Who had quicker hands combined with power? PART TWO
After clearly leaving out some key names here's an updated one...
-
Re: Who had quicker hands combined with power? PART TWO
I think it's either one of the Sugar Ray's or Roy Jones, and here is my reasoning:
Pernell is obviously out of this because he didn't have much power to begin with, but he was super fast. So, i think the point of this thread is to say, who has THAT kind of speed but also KO power. That speed is highly above average.
Roy jones was SO fast and he was KO'ing guys.. granted he may not have had the BEST opposition early to mid career, but he was still supernatural.
Tyson was huge and very fast for his size, but i don't think it's fair to include a heavyweight in this due to their shear size. so that also disqualifies Ali/shavers..
both of the sugar rays packed a lot of power, but were really known for their speed. thus putting them on the top.

Re: Who had quicker hands combined with power? PART TWO
Sugar Ray Robinson without a doubt because it wasn't just speed and it wasn't power only but leverage.
-
Re: Who had quicker hands combined with power? PART TWO
From what I have seen I'd say Roy jones.might be wrong as never shared a ring with any of them

Re: Who had quicker hands combined with power? PART TWO
Sorry why is pernell up there? He didn't have very much power, and he didn't have truly elite speed either? It's unfair pitting him against guys like RJJ and the like.
Even Mayweather who was faster than Pernell shouldn't be up there because he doesn't have the combination of both power and speed.
Where is Pacquiao?

Floyd isn't up there..and I left pac out because manny pacfanboys would have clouded the poll

Re: Who had quicker hands combined with power? PART TWO
Why is WHitaker up there and Floyd isn't? He both is faster and hits harder than Pernell WHitaker and he wouldn't even win this... thus making WHitaker a confusing choice.

Don't think floyd hits as hard as those guys, esp with his brittle hands. And you're right Sweet pea probably shouldn't be up there, but there are several guys that could have been up there..Arguello, foster, trinidad, judah, GMAN, toney, etc... ..but this isn't an hypothetical "All time" poll, its just a question asking of those listed, Who had quicker hands combined with power?...

Re: Who had quicker hands combined with power? PART TWO
You forgot Hands of Stone in your list. At lightweight he had speed and power, especially more so the latter.
-
Re: Who had quicker hands combined with power? PART TWO
in my opinion nobody has ever thrown punches as fast as RJJ , certainly not with the kind of power he possessed. ( this judgement is based on him as i have seen him fight ).

Re: Who had quicker hands combined with power? PART TWO
the polls even more retarded than the last one
Youve replaced floyd mayweather with mike tyson and still left out pacquiao??

Maybe I should put in hatton? I didn't leave out anyone as if he "should" be included. It's a simple question being asked about those particular fighters. Certain guys were left out for a reason. I could just post a thread asking who has the quickest hands combined with power if I wanted to hear everyone's alltime opinion, but I limited it to avoid that.

Re: Who had quicker hands combined with power? PART TWO
Floyd should of been there if Pernell is there. Pac too ;)
Maybe you could do a part III :p

Where is Pacquiao?
Pernell Whitaker had underrated power, its just he didn't normally plant his feet. Because he was just looking to land fast shots with no power. Then use his brillant defensive skills to avoid punches, one example of his power was against Diosbelys Hurtado, that was one of the most brutal KO's i've ever seen.

Floyd Mayweather Jr had very good pop, at Super Featherweight. Also ODLH was a big puncher with good handspeed, at the lower weightclasses aswell. I also think Edwin Rosario had good handspeed, and his KO ratio speaks for itself.

Re: Who had quicker hands combined with power? PART TWO
Again Sugar Ray Robinson easily.

This why Mayweather and WHitaker shouldn't be up there because they didn't possess elite power.
I am surprised Hearns' isn't up there, I think his speed was way up there and his power at WW was p4p as elite as anyone as I can think of. It wasn't the type of power that looked good on a punching bag, but he had the kind of snap that could render almost anyone unconscious.
Also I think its super unfair to not have Manny up there, for a guy who still about a lightweight in size to be outpunching/outpowering some of the biggest/strongest guys at welterweight is an awsome feat that any competent boxing fan should admire. I agree as a welterweight he probably doesn't ahve the one punch power of some guys, but imo his power would be up there with SRL and Mosley, and he is just as fast. I just think its his tenacity that separates him offensively from these guys. Leonard and Mosley had/have a very difficult time both being the warrior and the boxer simultaneously while Manny does it effortlessly, and I believe he works harder in the gym.

Re: Who had quicker hands combined with power? PART TWO
Roy Jones Jr.
Blistering hand speed combined with knockout power.
-
Re: Who had quicker hands combined with power? PART TWO
Roy Jones..
Ray Leonard was faster than him, but not as powerful. Roy had the best combination of speed and power.
-
Re: Who had quicker hands combined with power? PART TWO
i say rjj
shane and hamed had both quick hands plus pop too but since i can only pick one im going with rjj.
-
Re: Who had quicker hands combined with power? PART TWO
RJJ.
I still dont get why people are argueing over who should and shouldn't be in the poll, as JonesJrMayweather pretty clearly explained what the point of the thread was.
