Calzaghe and Myweather: Ebony and Ivory..Riggs and Murtaugh
-
Re: Calzaghe and Myweather: Ebony and Ivory..Riggs and Murtaugh
Just reading that and they say Calzaghe come out of retirement beat Bute and we will give you your legacy hahahahahahaha, what the fuck is this with the Bute love? He has beat no one!!! His best win is against a guy Kessler beat to a pulp 4 years earlier, so he beats Bute and he will get his legacy well wasn't that the deal with Kessler? His record prior to fighting Calzaghe was similar to Bute full of half decent fighters but no one that good, Calzaghe beat him and it is now it don't matter. Same would be with Bute.

Re: Calzaghe and Myweather: Ebony and Ivory..Riggs and Murtaugh
The writer of this hasn't done much research has he? Calzaghe is well respected in the UK and is in the top 3 of the majority of peoples best British fighters.
Shit article in truth got pathetic when he said all Calzaghe has to do is beat Bute to cement his legacy .
-
Re: Calzaghe and Myweather: Ebony and Ivory..Riggs and Murtaugh
Beating Dawson a this stage is ten times better than Bute.

I was thinking the same thing..like "wtf beat bute and get a legacy?"
That statement shitted on all the points about JC not being great because of his personality. It's like is he not great because he's an asshole or lack of competition? Which is it?

Re: Calzaghe and Myweather: Ebony and Ivory..Riggs and Murtaugh
"Calzaghe never fought a Vernon Forrest, a Winky Wright or even a Shane Mosley"
probably because none of them fought at smiddle...
what a shit article, what ever about Calzaghe not been mentioned in a top 100 p4p
Floyd as well? hate the guy as much as u want but his talent in the ring should be
admired because we might not see anyone as good for a long time.
Also funny how he thinks Floyd never steped up and fought anyone  maybe an unbeaten Corrales :dontknow:
yet blows Manny but ignores the fact Manny lost to a past his prime Morales...

Re: Calzaghe and Myweather: Ebony and Ivory..Riggs and Murtaugh
I'm reading on phone & I had to comment on that 'article'. It's probably the single biggest pile of shit I've ever read about boxing, which takes some doing given the excrement floating round the net.
The guy probably doesn't know who Diego Corrales is. The lines about Calzaghe fighting Forrest & Mosley, or PBF fighting Barrera & Morales demonstrate some johnny-come-lately boxing fan repeating the crap he's read on ESB forums.
I can't believe the TS said it was 'a decent article with some valid points'.

Re: Calzaghe and Myweather: Ebony and Ivory..Riggs and Murtaugh
The only thing Floyd and Joe have in common are the fact that Calzaghe and Floyd's uncle Roger Mayweather share the same drug connection.

Re: Calzaghe and Myweather: Ebony and Ivory..Riggs and Murtaugh
This is a terrible article, and Mayweather is already way more highly regarded than Calzaghe career wise.
Calzaghe arguably lost against an far more aging Hopkins, while Mayweather decisively beat Mosley.
Oscar was far closer to his best than either Hopkins or Jones were when they faced Calzaghe.
The fact is Floyd is way better than Calzaghe, there is no comparison, he is already about 60 slots higher in the all time p4p list, and there is a reason for that.

Re: Calzaghe and Myweather: Ebony and Ivory..Riggs and Murtaugh
I do not agree with the article in general but neither do I agree with the Bute super bashing here, which is getting a bit ludicrous especially because the guy did far more than beating a shot Andrade (which he is not anyway). Sure, the Bute hugs in this article looks too much but at the same time, I think I know why the guy did pick Bute and not let's say Abraham or Froch:
- The super 6 tournament will go on for about 2 years, more or less. Most of the fighters who could fight Calzaghe (the interesting ones) are all busy in the meantime except Bute and by the time they will be available, Calzaghe will be 40-41, too old this time. Who remains in line? Bute, because he's one of the top 3 guys (in my opinion) in his weight class. If the one free would have been Abraham or Ward, I am sure the author would have stated one of these to point out that Calzaghe didn't beat many top guys during their prime.
- Bute is far from being a Joke. Bika lost 3 times only and he's the one who did possibly look the better against him, which is not an understatement when we know how Bika has a tough style. He did explode Miranda in 3 rounds when Andre Ward couldn't blast him in 12 and where he did survive 7 rounds against Pavlik, 4 and 12 against muscle powerhouse like Abraham and Pavlik.
- Toyed with Andrade in the first in an even more spectacular fashion than Kessler and ko'ed him what nobody has ever been able to do before.
- Ko'ed a dangerous Fulgencio Zuniga in 4 where only one other has been able to do so, Kelly Pavlik in 7.
- The only guy who ever ko'ed the very respected Egyptian Magician Kabary Salem in 8 rounds, a guy who went the 12 rounds and ended up almost not bruised against Joe Calzaghe.
All in all, his record sheet is still wayy better than Andre Ward which only significant wins are a UD against Miranda and a master class performance against Kessler. I don't mind that Ward might considered the top dog because of the way he did dispose of Kessler, I could accept that without problems, but nobody will make me swallow that his resume is better than Bute in ANY possible way.
We might not like the guy or think that for a reason or another there is a bit of hype. However, nobody can deny that the guy has a top resume for the division, that he has thunder power and an incredibly good speed and technique. He might not be the next big thing but he's more than just a laughable fart as some might indirectly describe him.

Have to disagree with you there Wards victory over Kessler puts him ahead of Bute, his win over Kessler who since has come back and beat the number two WBC Champ is a name which is streets ahead of anyone Bute has beat.
I am not saying Bute is shit or anything I rate him he is a good fighter but the Bute love is unreal on here he has beat no one whatsoever, you break down all these wins and how he did it but all these guys he beat have been exposed and beat comfortably by other fighters, until he steps it up ( which is not any fault of his own at this time ) how the hell can you rate this guy number 1? He is far from number 1.

I never said he is number one but his resume is better than Ward which only significant win is the win over Kessler.
As for the "guys that have been exposed since then", he's the last one who did fight Andrade, nobody did beat him since then, he's the last guy who did beat Salem who was a tough dog and the last guy who did beat Zuniga. His record is much better than what you do give him credit for Skel, I understand that some peoples are giving him some hype because he's kind of the dark horse of the division doing his business while the tournament goes on but I don't see any other guy in his category that we could put ahead of him except perhaps Ward which win over Kessler could be something arguable though it is only a single significant win.

How could he have only won 116-112 if he scored two knockdowns ? and even if my memory is slightly off, i know he for certain scored one knockdown early.

Re: Calzaghe and Myweather: Ebony and Ivory..Riggs and Murtaugh
Mayweather is a level above Calzaghe , he has gone through the weights , fought much better opposition.
I liked the comment - " They maintain that he got to Hopkins and Roy Jones when they were past their primes " that is priceless , RJJ had twice been KOED , and Calzaghe slapped him for 12 rounds and got floored by Hopkins and Jones.
Ebony and Ivory - chalk and Cheese - which ever way you look at it , Calzaghe aint no Floyd Mayweather in achievement . A British great in some peoples eyes , that's the bottom line.

I know what you're talking about. I think 1 of my buddies called Bute the 168 pound version of Hasegawa. A guy that built his career mostly fighting decent to mediocre opposition in his country and gets highly overrated by a segment of the boxing fans.
;D

1. Hopkins was not in his PRIME ( although far from shot ).
2. Calzaghe was as close to stopping Hopkins with his slaps , as Kid Thunder is close to getting a world title fight.

If Hopkins would have engaged rather than cry about invisible fouls B Hop would have gotten the beat down of his life.
I think Joe beats down Bute or anyone else at 168 if they fought now.
