who`s the best lightweight in the world now?
Dont mean to post this with any distaste but was just wondering who`s peoples take on the now number 1 lightweight following valeros demise
Cant really consider marquez consider his last fight was at 147 and all the talk of his return appears to suggest he`ll fight at 140.
Re: who`s the best lightweight in the world now?
I still regarded JMM as the best Lightweight anyway. I think he would have beaten Valero. Marquez moved up in weight and was beaten by the greatest fighter in the world today, no shame in that!
If he does indeed fight at 140 next then maybe i'll have to rethink.
Re: who`s the best lightweight in the world now?
Joan Guzman can't be qualified as a lightweight anymore.
Re: who`s the best lightweight in the world now?
None really stand out for me. I actually think Khan should move back down. Better shot at ruling than at 140.
Re: who`s the best lightweight in the world now?
This would be a good time for Anthony Peterson to try to actually take a step up.

It's crying out for somebody. Maybe 'Mighty Mike' can drop down...

Kevin Mitchell could soon be the top man!!

If he does make it, it will be more to do with clever match-making and a lack of competition imo.
Re: who`s the best lightweight in the world now?
Marquez/Diaz 2 should be at lightweight. Out of your list Casamayors last fight was at welter, Diazs was at a catchweight, Guzman weighed in as a welter. So of your choices I'd say Soto.
Re: who`s the best lightweight in the world now?
As I don't like any of the other fighters on the list, and seen as Marquez hasn't been beaten at lightweight and also the possibility that he'll fight at lightweight again next, i'm sticking with Marquez for sure until he says he won't be fighting at lightweight.
Re: who`s the best lightweight in the world now?
Surprised you didn't have Miguel Vazquez, Miguel Acosta or even Katsidis on your list.
Lightweight has really fallen apart, but there is a lot of young talent coming in to fill the void.

He's fighting Humberto Soto next.
Re: who`s the best lightweight in the world now?
Like KS stated to be fair and as TRUE LWTs on the list Soto would be my pick but just out of the list in general I pick Diaz
Re: who`s the best lightweight in the world now?
Marquez is fighting Diaz for the second time for the lightweight championship.
Marquez is still number 1.
Re: who`s the best lightweight in the world now?
I still got to go with Marquez as #1.

Re: who`s the best lightweight in the world now?
To be honest that list is a bit of a joke.
Marquez has already knocked out two fighters on it ( Casa, Diaz) and he will be knocking out Diaz for the second time when they meet. Casamayor and Diaz have done nothing of note since Marquez derailed them.
Guzman isn't a lightweight anymore, and his record there should be 1-1.
Soto has only just started his career at lightweight. He doesn't deserve to be named the man there.
Other options like Katsidis, Mitchell, etc have also not done enough to be mentioned as the man at 135.
Funeka was a top guy at 135 but his recent drug tests meant he was cheating to make weight, he probably won't be a lightweight again.
Re: who`s the best lightweight in the world now?
...guzman is no where near a lightweight.
Re: who`s the best lightweight in the world now?
Wait this could be a trick question.. The Champ in JMM... But the #1 guy is probably Soto.

Yeah really... If anyone can't fight LW it's Guzman. He literally cannot fight at LW anymore after coming in over on Nate Campbell (in case some of you forgot). He was banished by one or more of the organizations Source?(WBO maybe?)
And Mighty Mike just stepped up to WW, ono.
I think JMM can be counted.. he is a blown up featherweight for cryin out loud.
I have a feeling Soto will be on top for a while. He's improved his boxing skills quite a bit, and he has power in both hands. I think he's overlooked b/c he doesn't have a lot of matchups out there for him. I would say he takes Guzman easily in a rematch
Re: who`s the best lightweight in the world now?
My boy JMM is obviously the best until someone beats him, just because he lost at Welterweight. Which is two weightclasses above Lightweight, plus he even struggles at Lightweight, means nothing at all.
Considering the fighter he was up against had all the advantages, regarding size, reach, ETC. Plus it was Floyd Mayweather Jr for crying out loud.
IMO JMM is still a top 3 P4P fighter, aswell as being the number 1 Lightweight.

I'd say Juan Manuel Marquez is the best lightweight in the world just like he was before Valero killed his wife and himself.
