He has lost the plot in any event. Apparently his wife had multiple stab wounds and was found in a hotel room the two were staying in. Valero is the main suspect and although I hate to say it, probably guilty too. He is on a major downward spiral.
Hope his wife is at peace now, what a tragedy. :(

Read this on fightnews earlier on, I think I've read stories about him having problems with alcohol etc recently, but it's an absolute tragedy for her family more than any impact on boxing, although as was mentioned a waste of talent from yet another boxer not being able to keep it together (if it proves he is guilty, of course.)

If it's true (which I don't doubt knowing his past with domestic violence), it's utterly a tragedy for the girls family... I am certain her family did warn her at some point that it was leading to a tragedy as it's not the first time.. as for Edwin, he chose to screw up his life bad, he had tons of problems and didn,t get away with it tptally so to speak, he should have seen the warning in the sky.

Its a loss for the boxing world to lose a good champion on the verge of some big fights if all this is true which it looks like it is atm.
But the bigger loss is for Valero's wifes family and friends.

De acuerdo a la versión policial, Valero y su esposa habrÃ*an arribado al hotel la noche del sábado 17 de abril, aproximadamente a las 11:00 de la noche. Solicitaron una habitación para pernoctar.

Recordó que el pasado 25 de marzo, el pugilista habÃ*a sido detenido en Mérida cuando acudió a visitar a su esposa, quien se encontraba hospitalizada en el Hospital Universitario de esa ciudad, por lesiones ocasionadas por una golpiza que éste le habrÃ*a dado. Aunque Jennifer Carolina Vieira de Valero se negó a declarar en contra de su esposo, médicos del Hospital Universitario de Mérida si lo denunciaron por amenazas.

I'm in shock. I knew he had serious problems but this is just crazy.
There were clear sign that he was abusing his wife, and the wife covering up for him because she obviously felt threatened. Domestic violence is a major problem that can escalate and impacts on the children. The shite should have been in jail and at least away from her as apart of a restraining order. If I was a member of her family and he did that to my sister, I would shoot the git.
Chain this fucker to the ring post, if pac aint on steroids give him some and then let him beat the shit out of him and give them a blind ref so he cant stop the fight!!! People like Valero make me sick.
I am literally speechless. After his last fight Valero became one of my favorite fighters in the world. Turns out all that tenacity in the ring really just comes from the fact that he's fucken crazy. Unbelievable, him and his wife were having problems that's well documented but to hit your wife and to kill your wife are two different things. At least that's what it would seem, obviously not in this case. Unbelievable, RIP to the wife and Edwin Valero gets to sit in a cell and then hopefully rot in hell.

Wilmer Flores Trosel, CICPC director, has announced that lightweight world champion Edwin Valero admitted guilt in the murder of his wife early this morning in Valencia, Venezuela. According to police, Mrs. Valero had three stab wounds on different parts of her body. The wounds were not deep and police didn’t find a knife or razor in the room. Investigators hypothesize that the crime occurred during a fight. The couple had checked into the hotel at around 11:30PM last night. At about 5:30AM, Valero went to the hotel lobby and confessed to hotel staffers, who called police. Valero was taken into custody without incident.
I know nothing about the laws there but the former pitcher Uegith Urbina got close to 20 years for attempted murder in Venezuela, so I'm sure an actual murder will carry a lot harsher of a sentence.Quote:

Meanwhile Valero was asleep upstairs and only found out the next morning. That's what I choose to believe, and what the South American police are likely to conclude....

Sad news to hear reguardless of who is involved. This is why it cracks me up to hear people shit on guys for anything other than what they do in the ring. When you only read about these guys's lives through the shady media you really have no idea who these people are.
