Its is top draw , i have got them all on DVD , but for me the Saprano's just pips it to the post.
It's on my list of things to do. Right next to Arrested Development.
I wish I could watch The Wire and Arrested Development again for the first time. 2 of the top 5 TV shows of all time.
Auf Wiedersehen Pet, Only Fools And Horses, are the best ;)

You really can't compare Auf Wiedersehen Pet with The Wire
Agreed, I thought the Wire was the greatest tv drama show i have ever seen!
I just finished the last episode of the last season of The Wire. I am a huge Sopranos fan and halfway through the first season I knew this was better. Every character, if he lives long enough, has such a rich development. Every good guy has dirt on him, (almost) every bad guy has some redeeming quality. The only one I can think of who didn't was Marlo. He was just a jerk through and through. Maybe Cheese too, but even he had a soft spot for his dog. I thought Chris was good for nothing but being a stone-faced killer, but he was just so GOOD at it. The way he looked at people, it was like a shark was watching them. I never want to be looked at by someone like that.
But by far my favorite was Omar. A gay stick-up man who's only as ruthless as he needs to be who comes equipped with a set of rules. The only one I didn't really like was Brother Mouzon. He was too... comic book-like.
Chris Partlow is, without doubt, the most fearsome character in tv history. Cold, simply cold! :D
Agree about Brother Mouzone - didn't find him believable at all. The whole Nation of Islam side to him really didn't wash with me. Have you seen 'The Corner' or read the book? Both by David Simon. Sheer brilliance.
A tight 3-way between The Wire, Oz and,for me anyway, The Sopranoes. The Wire is compulsive but i think people think its the best cos its still fresh in the mind. The Shield is knocking on the door too
I am watching The Shield at the moment when working night shifts. I do agree, very good show. Not a patch on The Wire, though. Would've been good to see Vic Mackey going after Marlo Stanfield's crew - he wouldn't have stood a chance. Chris Partlow would've had him 'got' in no time.
Thing for me, is, Snoop was a stone killer too. But somehow, she humanized Chris. The only time I ever saw him show restraint was when they were running out the New York boys and he told her how to ferret them out. Snoop was about to kill a guy on a corner and Chris pulled her back. Not that he felt anything for the guy, but he had a strict set of rules he followed (ie, whatever Marlo told him to do). That and when he killed Michael's brother's father. For some reason, how he killed the man seemed deeply personal, almost like he'd known him. Even the cops thought he'd been killed by someone he was familiar with.
Snoop, basically, played herself. I am a Wire obsessive and Felicia 'Snoop' Pearson actually used to be a drug dealer and even done time for a murder when she was younger. She got the part when Michael K Williams (Omar) spotted her in a club and took her along to meet David Simon. Since making the show, she's been busted with drugs since. Some people never learn. :D
If I went on Mastermind, The Wire would definitely be my subject. :graduate:
Oh, and for the record, the reason that didn't stop on Michael brother is because he himself got abused either when he was younger or when he done time inside. ;) I think that is why he took such a shining to Michael as he could see himself in the boy.
I love all those HBO shows myself and could make an argument for 'the wire', 'Oz' and 'Sopranoes' as the best shows ever screened. I wouldnt be as good as yourself on 'the wire' but i know what i like and know a good show when i see one. Have you seen 'Oz'? Theres at least 5 or 6 people in the Wire that were in 'Oz'. If you aint seen it , i recommend it strongly. I think it was the 1st big show HBO did.
Yeah mate, I got Oz on my laptop but ain't watched it yet. I hear Bodie is in it? He was one of my favourite characters so be good seeing him in that - he was in the Sopranos too briefly. When one of the lorry jackings went wrong. Only noticed it the other day. :o
Yeah bodie is in it for a good few episodes. Funnily enough, i had it on my media player for nearly a year before i started watching them. Once i started i couldnt stop. Chris Meloni outta SVU is brilliant in it and plays a guy you just cannot imagine him playing until you see him do it. Dont want to say much more except to persevere with the first few episodes as its establishing the characters but well worth it
I have no clue what is it all about, i am totally behind for T.V shows and I do not even have a t.v where I am at the moment (well, in the common kitckens there are but I never use them).
I've got both boxsets for Oz & The Wire. As good as Oz is, it's just not on the level of The Wire, which is far and away the best TV show ever. I do see the parallels though, as they were respectively the first shows to look at it from both sides of the law, and there were shades of grey on either side. I can't think of a single character in The Wire who doesn't have that one human moment where you feel empathy for them. Even Clay Davis, Rawls and Marlo have it. Maybe Valchek doesn't.
Although Koppas for such a Wire fanatic, you missed that Chris stomped on Michael's step-father not his brother ;)
I hate Bodie on Oz. He's such a snot-nosed punk. I'm sure somebody shivved him, but I haven't seen a ton of Oz. I do know just about everyone died in the last season. Daniels was on Oz too as an undercover cop. I remember an episode where he was in solitary after someone got him high or forced him to take drugs and he was shaking like a leaf going through withdrawals.
It was obvious something had happened to him from the sheer amount of rage he had as he bludgeoned him to death. Look at how he killed every single person in the abandoned houses. It was almost tender. Remember my man who had the store when Chris was promising him he wouldn't leave him where the rats would eat him. He said something like, "Don't worry about it; I'll take care of you."
I was only pulling your plonker mate, the lack of smilie probably prevented you from seeing that.
I apologise wholeheartedly. Please accept this picture of a horse as a peace offering:

Seems like everyone's watched "The Wire" except me. To be honest American TV shows don't normally interest me. Except for the Sopranos because im a big fan of the gangster genre.
The Wire has to be my favorite show of all time. I've watched every season at least twice. The only part I didn't really like was season two the whole docks thing, and Stringer Bell being killed. The man was trying to get out.
Season 2 seems to be everyone's least favourite season but I really enjoyed it. Ziggy was a great character - played pretty much the same character in Generation Kill as well. Oh, and I actually felt sorry for Sobotka when he got killed by the Russian/Greeks. :(
Sobotka was basically a decent guy who was trying to plug all the holes while the Dam was falling all around him. Everything was just a means to an end for him and keeping peoples jobs and shit was his main priority.
Clay Davis was a great character and could talk his way out of a tigers stomach
I wonder if Clay ever thought about how close he came to being murdered. If Omar and Brother Mouzone hadn't gotten to Stringer first...
