Someone please explain to me why Allan Green is in this tournament

I'm racking my brain here and the only reason I can come up with is because they couldn't find anyone else to do it. I can't find one legitiment contender Green has faced since getting embarrased by Miranda. If I'm wrong, please let me know. Also, I don't think he stands a chance. U gotta eat some meat to win this thing Allan, NO VEGETARIANS ALLOWED!

I'm not sure either, I thought Lucian Bute was the obvious choice.

Probably something to do with networks?

The dude from Cameroon backed out of his fight with Green,

AND,

Bute, Pavlik, Paul Williams, and Sergio Martinez have HBO contracts/HBO has significant interest in them.

Short answer: Green is in as opposed to Bute, et al because of a power play by HBO.

Green has the same promoter as Jermain Taylor.

How quickly you all forget, Bute opted out of the tourney for his rematch with Andrade. Bute was not going to come into the tourney without a chance of point in the first fight.

Green was made an alternate as he was the highest ring rated 168, that agreed to sign off on it. This was established at the beginning of the tourney. Rumors began to spread about a showdown between Green and Bika for the spot, but they were just rumors.

So that's why.

This is correct. Green was always the runner up because Bute wanted the Andrade fight more. The only thing to add is that Showtime scheduled a fight for entrance to the tournament between Bika and Green, but Bika backed out for undisclosed reasons.

Plus Bute will get to pick and choose easy fights while the winner of the tournament will have just gone through 5 wars!

As stated above, showtime wanted to fill the spot with an American fighter(since showtime is largely an American network).

Also Green was supposed to fight Bika, and the winner would get the spot, but Bika inexplicably rejected the fight, and the slot was awarded to Green.

Also, it looks like HBO is grooming Bute for a fight against Kelly Pavlik.

The bigger fights are the fights that are taking place right now in the super six.

Bute is out in the wilderness in much the same way as Chris John was for years. Andre Ward would have an easy night's work with him and Abraham and Froch both knock him out. Kessler beats him and Dirrell outslicks him imo.

As you can tell I'm not a fan. Beating Andrade is only slightly better than Green beating Tarvis Simms.

I don't know why your not a fan Bilbo, yes some people probably did go over the top regarding the Librado Andrade rematch. But im not a bandwagon jumper.

I've been a Lucian Bute fan for quite awhile now, i can show you a thread from ages ago, where i said Lucian Bute was the darkhorse of the division.

From what i've read Lucian Bute doesn't sound like a bad guy, outside the ring. And he's had some good underrated wins, which i've told you about before. And he's exciting and he's also up to this point, willing to fight anyone.

I don't see what's not to like Bilbo personally, but thats your opinion if you don't like him i can't change your mind. But i think he will suprise you in the next few years.

Ward and Dirrell are just horrible. "Son of god"...like what the fuck does that even mean? Ward is a tit and I hope he gets crucified like the bull head that he is. As for Dirrell, Abraham wil get him next time.

I really dislike these two and will be willing every other opponent on. It is convenient that they are facing each other next. It was pretty well scripted.

For me Ward is just incredibly over the top with the religious stuff but he's done nothing to be thought of as a bad guy.

Come to think of it neither has Dirrell. Being annoyed with the guy inside the ring is different from him getting in trouble outside of the ring.

The Euros on the other hand are really classy. For example, Abraham likes to hit people who are kneeling down (possibly in the middle of their prayers.)

This tournament is bringing up such interesting matchups as far as who do I hate more.

Who am I going to root for when Froch-Abraham happens? Who do I hate less? I think I hate Froch less, shockingly.

What if Allan Green and Abraham fight? My head might explode from a hate implosion. I literally don't think I could decide who I hate less.

I am a Bute fan for a long time now, have seen up evolving since he's in Quebec, just I did with Dorin, Alcine, Pascal (which I dislike) and even to a lesser extend with Jo-jo Dan. In a very objective way, I don't see why Bute would lose against all of those you did mention Bilbo, before against Kessler I would have called it a tough tough fight but now, not sure anymore that I wouldn't put my money on Bute. Froch or Dirrell? I would make any bet he's smoking them off their shoes any time of the day, Corner wise or based on sheer talent. Ward could be trickier because of his speed but then again, I don't see why Bute wouln't have his chance. I don't mind somebody not being a fan and hating him (why not, we all hate a boxer or another) but you can't say the guy has absolutely no talent and deserves to fight second degree opponents.

Dirrell maybe, if you take away the ridiculous acting fight after fight. I`ll give my opinion on ward once i see him in a fight with froch or kessler where he isnt given the advantage of being allowed to use his head all night.

Pascal deserves to be in this tournament. He beats bute and green out of sight if you ask me

Lol...people are all entitled to thier own opinion but we all must realize, the only thing any of us know about any of these guys are what the media shows you on t.v. Calzaghe is a crackhead and everyone loves him, ward is a church boy and people hate that too ??!!! Who gives a crap what these guys do outside of thier perfomances inside the ring. Far as ward he's beat everyone put in front of him, if he reads the bible or sacrafices virgin goats outside of it shouldn't matter to anyone. This is boxing not the cub scouts. None of you here knows what butte or any of these guys do or act when the camera isn't on them. People hate floyd but i have a cousin who lives and works out at the same gym he does in vegas and says he's one of the nicest celebs he's ever met, but who cares about that either. We watch this sport to see these guys fight. Not plant tree's to save the earth and save homeless pregnet seals. The bottom line is can you beat them in the ring. That's all i look at. I wouldnt have made green my first choice but he's no worse than say froch who has fought absolutly no one outside of this tourny. And only beat another pretty much untested fighter in direll and most dont even think he won that. The tourny as a whole has been decent let green try and add to it. Why not. There was obviously no real qualifications when they choose the original six. Hell they put taylor in there and dude can barely stay awake long enough to complete a full twelve rounds. But since he lost and isn't a threat no one cared. Oh plus he supposidly is a nice guy. I find it hillarious that people are complaining about stuff like this while crap fights like hopkins/jones and ruiz/haye are going on and there are even those willing to watch that garbage. Look if the americans had all lost no one would care about any of this. Most anger should really be put towards abraham since he's the one that robbed himself and all of us of what might have been a great ending to thier fight. No one cause what happend there but him, where's all that hate for him ?

To address the thread title, after not being impressed by the idea of Green comin in originally, I've downloaded a few fights of his and now think he can throw a spanner in the works for sure. He's got the power to trouble Dirrell, 1ard and Froch no doubt IMO.

On a side note, I remember reading. Great article interview with Froch in Boxing News around the time the super six was announced. He talks it up but I think he's a straight talkin chap. He said the Bute needs to grows some bollocks. Take from that what you wish, although I'm sure Froch was in talks with him after Taylor and before the super six came around.

There's no debate, good, bad or indifferent Green was in the right place at the right time when there was supposed to be a long line ahead of him.

Green should've been in the tournament over Jermaine Taylor from the jump..



I'm gonna go against the grain here and say Green over Ward by knockout.
