Why no habla Maidana?
I thought Maidana had a very good performance this weekend against the awkward Cayo. Maidana is not the most skilled boxer out there, but you can notice him dialing his punches in and adapting in every fight. Anyone else see it?

Re: Why no habla Maidana?
Dirrell is a shit actor, why can't he just be a man and get up like a man and fight instead of rolling round like... oh wait... wrong thread

I have a thing or two to tell you about PEDs.

Re: Why no habla Maidana?
Can't see Golden Boy putting Khan in with Maidana for a very long time if ever, for my money Maidana would ko Khan within 5 rounds.

Mayweather needs to stop thinking he's bigger than boxing.

Re: Why no habla Maidana?
Have not watched the fight yet. Plan on watching it tonight, but i agree with you Skel, i can't see Khan fighting him either.

Maidana gets the shaft, short end against Kotelnik, Khan won't fight him. You'll be seeing more of Maidana which is what I like, if he doesn't get a huge payday fight, he just books a good fight and takes it. The "elite" could take a page out of his book IMO. I think he will struggle against both Bradley and Alexander, even Urango might have some big success because Marcos is so hittable, BUT The rest of the field at 140 would have huge difficulties with him the guy is a tank.
-
Re: Why no habla Maidana?
With Maidana, I'm of the opinion he swings too much that the best guys at 140, Bradley, Alexander & Khan will all catch him off balance and take him out. I'd even favour Ortiz in a rematch. However, he's never in a bad fight, not even against Kotelnik, so hope he gets a few more fights to give him some exposure and he can stick around and get the shots he deserves.
-
Re: Why no habla Maidana?
You either stop him
Or he stops you:p

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is ducking Ricky Hatton.

Re: Why no habla Maidana?
I love watching Maidana fight. He's a limited fighter with porous defense and a great chin, but he's got a ton of heart, a ton of power, and I get the impression he'd fight his own grandma if he could gather a half-dozen people to watch it. He's going to keep building up his name and the big guys will be forced to fight him at some point.
The fight against Cayo was very interesting. Watching Maidana deal with a fast-handed, awkward, and defensively competent fighter (albeit an unproven one) only increased my opinion of him. The body shot that ended the fight was deadly.
Unfortunately, I think he'll be exposed by the elite of 140, but with his power anything is possible, especially against a guy like Khan. I think Alexander and Bradley would absolutely dominate him though.

That body shot was brutal watching Cayo trying to stretch out the pain was very telling.

Re: Why no habla Maidana?
I think Bradley and Alexander beat him but he's got a puncher's chance against both. The longer it went on, the closer he'd be getting to them. The Cayo fight was like the Ortiz fight in that it took him a few rounds to get his range but once he did he was landing massive punches. If he could walk through everything Bradley and Alexander threw at him he'd eventually start landing on them too but I'd still pick them over him. I think he beats everybody else at 140, Khan included.

Re: Why no habla Maidana?
porque no puedo hablar espaƱol
maidana could be following the footsteps of pacquiao. limited exciting fighter as a start.
-
Re: Why no habla Maidana?
Poor Cayo, a flawed yet talented fighter who had a ton of heart, he was gone in the last round. Maidana never panicked, he attacked smartly and crudely at the same time if that's possible, and he got the job done. Cayo was going to be put away soon in that fight, the body shot was just perfect icing on the cake though. Even though Cayo isn't the same caliber as Ortiz imo, I think it was as good if not better of a performance.
-
Re: Why no habla Maidana?
For the moment, Maidana seems on a super roll, limited abilities perhaps but it seems that he has enough of everything to flat down some of the top guys. Not sure if he'll ever be a greatness but he really deserve some high profile fights and as it has been said here, peoples won't be able to duck him eternally.
-
Re: Why no habla Maidana?
I like Maidana. A fight with Alexander would be a bad career move at least right now. It would turn out like the Urango fight. I prefer Urango for Maidana. That's what you call a war.
Why is his name "Chino"?

Iv'e not seen him fight yet but that comment has me thinking of Mayorga for some reason ???

Re: Why no habla Maidana?
Maidana is definitely a good fighter, but I dont think you can take too much away from the Cayo TKO. Cayo just seemed way to green in there and would have gotten dominated by any top 140. Maidana would take too many shots from Bradley, but I guess he always has that punchers chance....

Cayo was a very good fight for him in fact a lot of people picked Cayo to win. The problem with Maidana is that Khan has already ducked him, Bradley and Alexander are on to greener pastures, so he won't even get a shot at any of those guys. Bradley's next fight is at Welter so we'll see if he even comes back down.

Re: Why no habla Maidana?
Marcos Rene Maidana vs Mike Alvarado sounds like a reailstic fight to me.

I thought they were exploring a fight between Maidana and Alexander?

I hope you're right, but I'd imagine they will put Alexander in against someone that puts more asses in the seats like Malignaggi, Juan Diaz maybe even Victor Ortiz (although I'd be shocked if GBP puts him in). The fight that really needs to happen is Alexander/Bradley

Re: Why no habla Maidana?
youve got to love maidana, he is just so old school
Even in the early rounds when cayo was using his speed and reach to his advantage, maidana just refused to take his foot of the pedal and let the boxing do the work constantly trading with the dangerous cayo.
I didnt see it happening 4rounds in but eventually cayo faded out as he couldnt keep up with the pace.
Best body shot of 2010 for sure

Re: Why no habla Maidana?
i have a special place in my heart for body shot knockouts...
this one was great.
Better than the Bute v. Andrade one. maybe.

Re: Why no habla Maidana?
Enjoyed the fight... Maidana should dominate the division for some time to come. I also couldn't help noticing how Maidana seems to fit the mold of most Argentinian fighters. Tough, burly, hard-punching, not very smooth style. It makes for exciting fights. You rarely see a boring chess match of a fight when an Argentinian is involved.
Hey... how 'bout Maidana-Hatton?
-
Re: Why no habla Maidana?
from what I saw Saturday, Kahn would outbox him and maybe stop him. With as many openings as he has and the times he gets tagged with the way Khan fights now I could see him beating him.
-
Re: Why no habla Maidana?
I like Maidana and that was an exciting fight and a good win over an undefeated fighter.
But that said, I mean how hard is it to KO a dumbass who doesn't keep his hands up...like...at all ?
Cayo kept his hands at his waist the entire fight and had absolute SHIT defense.

I cannot see Khan beating Maidana. Khan does have hand speed and boxing skills to do the job but after seeing the firepower that this guy has I expect Khan to be knocked out in savage fashion.
-
Re: Why no habla Maidana?
To me when Khan boxes on the outside he seems unsure of himself and more venerable. I noticed this moreso in the Kotelnik fight then others. I thought Khan would have a good chance before, I don't think he would win now though.
-
Re: Why no habla Maidana?
Not sure how he'd do against Khan now. The longer he keeps winning, the more he impresses me. He is what he is, and his bulldozer approach could have Khan feeling uncomfortable and looking vulnerable. On the other hand, Khan could stop him quite early as Maidana leaves himself wide open when he throws his wide shots.

I can tell you what. No way Golden Boy puts Khan in with Maidana after what Maidana did to their last prospect (Victor Ortiz). Don't be surprised to see Khan move up to welterweight pretty soon so that he can bid his time filling out fighting tune ups and fringe contenders.

Re: Why no habla Maidana?
Alexander vs Maidana is Being Discussed For August - Boxing News
I don't see what Maidana's people are thinking, putting him in there with Alexander. He's beat two unbeaten prospects in the last year. He deserves a pay day. He should fight Paulie after Khan, which would build up the Maidana-Khan fight.
-
Re: Why no habla Maidana?
GBP are paying Maidana a lot of money to not fight Khan and force the mandatory. That tells you all you need to know.

Re: Why no habla Maidana?
No habla cause he's too big of a risk for any of the top guys. It sucks that the rankings are absolutly worthless and fighters and promoters can pick and choose (even though only one fighter get's blamed for what they all do). He really doesn't bring anything to the table right now except that he's a pretty bad ass dude that wins. Walk around town and just say his name and people will think you're cussing at them. Outside of us no one knows who the hell he is. Sucks cause that shouldn't matter. I say alexander beats his ass though. But i'd root for both guys if they fought

To be fair he's been on HBO a few times now and always puts on a good show. People will remember his performances against Ortiz and Cayo (Assuming they tuned in, in the first place)

Can someone answer why they call him "Chino"? Is he of Chinese origin?

He just looks Chinese, it's a cultural thing. He actually looks like he's Thai to me.

So, what you are saying if I follow, is that it is like white people in the US referring to all Latinos as Mexicans...
