The Ring's top 10 most exciting fighters
Just flippin through the June issue on the john and noticed this.
These are their rankings not mine.
1. Israel Vazquez (Mexico)
2. Manny Pacquiao (Philippines)
3. Michael Katsidis (Australia)
4. Miguel Cotto (Puerto Rico)
5. Edwin Valero (Venezuala/Japan)
6. Yuriorkis Gamboa (Cuba)
7. Rafa Marquez (Mexico)
8. Giovanni Segura (USA/Mexico)
9. Paul Williams (USA)
10. Antonio Escalante (USA/Mexico)
Next 10 not ranked, just alphabetized
Arthur Abraham (Germany/Armenia)
Tomasz Adamek (USA/Poland)
Alfredo Angulo (USA/Mexico)
Jorge Arce (Mexico)
Vic Darchinyan (Australia/Armenia)
Carl Froch (UK)
Marcos Maidana (Argentina)
Juan Manuel Marquez (Mexico)
Shane Mosely (USA)
Kelly Pavlik (USA)
As I said this list is obviously dated since Vazquez/Marquez IV had not happened and Valero was still alive. Just thought I would bring this up for discussion
Re: The Ring's top 10 most exciting fighters
To tell you the truth I don't think I would have Williams in the top ten and any of the other fighter's I would put ahead of him.
Re: The Ring's top 10 most exciting fighters
When has Williams been in a bad fight though?
Sharmba Mitchell, Darrius Mattyse, Antonio Margarito, Carlos Quintana (x2) were all quality fights worthy of re-watching any day and then of course a legit FOTY canidate with Sergio Martinez. If you match him well, he gets hit and takes risks enough to always make a fight with high drama. What's not to like about Paul Williams, he's a born fighter imo.
OK, assuming Vazquez is retiring here is my list just based solely off personal preference.
1. Manny Pacquiao
2. Miguel Cotto
3. Rafael Marquez
4. Antonio Escalante
5. Michael Katsidis
6. Librado Andrade
7. Juan Manuel Marquez
8. Timothy Bradley
9. Yuriorkis Gamboa
10. Robert Guerrero
Also Adamek, Margarito (if he is going to be an active boxer...), Ali Funeka, Juan Diaz (who knows if he still has it), Glen Johnson, Ji-Hoon Kim, Sakio Bika,Humberto Soto, Fernando Montiel, Koki Kameda, etc.
What I'm more offended by is Abraham's inclusion. I mean yeah fight changing power no doubt about it, it gets your blood going. But come on! When has Abraham ever been in a stirring fight until the knockout? Totally undeserved, people just assume he's exciting for some reason when he's really not.
Re: The Ring's top 10 most exciting fighters
paul williams is the strange one that sticks out
and where the hell are the klitschkos?? ;D;D;D
Re: The Ring's top 10 most exciting fighters
As much as I hate him, Amir Khan should, at least, be in the ten who missed out.

I'm glad somebody else has said that. I was going to but i'm not brave enough.
He's been in some very entertaining fights, and the fights which jave ended early have been spectacular
Re: The Ring's top 10 most exciting fighters
David haye should be mentioned somewhere.

The only fight for me that was really exciting for WIlliams was the Martinez fight. All the others where decent fight's nothing really to get you going.
I do agree with Abraham as well. I always thought he was very boring. Plod forward, hands high, and counterpunch. Same routine over and over.

Pac is number 2 on the list.
I would have liked to have seen Jhonny Gonzalez on there. Rogers Mtagwa, Yonnhy Perez and Abner Mares deserve mentions as well.

I think Berto has a shot on this list too..
Re: The Ring's top 10 most exciting fighters
BTW, Floyd Mayweather is the most EXCITING FIGHTER I HAVE EVER SEEN...
;D
Re: The Ring's top 10 most exciting fighters
By difination of "exciting" to me is guys who aren't afraid to take risk.
Pac
Rafa
JML
Israel Vasquez
JMM
Darchinyan
Margarito (yes imo, he fits in this category)
Maidana
Re: The Ring's top 10 most exciting fighters
Everyone is forgetting Sergio Martinez.
For me the number 1 most exciting fighter right now is Juan Manuel Lopez. The guy reminds me of the young pacman, he wants to fight the best right away without tune up fights.
Re: The Ring's top 10 most exciting fighters
1. michael katsidis - all-action, all the time fighter. blood and guts guy. very entertaining.
2. manny pacquiao - throws punches in bunches from weird angles. has more energy than the energize bunny.
3. juan manuel lopez - his great skills are great but his KO power is mesmerizing.
4. sergio martinez - always liked his style. becoming a superstar at ripe old age of 35.
5. yuriorkis gamboa - not only is he speed and power incredible but that he has a suspect chin makes for awesome fights.
6. alfredo angulo - his knockout power alone merits alot of attention.
7. giovanni segura - probably one of the top 5 p4p punchers in boxing today.
8. tomasz adamek- never in a dull fight. this guy brings it everytime. love his work.
9. jean pascal - this guy is very underrated IMO. someone who can beat chad dawson is really GOOD.
10. tavoris cloud - this guy has no defense but he can punch all night long. makes every fight a street fight.
Honorable Mentions
wladimir klitschko - anyone with his power has to be respected. besides, everyone loves heavies with power.
fernando montiel - for such a little guy, this guy can punch as hard as anyone p4p. great fighter.
mikkel kessler - love his style. another one of those exciting fighters who you never get tired of.
vic darchinyan - has a weird "crab" style but boy is he exciting. pure KO artist.
daniel ponce de leon - so he doesn't have any defense but his punching power excites boxing crowds everywhere.
rafael marquez - not as technically sound as his old sibling but he's more exciting because he isn't afraid to go toe to toe with anybody.
robert guerrero - for some reason i just get excited when he fights. always comes ready to play and give a good showing.
timothy bradley - not much power but his speed and energy make for exciting fights.
marcos rene maidana - definitely a great warrior. can get "dumped" on his butt but always gets back with more intensity.
