Who give's Mayweather the best run for his money?
So, I just want to see Maywether finally on the seat of his pants, and i'm sure i'm not alone. I was so close to witnessing it Saturday, and the excitement in round two was for me almost at the roof. Who on the list can do it, or come closest now Mosley is out of the picture to snatching that 0 from Mr Mayweather.
As Adidas used to say, impossible is nothing....... NEXT

Re: Who give's Mayweather the best run for his money?
Castillo beat him 1st time out. 114-112 i had castillo every time i saw the fight
Mayweather the welterweights toughest assignment has been hatton because of his awkward style and the fact he is an all or nothing fighter. Hatton took a fair few rounds off of mayweather which nobody yet has been able to manage

Re: Who give's Mayweather the best run for his money?
I know this is getting tired but I still say that it has to be Pacman. I agree that those shots landed by Mosely in round 2 were great. Manny has much more foot and hand speed than Mosely. In my opinion, had Manny been in that situation and landed those shots, he would have finished it off and landed about 6-8 more of those shots and possibly put Floyd on the ground in that situation. My opinion of Mayweather rose 5 fold during that fight. Very composed in the face of mild adversity. I may stamp the G.O.A.T. tag on him if he beats Manny in the same way he beat Mosely. However, I still think that if and when this fight does happen, Floyd will have to stop boxing and start fighting in this match. And when that happens, I have to give the edge to Manny...but the deal has to be made first.

Re: Who give's Mayweather the best run for his money?
I would lean towards Paul Williams at light middle, but otherwise, there is a reason why Pac v Mayweather is the most called for fight in boxing right now...
Pac being AS fast as Mayweather... Maybe not as 100% effective or intelligent speed, but he can land as fast as Mayweather... He's VERY light on his feet and is very good at ducking and taking away the target size to BE hit.. He's a southpaw which is more effective on Mayweather.... And most of all, he punches from much more angles than most fighters... And unexpectedly... Strict boxers are figured out by Floyd within 2 or 3 rounds and he makes them look awful... The fighters who can really work angles to the body and overly pressure Floyd have been the closest to beating him.. Castillo and Hatton.. Hatton was just way to hittable... Pac is about 100 times less hittable than Hatton was in the Floyd fight..
I think Pac has a few different game plans that he could execute to take rounds of Floyd... It'll be a cracking fight..
One thing that worries me though for that is Floyd looked much much bigger than Shane... Shane was supposed to be bigger and stronger, but by round 5, Floyd looked faster, stronger, bigger, taller, longer reach, more aggressive.. But all that lost most of it's effect in Round 2 vs Mosley because of the pressure... Pac will put more pressure than most fighters without being hit as much...
Pac is the biggest risk to Floyd...

Re: Who give's Mayweather the best run for his money?
Has to be Pacquiao, followed by Williams.
Manny's speed and southpaw style will cause problems for Floyd, but nothing he cannot handle. Manny has never faced anyone that moves as much and as fast as Floyd does, so it will be interesting to see how his normally high accuracy holds up. Same goes the other way around too I suppose, but Manny is a lot easier to hit than Floyd.
Freddie Roach will need to get Manny working on his upper body movement if he wants him to have any chance I reckon. Even though he has impressively won all his recent fights, Manny has been tagged pretty well in most of them at different points. If you give Floyd a target, he will hit it and wear you down over the rounds.

Re: Who give's Mayweather the best run for his money?
I was thinking of voting PW but I just see a Diego Corrales scenario all over again. I'll go with Pac.

Pacquiao/ Martinez/ Williams
All southpaws. Two of em are pretty big. The other is a monster in his own right.

martinez is a natural 154er and at a push could probably get himself down to 150 if required.
Id be surprised and dissapointed in PW if he ever went back to welter as its just not him

Re: Who give's Mayweather the best run for his money?
I'm having Paul Williams man, despite me being a retard for my decision. I know Pac may have come on and be more comfortable, almost a beast at LW and WW, but I just can't look past how Mayweather dealt Marquez.

Re: Who give's Mayweather the best run for his money?
I voted Williams as giving him the best run for his money, but Mayweather won't lose. ;D

Re: Who give's Mayweather the best run for his money?
I think Mayweather should fight Tim Bradley and do it before Pacquiao can. Bradley can sure as shit do a better job than Mosley did.
Fight Berto.
Those are my top two for Mayweather. Tim Bradley or Andre Berto. Besides Manny, of course.

Also, Mayweather would be taking out a fighter with a "0" on his record.

His tax bill i would assume! ;D

Re: Who give's Mayweather the best run for his money?
How would Williams beat Mayweather? Sure , he's big, but he has no defence. He hasn't improved all that much from when he lost to Quintana. Floyd would take him to school. As for the vote, I voted Pacman

Re: Who give's Mayweather the best run for his money?
I'd say no one and all of these guys at the same time. I don't see anyone outboxing the dude. But in this sport anything is possible. Williams at 154 would be the best shot. But i'd take a chance throwing bradley or martinez in there too. I know the pac fans will hate my black ass for this opinion but i just don't see him having much a shot. And that's not a bash on him, i really don't give any of them a real good chance.

Nah, can see why a few people think Williams gives him a tough fight. I see Mayweather toying with Pacquiao to be honest.
-
Re: Who give's Mayweather the best run for his money?
I voted Selcuk Aydin because he's Turkish and we can beat the fuck out of everybody ;D
In all seriousness, PW throws more shots than Corales but I feel that only means more countering oppurtunites for Money.
Pacman - His hardest fight but I don't see why people say "I wonder what would have happened if Pac landed that shot"...erm, he got hit by Shane Fuckin Mosley. If he survived that he'll survive Pacquaio's shots..I doubt he woulda been stunned in the first place for Pac to finish him.
Pac's biggest weapon for him in this fight will be his angles, output and the fact he's a southpaw. Floyd usually gets drawn into fights with southpaws which may or may not bode well
Berto doesnt have a chance imo
Martinez at LM would be tough but I doubt Money's going back there to fight again.
The rest don't fare well but you never know..
-
Re: Who give's Mayweather the best run for his money?
I would have picked Paul Williams if the fight is at LM but Floyd will clobber him at WW. Since it seems unlikely for me that this two will meet, I will have to erase Williams from the equation. Otherwise, I would have said Klitschko.
This brings me to the current weight division where Floyd is right now ....... so I'd say Manny Pacquiao.

Re: Who give's Mayweather the best run for his money?
Pacman is the only fighter out there that can beat Floyd, all the rest have no chance. Williams included.
For all the trash talking, for all the BS that sometimes comes out of Floyd's mouth, when it is all said and done he is a very smart fighter. He was in trouble in this fight with Mosley, one of the most dangerous fighters of the past 20 years, yet Mayweather worked out what to do within a round, he never lost a round after the 2nd and wins a fight that could easily have been just one more punch away from ending sensationally for him.
Pacman's different angles and speed both with foot and hand will cause Mayweather problems, (he will need to land bigtime very early) however do not underestimate the fact that Mayweather might just work Manny out inside a couple of rounds and frustrate the hell out of him and win a UD comfortably.
I see no one else out there with a chance against Mayweather. I hope this fight comes off by September/October!

Re: Who give's Mayweather the best run for his money?
Always said if mosley doesnt do it no one will. Floyd will retire undefeated and best p4p fighter since RJJ...
-
Re: Who give's Mayweather the best run for his money?
I know this is off topic, but did anyone follow live betting for the Mosley /Floyd fight? After the second round Mosley was the favorite for like 10 seconds and then they made the odds even at 1.8 . Thats 80 bucks won on a 100 I put down :) nice cash.

Re: Who give's Mayweather the best run for his money?
My vote for Williams because he is tall and rangy, southpaw and throws loads of punches in bunches at light middle.
