if lennox lewis came out of retirement tommorow...
How well exactly would he fare..
Klitschkos a side i dont see a single fighter that would be able to live with even a completely shot lennox lewis. Theres no way in hell a prime haye/valuev/povetkin/arreola could take a 50% lennox lewis
Could Wlad handle the fading power, obviously the klitschkos against lewis would be completely unarmed of their superior height and reach and neither would be able to dominate lewis behind the jab like they do everyone else.
It was one of those questions spoke in a pub a few days ago. Even a fading lewis managed to stop a prime vitali in the 5th controversial or not.
Would Wlad stand a chance against the power
Could vitali expose the weaknesses he managed to expose in his prime
would haye stand a single chance of perhaps catching lewis with a rahman esque knockout punch
???????????????????????

Re: if lennox lewis came out of retirement tommorow...
Been gone too long - old and fat - and would get beaten (even by Haye)

Yeah - I would have to agree, unless he has been training hard there is no way he comes back and has a significant impact. I guess there is always the chance he lands a KO punch.

Re: if lennox lewis came out of retirement tommorow...
The Lewis era is over. Coming back would be a cruel mistake and he would get hurt.
-
Re: if lennox lewis came out of retirement tommorow...
Lewis wasn't wupping Klitschko and it only got stopped because of a freakish injury. More than likely a returning Lewis gets bent over by either Klitschko and there's a good chance Haye hurts him as well. He's only 2 inches shorter. Briggs hurt a prime Lewis and Haye would do much better.
-
Re: if lennox lewis came out of retirement tommorow...
I watched his fight with Klitschko fight again the other day. Now it seems shocking to watch someone slap klitscko around and make him look ordinary.
-
Re: if lennox lewis came out of retirement tommorow...
Lewis could beat most heavies accept the top tier until he get some conditioning and then he may stand a good chances against Wlad.

Totally agree. Out far too long and way too old. It would be a bit sad.

Sorry but Haye would Knock out a old fading Lewis within 4 rounds mate, without a doubt.

Re: if lennox lewis came out of retirement tommorow...
I would never condone lewis returning to a boxing ring and quite frankly it would probably make me feel ill.
But just out of pure curiosity, if lennox lewis could return as half the man he once was would that still be enough to take the klitschkos and the rest.
A prime lennox lewis wouldnt have a single problem taking out either brother, if you dont know that then you obviously dont know much of lennox lewis or heavyweight boxing. Im just wondering what with the division being in the state it is could half that fighter (lets say the very man who looked completely shot against vitali) return tommorow how exactly would he get on.

Re: if lennox lewis came out of retirement tommorow...
He's been living large too long!

Re: if lennox lewis came out of retirement tommorow...
He'd still be fat and still a below average boxing commentator.

Re: if lennox lewis came out of retirement tommorow...
...he'd wake up on saturday and think, what a stupid dream. lennox is right where he should be.
-
Re: if lennox lewis came out of retirement tommorow...
I think a lot of you guys are either grossly over estimating Lewis' abilities at this point in his life, or are grossly underestimating the HW division.
Lewis comes back and he gets killed by anyone in the top 20 IMO. He's 45 years old and he hasn't fought in 7 years. And he was SHOT in that last fight, 7 years ago. What the hell do you expect of him now?
-
Re: if lennox lewis came out of retirement tommorow...
Fighting the belt holders today, I think he would win all the belts back, and then hand in the WBA because he no wanna fight John Ruiz. After April 3rd, he would win all the belts, except the WBA. Ruiz would crush Lewis.
-
Re: if lennox lewis came out of retirement tommorow...
I really hope he does come back, so when he gets a big fight you crazy folk can drive up the odds on him to win, so I can bet against him and make a fortune.
-
Re: if lennox lewis came out of retirement tommorow...
Give Lennox a quick 4 week camp and he beats 90% of the heavies out there, 45 and fat or not.
K brothers and Haye would really be the only challenges.
They couldnt even fill a super 6 Shotime tourney with that division! It's filled with stiffs.
-
Re: if lennox lewis came out of retirement tommorow...
it would be a mistake ,and it would mean his money had gone that is the only reason lennox would come back

Lennox would not comeback for 100 million...He has too much class for that....
As for the Vitaly exposing him in his prime....Lewis was past his prime and knew it that is why he retired so he did not end up a sad champion trying to hold on for a glory moment he exited the sport with grace...Wish more fighters did that...
As for the rest of it...If This was Lennox via 200-2003 all names mentioned askide from the Klitschkos would have been retired by the Lion

This whole "John Ruiz is God" gimmick is whack, fam. John Ruiz is a sub-par champion at best. Easily one of the worst heavyweight belt holders of all time. He would've never had a belt if it weren't for the multitude of BS sanctions.

2000-2003 was the back 9 for Lewis. His prime, IMHO, was from the second McCall fight to the Tua fight. It was after the Tua fight that he lost his focus a little. The Vitali fight let Lewis know that he was done. Lennox knew what he would have done to Vitali at this best. Lewis from 1996-2000 wins a comfortable UD over Vitali and KO's Wlad. Haye might have gotten killed.

his reflexes had gone the night he thought vitali, but his power was still there hence the reason he landed huge shots so often and busted his face up. Vitali was a mess after 5rounds, id be surprised as hell if a prime lewis doesnt knock vitali on his arse early doors during his prime days.
Such a shame lewis didnt come along 5-6 years later as the heavyweight division would be in a hell of a lot better state than the mess its in now. Saying that he would of had the same problem vitali currently has where however good he looks he isnt in with any live competition

....I would think it is more shocking to watch that fight and see someone actually COMPETE with a Klitschko. That hasn't been done....hell since Lamon Brewster's first fight with Wlad and that was more just Lamon being durable than anything else.

Agreed he would have the same problem as the Klitschko brothers do now...Soo many bad opponents out there that no matter what they do they get little credit for...
I have an idea!!!!!!
How about the Brothers get some sort of Achievement title...They get a huge!!! Sum of money from all the sactioning bodies and promoters to retire.....
At least if it is a bunch of slobs against each other it can be a bit more entertaining then the one sided Red headed step child beat downs these two administer bout after bout

Thank you LU... someone needs to go back and clear up their memory.
If Lewis really came back--Wlad first, then Vit 2nd. He's beat everyone he ever faced... he'll only need but 1-2 tune-ups (the rest of the division).
And for the record... Lewis was supposed to fight Kirk Johnson and he pulled out 2 weeks before the fight. Ten days before the fight he was 'mandated' to fight Vitali or lose his last title (WBC)... how do you make the champ fight someone ten days out?
So he had less than 2 weeks to change from a 6'2" boxer/puncher to a 6'8" puncher w a jab...
As always, the picture is not as clear as we would like to think. Seems like he did a pretty good job, considering...

He is one of the most skilled heavyweights of all time....He had precisions accuracy when wanted....He hit like a sledge hammer....Took a good shot....was stopped twice in fights he under trained for and avenged both losses by stoppage....

Re: if lennox lewis came out of retirement tommorow...
#1 There's no way in hell Lennox comes back and beats either Klitschko #2 Lennox may not have been a "lumbering oaf" but he most certainly was lazy in more than his fair share of fights

That Lazy fighter beat every man he ever faced in probably the second best era of HW boxing....
He wasn't so gun shy he flinches at the cutman ALA Wlad
He sure as hell would not have gone 12 rounds with Kevin Johnson

#1 I never said Lennox wasn't good it's simply the FACT he's older, he's been out of boxing for some time now and boxers seldom improve with age and 4+ year layoffs
#2 His era had very good fighters but Lennox took his time getting to Evander and Tyson. And there were a couple fighters he simply didn't fight, not that he ducked anyone at any point in time but they simply didn't fight. And there was a rematch with Ray Mercer that didn't happen.
#3 Wlad can't control his era he can only beat those brave enough to step in the ring with him
#4 If a fighter just comes to "last 12 rounds" then it's difficult to get the KO no matter who you are or who you're facing.
.....and you can take that smart ass remark of yours about Wlad flinching at the cutman and post it at Eastside because stupid shit like that shouldn't come from a poster like you.
End rant
-
Re: if lennox lewis came out of retirement tommorow...
I'm tempted to go with the crowd that says Lennox would clean up the HW division, except for the Klitschkos. But the sad fact is that Lennox has been away from boxing FAR too long, and has no business coming back (although who could blame him, when you hear of blokes like Holyfield and Botha still fighting).
But the fact that this would even be a topic of discussion speaks volumes about the sorry-ass state of the HW division nowadays. I have to laugh when the HW defenders start to dredge up the dreadful list of nobodies, have-beens, and never-will-be's in order to try to make the point that the HW division isn't that bad.
News flash: It's beyond bad. It absolute reeks.

When he got tagged, it was because he overestimated his ability to avoid punches and dropped his hands. He got sloppy and arrogant.
Watch Morrison fight and compare his movements then to his movement in the Vitali fight.
