Berto vs. Quintana Fight Talk

Not a bad two fight card this weekend with Caballero vs. Yordan and Berto vs. Quintana.

Quintana I believe it the biggest opponent Berto has faced yet, although Berto is heavily favored Quintana always has the element of possible upset if he can get his timing dialed, this would be especially effective against Berto that relies on handspeed for pretty much every situation. Of course if Quintana's timing is off or if he tries to sit down on that straight left too much Berto's going to look spectacular.

I am going with Berto decision. Quintana doesnt have enough in the tank (probably never did) to take a guy like Berto...If Quintana can box slick and move like he did in first williams fight he can at least make it the whole fight but Berto's flashy combos will get him decision.

I'll say berto knocks him out with one of those damn uppercuts.

I think Berto is good enough to beat Quintana and Quintana is good enough to avoid getting KOd by Berto. And I'm going for Caballero too.

Berto by knockout faster than expected.

Berto TKO in the 8th.

Quintana takes him to school.

Berto, there are simply too many elements stacked up in his favor.

Berto by late stoppage.

Berto by UD. But Quintana will make this a competitive fight. Quintana is a good measuring stick. How this fight goes we'll see if Berto has come of age and finalized any last grooming.

It must be said we don't know where Berto's mind is at, he's just been through a terrible tragedy.

Quintana for me. Although i'm usually terrible at picking fights.

Berto by shocking KO. He's going to do to Quintana what he did to that Mexican guy who wanted to be in Hollywood. Except Quintana doesn't have his chin.

Berto by decision. His fights have been measured lately and Quintana's style won't allow Berto much opportunity to sit down on most punches. Quintana is pretty slick but I say Berto by decision.

To me I think it is what Quintana has left after a devastating KO against Williamsand the beatdown from Cotto. He has had two fight's since the Williams loss but not that elite level. This is it for Berto if he beats Quintana in an impressive fashion he will be considered a star. I think Berto is ready and he will KO Quintana.

Berto to stop him late

I think Berto will stop him and look spectacular doing it. Then I'd like to see him batter Margarito in a similar deal to the B-Hop-RJJ one, only Berto is guaranteed the first $50m, with Margarito guaranteed the next 10 cents.

Marg could be on the contract that Roy Jones was allegedly on against Hopkins in their second fight.

i wanna know if berto wins who does he fight nextt? I wanted to see him against mosley bad..... Does anyone think that he's ready to take that next step? I know if he even fought pac man it would of been better than clottey sorry ass

We'll find out in this fight, Quintana is gonna be the biggest guy he will have faced to date and he's a southpaw, so there is much to be learned from his performance here in my opinion.

My issue with Berto is that I don't see any improvement from fight to fight, he doesn't look like he's learning anything. I see phenomenal hand speed, I see a decent chin, but that's always been there. His footwork isn't very good and his defense isn't that good either. Fortunately his hand speed has been able to get him through so far, but I'm just waiting for a mover to take him to school, Quintana could be that man if the planets align correctly. He's already taken the virginity of two undefeated "next best things" in Paul Williams and Joel Julio.

I think Berto needs this to be his eye grabbing break out win no doubt....was yearning for that Mosley fight too.But dont think the he could handle the Mosley that fought Margarito....IF Mosley beats Mayweather (clause?) and Berto looks solid,might see it.

Berto by stoppage. He won't dominate Quintana, but eventually he'll catch him with something he doesn't see coming.

Quintna can win this fight and I am choosing him to win by Decision. But, to achieve this he will need to dominate clearly because I believe that the judges will favor Berto (one more time) if the fight is close even if Quintana is winning. Quintana needs to connect some good punches early to gain Berto's respect although I see hard the KO because Berto has shown to have heart.

My question with Quintana is how his stamina will be in the late rounds now that he is moving back to 147. If he runs out of gas then, the story may be different.

It's tough to guage. It depends what Berto we see. I pick Shane to mash him if that fight had gone down. I hope Shane doesn't get old overnight. Berto has the goods but I don't want to see anymore fights like the Urango fight. That was just boring as shit. Granted Berto dominated but he has the ability to knock anyone in the division out. Berto needs to settle into a style. It's tough to call but if I had to say...

I think Berto gets beat by Manny by KO, Floyd by decision and Mosley by decision.

He can beat anyone else in the division. Fact.

It`ll be between 7-9, it wont be one of those ref stops the contest, corner calls it off deals. berto will knock him out cold

I don't think Berto can handle Quintina's movement and Quintina is very dangerous for Berto because Berto often has his hands chest high when coming forward. If Quintina sits on his punch it has power. But I think he doesn't know out Berto so Quintina by decision.

Quintana is good when he can stick and move and his opponent doesn't know how to attack his body or use a jab.

Julio came at him all wide shots and the straight shot he threw he dropped him with after that it was all winging and no setting up. Williams in the first fight all upstairs shots. Williams beat him in the rematch measuring distance and using a jab and trying to counter him. If there is anything Berto has its a jab straight shots and uppercuts, with a little defense in him. Barring a Urango performance I can see him beating quintana with relative ease.

Berto has the better speed, while I consider Quintana to be the better all-around boxer (Berto has been known to get pretty sloppy in there). Quintana also has the natural advantage of being a southpaw, which will work in his favor. If he has shaken the effects of the KOs by Williams and Cotto, and comes with his A-game as far as boxing is concerned, he might be able to surprise and upset Berto.

I really don't think Berto is all that, his performances haven't impressed me much.

I think he's a level below Floyd, Manny and Mosely.

I personally think he gets taken to school if he steps in with any of those guys, and knocked out too most likely.

I'm not sold on his chin or his toughness. He should win tonight but I think he'll make hard work of it.

Not sure why you question his chin, he's been caught off-balance quite a few times because he easily gets out of position when he gets carried away. I can't remember him actually ever looking hurt though.

I think he was a bit hurt vs Cosme Rivera, but other than that. He's always shown a solid enough chin, and he showed alot of heart vs Luis Collazo.

Where we can watch the fight?

I've got Berto stopping Quintana. I wouldn't be surprised with it going 12 though, with Berto being awarded a close but clear decision.

The undercard to this is now underway. Antwone Smith in against Franklin Gonzalez.

Smith's jab & left to the body looking good so far

Call me Nostradamus... Smith just dropped Gonzalez with a fantastic left to the body in the 3rd. This kid is really one of my favourite prospects right now, especially now my boy Adrien Broner looks headed for the pen.

It seems Smith might have cracked Gonzalez' rib with that shot. Badman.

Now Dominican Middleweight prospect Jonathan Cepeda up against Nigerian journeyman Shadrack Kipruto.

Cepeda has Kipruto down twice in the opening stanza. Cepeda looks good, but there's holes in his defence which need to get plugged or he'll be in trouble when he steps up.

Yeah, I had the same thing.

Cepeda just dropped Kipruto again in the 2nd with a peach of a left hook. Kipruto gets up and is dropped with another nice left. Ref stops it. Kipruto has great heart, still trying to get up at the end. Nice to see a journeyman who doesn't just show up for the paycheck.
