman but holy shit, 9 pounds!!!!! That's not heavyweights or even cruiserweights it's lightweight! How can anyone say people are being to harsh? The fight result shouldn't even count.
