Why would Mayweather be scared of Pacquiao?
Stylistically I don't think people get how tailor made Manny is for Floyd. His bouncing, rhythm based style makes it so easy for Mayweather read when what Manny will be doing, and Floyd will figure him out in a couple of rounds and beat him to the punch for the rest of the fight ala Mosley. The biggest problem with Manny's style is that he loses balance, position at the end of a combination, and he needs a specific rhythm and distance to get off effectively, Marquez either stayed too close or too far away and Floyd would do the same thing, and he would pepper Pacquiao with lead right hands followed by the left hook then lots and lots of body shots. I think by the sixth round that Manny would be in a totally defensive shell where he would be too frustrated and try to load up more, but it would only make it easier for Floyd to beat him to the punch and hit him even more.
I just don't see Manny as his biggest challenge, IMO Bradley in a few fights will be a more significant threat because of how well rounded and skilled he is.

Re: Why would Mayweather be scared of Pacquiao?
exactly. then why all this bickering? lets just get this fight over with.
the gag order on the negotiations gives me this feeling its definitely happening. get ready to be hyped to the max.

Re: Why would Mayweather be scared of Pacquiao?
There isn't any logical reason that can be seen why Mayweather would be scared of Pac....
But I think Mayweather, in spite of pretending he doesn't give a shit about anything except money, cares a lot for his big "zero"...
To work his way to the top, he did what it took.. Which didn't involve making demands extreme demands which ventured away from the boxing norm...
But he reached the top, had his break and time to think about everything, and now he's back, he really wants to protect that zero.... So the first thing is instate a rule into his personal fights where everyone must have extreme drug testing... An extra insurance he doesn't give one minuscule advantage to an opponent... He CLEARLY states he is NOT interested in fights for Legacy, ONLY money.... Meaning anyone who can actually challenge Mayweather he won't consider unless they will bring a giant pay day... Eliminating another way his zero could be jeopardized. Then when the only pay day in town, pacquiao won't agree to the tests, he threatens to have another 2 year break...
I don't think he's scared of Pac.. I think he would 100% believe he can beat Pac.. As a lot of people think... But he's clearly hanging on to something and "scared" to let it go....
I just think it's a slight contradiction to say all he wants is money and that's all he cares about, yet possibly the biggest $$$ fight in history he is refusing to bend in any direction to make happen.... Hundreds of thousands of boxers before him have stepped in the ring under the current drug testing commission rules, and fought their guts out for themselves and for fans of boxing...
Mayweather should very much be campaigning with the boxing commission to bring in stronger testing. I think that is a good idea.. But denying everyone great fights to instate these rules himself for maybe the last 1 or 2 fights of his career, is a bit perplexing, and I find it hard to believe his thoughts are truly only about cleaning up boxing.. Of course he will have convinced himself that that is why he's being so solid about it, but Pac has agreed to more testing than the commission demands, the same commission that was good enough for him for this first 40 or so fights to get him rich, the same commission that every other boxer out there fights under, and has done for the past 100 years...
There are ways and processes to go through to change the drug rules for the good of boxing, but he's doing it for himself because he's scared of something..

Re: Why would Mayweather be scared of Pacquiao?
Simply put Floyd is not scared of any fighter no elite professional fighter is scared of another if it's my job to fight fear does not come into it.
Floyd trusts the word of his father who was the first guy to start this drug testing bullshit. And Pac should have just taken the tests.
-
Re: Why would Mayweather be scared of Pacquiao?
He probably isn't scared of Manny, but this fight above all others seems incredibly difficult to make. I don't put all the blame on Mayweather as he in the right on the drug testing issue, but there is no need to say silly things like "I'm not going to fight for two years" either.
-
Re: Why would Mayweather be scared of Pacquiao?
Thats why im thinking, Floyd is exceptionally the best no doubt, he could easily win and get $25 or maybe $40M by fighting Pacquiao. Just wondering why he could say some silly things he needs to rest or retire for another year or two.
Strange but here some points i consider, 1. Drug testing which already heard Pac agreed even on a 14thday which failed the first negotiation 2.avoiding fighting a lefties or southpaw. 3. Or on money 50/50 then 60/40.
here some old articles / audio clip from Mayweather Sr. regarding fighting a southpaw fighters
Floyd Mayweather Sr “My son will never fight Manny Pacquiao” --- audio May 2010
&
Floyd Mayweather Sr.: Floyd would beat Pacquiao easier than he beat Shane - May 2010 also regarding fighting a Martinez also a southpaw.
-
Re: Why would Mayweather be scared of Pacquiao?
Floyd is not afraid of Pacquiao and Pacquiao is not afraid of Floyd. People who say that are just exposing their agendas. Lets talk sensical people. Pac straight out chose not to fight Yuri Foreman because he said he was too tall. Does that mean he is afraid of Foreman? No, it was just a bad matchup for him. Remember when Roach stated before the Mosley/Mayweather fight that Floyd would not sign to fight Mosley no matter what??? Indicating Mayweather was fearing Mosley. I was in disbelief because Roach knows better than to act like some outrageous fan. But then as soon as the fight was signed Roach was asked who he has winning and immediately without hesitation Roach says Mayweather easily. This right here just made me realize that anti-Floyd campaigns are not what people really believe its what they want to portray. People have to realize these guys are the elite of the elite and there is no fear of stepping in that ring. Maybe there are situations or circumstances that they do not prefer or absolutely will not accept but there is no fear of other guy.
-
Re: Why would Mayweather be scared of Pacquiao?
If he's not scared. Then why announce another retirement in the middle of negotiation? I think Floyd is a real chicken shiit. He's instinct is telling him that he can't beat a solid chin southpaw who can throw 80 solid punches per round.

Why announce retirement? Because he can, as much as it pains many to say Floyd does not need this fight.
People say oh his legacy this, his legacy that but Floyd has said he does not care about legacy, in addition to this he has an ATG legacy no doubt anyway with or without Pac.
All of the issue surrounding this fight are related to the fans, not Floyd or Pac, he made tons of money from his last fight, has everyone talking about him, has the highest PPV average in history and is a part of the highest grossing fight of all time.
Why does he need to fight Pac? I want him too and think it would be a fantastic 50/50 fight but I'm not blind to the reality! The fans say he needs this fight but in reality he doesn't need shit he is a rich fighter who casual fans recognize as the best along with Pac the only people that need this fight are the fight fans.

Re: Why would Mayweather be scared of Pacquiao?
It may not be fear in the Scared of him sense...As in afraid to be hit by him etc....
The Scared part could be that for one Floyd was for so many years talked about as the best in the sport he was going through divisions like butter...He became a marquee especially after the DLH bout.....
Now there is another guy that has gone through the divisions quicker, fighting guys much bigger then him...Biggest man Floyd ever fought was DLH....Also Floyd has a big ego just because he is not afraid of Pacquiao physically he could be afraid of looking bad, even being dropped on his ass a few times...He sees a guy who fights hungry not for money...he sees a guy who is not all loud and obnoxious...a fighter that has beaten the shit out of guys Floyd did his best not to face...(No for the obnoxious ones about to make a dumb comment it has nothing to do with Floyd being scared but fact is fact and Floyd has never sought out the divisions most dangerous fighters since his days at 135 resume aND TIME HE FOUGHT GUYS AND WHAT WAS AVAILABLE TO FIGHT SPEAKS FOR ITSELF) He ses a fighter who has endless stamina and one who is blinding fast and for those who do not think pacquiao is faster watch clips of their last fights side by side and use the slomo on your viewer to catch punch speed times.....He ses a fighter that can take shots from much bigger men and still stand......
In the end it all comes down to Floyds ego and fact he can not understand how it could be possible another man out there can do some better minus the defense....
You will be surprised what guys will avoid not because they are scared of person or situation but how they will look oin public if made to look a fool..
Like the school bully all of a sudden has to deal with a new kid who isnt afraid of him...The bully would probably kick his ass but if he pursued the fight it would not be easy and the intimidation factor would be gone so after a fight with the new kid he would find more and more kids standing up to him making it a whole lot harder to be a bully because he was made to no look so tough...Hence it is easier to just avoid the fight...EVEN IF HE WOULD WIN!

When JMMarquez called out Floyd, He fought him outright and beat him. That was truly amazing
On a more serious note, everything you just said, I agree with. Nice to know someone is realistic about all this crap.

Re: Why would Mayweather be scared of Pacquiao?
It's simple.....
Since 'they' are not negotiating in the media, it's Mayweather's way to stir the pot. If you read into it, it won't reason out.
-
Re: Why would Mayweather be scared of Pacquiao?
I don't believe Floyd is scared at all. I mean if you're scared, this is not the business for you. I just hope they can both just get past all the BS and make this fight happen. I would like to see a 40/40 split, with winner taking the other 20%.
-
Re: Why would Mayweather be scared of Pacquiao?
Great thread. Some very good arguments.
-
Re: Why would Mayweather be scared of Pacquiao?
I don't think he's scared of him. I agree with the original post that stylistically, Pacquiao is a good match up for Mayweather, but I think he's definitely worried about losing his "0". If he loses one fight, his whole gimmick is lost. He can't stand in front of a camera and say "I'm the best ever, all these other guys lost and I haven't" if he gets beat. In Pacquiao, he'd be up against a guy that, while I and many others don't think will win, can win. But I really don't think any fighters are scared, otherwise they wouldn't be fighters. You can't step into a ring scared of the man opposite you, otherwise you won't last long in the sport.
-
Re: Why would Mayweather be scared of Pacquiao?
WHY?? WHY??? Because the guy killed mutant giant crab? Because he received mystic powers from unfathomable radiations maybe, something that doesn't get detected in blood and urine test and which are, according to the law, legal???

Re: Why would Mayweather be scared of Pacquiao?
Let me first state that I think Pac is taylor made for Mayweather and I see a pretty one sided beat down by Mayweather in this fight. Manny is quick, but Floyd is faster and has better defense and will pick apart Manny.
That being said, Floyd is sure acting like a scared little b%tch. He would do so much to improve his image if he would have just taken the fight and beat Pac. Now even if Floyd fights pac and beats him there is a bad taste in alot of people's minds because Floyd is being such a whiner about the fight.
-
Re: Why would Mayweather be scared of Pacquiao?
Floyd ain't fought anyone like him.

Look, I know people say 'scared' but I think they mean in terms of Floyd losing his '0' not scared of fighting.
That's all he has in this sport to boast about really. That's all he ever goes on about. Without that '0' he ain't much.

Re: Why would Mayweather be scared of Pacquiao?
A question i'm really interested to see answered, is when Mayweather actually does retire,,,, whether he continues to campaign for better drug testing in boxing. Or whether it was just added protection for him and his no loss record.....
And I have put myself in his position, having someone who have the most respect for swear to you that a potential opponent is absolutely taking PED's, then i'm sure I would be pretty steadfast about ensuring they don't take the drugs for my fight with them..
But one variable is that if Mayweather Sr actually had some form of evidence, he'd have come out with it. Especially with a court case against them for defamation. And I think Mayweather who has got as much from boxing as he has given it, should support their rules, including their drug rules... Every other fighter lives under those rules, and considering he has no proof that Pac has ever taking performance enhancers, it really leave me anyway, feeling robbed of a fight that really should be happening...
Someone like Cotto refusing to fight Margarito again at the chance he cheated in their previous fight,,,, OR at the fact he'd been proven to cheat period,,, well I completely understand that...
As much as I just wish Mayweather would settle, for the sake of everyone, I do understand where he's coming from.... It just sux, we could have seen this fight last November, and maybe even be having a rematch around now...

Re: Why would Mayweather be scared of Pacquiao?
like some of you say floyd jr. has ducked certain fighters, the same can be said about pacquiao as well. back when pacquiao was in the lighter weights, everyone is well aware that joan guzman was calling him out repeatedly and pacquiao wanted no part of him. why is that? is it because he was being well protected from certain styles of fighters? then there is when juan diaz was an undefeated lightweight champion and he too, was calling pacquiao out. what happened? not a word from pacquiao's camp! only after juan diaz lost to nate campbell did pacquiao's fans say he would destroy him. but not a single word from them when diaz made those challenges. now, when pacquiao took a huge "risk" and challenged the (incomparable) david diaz, other lightweights were calling him out! but no, not a single word from the pacquiao camp. why? moving along...before mosley destroyed antonio margarito, roach said no way pacquiao would ever fight margarito. but only after mosley destroyed him, then all of a sudden, they considered margarito as a possible opponent. then when mosley said he would go down to 140 to fight pacquiao for his jr. welterweight title, again, pacquiao and roach ducked him. but when mayweather jr. toyed with mosley, then suddenly, pacquiao "could have easily beaten the old mosley".
do any of you sense a bit of hypocrisy here? oh, and let's not forget pacquiao ducking marquez for a third fight after pacquiao got an early christmas gift from the judges. marquez even humiliated pacquiao in front of all his fans and told pacquiao he wanted a rematch but all pacquiao could do was utter something like "um, a, aa, um, i, aa, was, um, lucky, um". lol....
any pacquiao claiming that mayweather is "ducking" pacquiao can't say a damned thing about their god, pacquiao because he too has a great reputation as a cherrypicker.

No big fights are ever split for the winner to gain any money. I can never figure out why... My bro and I think it should be 90/10 for the winner. Give the MFers something to fight for. WSOP style!

Pot calling the kettle black, bro. Mayweather wouldn't fight Margarito either.
Does Pacquiao have to fight Marquez a third time?? No. It would take Marquez 2 victories to edge Pacquiao... meanwhile Pacquiao fights better opposition and wins 10's millions.
And Pacquiao was fighting HOFers when Mayweather was fighting Carlos Manuel Baldomir. While Mayweather says he unified the WW division against a feather duster.... NO.. I don't think you quite realize... BALDOMIR WAS A FEATHER DUSTER MAKER
These level fighters only fight twice a year... They can't fight everybody at once!? You are placing unreasonable circumstances on a fighter to prove their worthiness.
Lastly I want to say that both of them have done a great job "handling" their careers. I never thought Pacquiao would make it this far (to Welter). But I always knew Mayweather was just taking out the trash. He's been in this division for a while and has left no noticeable dent aside from Mosley and De la Hoya (JMW)

Re: Why would Mayweather be scared of Pacquiao?
jonny,
the reason why pacquiao should have fought marquez a third time because the first two were so inconclusive and the world WANTED the fight. it's funny how mayweather jr. is being called the "ducker" when it was pacquiao who ducked marquez back when marquez mattered. right now, everyone knows marquez is too old to compete with the younger world's elite fighters. but back when pacquiao got his early christmas present, aside from the judges, the VAST majority of boxing fans and boxing sportswriters thought marquez clearly won the rematch with pacquiao. back in the good ol' days of boxing, he had to convincingly beat the champion to take his title and pacquiao did not deserve that title from marquez. a real champion will grant a rematch after he's taken a world title when the majority of the world thought he didn't deserve it. so in my mind and millions of boxing fans minds, pacquiao ducked that third match with marquez. but isn't it very interesting that pacquiao had zero hesitation for signing up for a third fight with a washed up morales after he KO'd him? i know fighters duck one another but it seems pacquiao fans are the biggest hypocrites around. but it seems that nowadays, if someone questions pacquiao's greatness, it's all of the sudden very politically incorrect and taboo. hogwash! the truth needs to be said about pacquiao's shortcomings as well because although he is a great, great fighter, he falls short as a great, great warrior!

Dude you are starting to embaress yourself...Any Mayweather topic that comes up you act as if he can walk on water, you are using stupid shit like Pacquiao fans are hypocrites...You are confusing nuthuggers with people who can debate boxing...Johnny is the latter.....The third fight with Morales was because they were 1 and 1...Had to find out who the better man was...Not as if He KO'd Morales twice and went for the easy kill...Morales people pushed hard for that fight I promise you..
Stick with debating in a proper sense rather then the whole finger pointing shit if you want to be taken seriously

First of all I am not a nuthugger, so you need to get back into reality. Fact is and I stress FACT FACT FACT NO MATTER the topic who it is about if Mayweather is brought up you have nothing but praise of him..Great fighter yes but you get out of control....lIf the topic was jacking off your reply would be "No one Jacks off better then Floyd, he does it so fast and he can do it with both hands in every direction"....You do exactly what you accuse everyone else of doing....Ruffle my feathers? No.... I don't know you and if you never logged on again it would effect me zero but if you are going to be a fan boy and make the same statements over and over again I will call you out on it....If you don't want to be called out on it don't post....Thats why it is a forum...It isn't personal
I am sure I post things that make others feel the same way

Re: Why would Mayweather be scared of Pacquiao?
floyd fought the smaller jmm (without any further demands except cheating on the weighing scale) because according to floyd, jmm is the #2 p4p boxer.
so why not fight the #1 p4p guy, manny pacquiao?
team floyd said pacquiao is an easy fight for floyd. make the fight floyd and dominate pacquiao same as how you dominated the smaller #2 p4p guy in jmm.

Re: Why would Mayweather be scared of Pacquiao?
In the curious case of Floyd Mayweather Jr. against Manny Pacquiao, what reason is there really behind Floyd’s recent tirades against Pacquiao and for him to claim that he does not need to fight Pacquiao? Businesswise, lil’ Floyd has always said he was about making money, and practically if he wanted to make the most money, dancing with Pacquiao is the biggest money-making fight there is out there for him. So why did Floyd go out of his way to sign and announce a fight against Pacquiao’s nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez on the same day Pacquiao fought Ricky Hatton?
Perhaps Pacquiao’s ascension as the sport’s #1 Pound for Pound best fighter in the world after he retired, hurt lil’ Floyd’s ego. As you can see on the video I posted below and others online on Youtube while he has been promoting his fight against Marquez, Floyd gets irritated every time the media asks him about Pacquiao. He is quick to point out Pacquiao’s knockout losses a long time ago back when Pacquiao fought as a skinny kid in Southeast Asia. Floyd has a point though. On paper, his unblemished resume does look glamorous. One thing Floyd forgot however is that this is boxing. A boxer’s record means nothing more than the competition he’s faced. And what Floyd fails to understand is that the Pacquiao today is a far different Pacquiao from the one that last lost via decision against Erik Morales. Or perhaps Floyd does understand that quite well and that’s why he opted to verbally convince people that he is still the best instead of just jumping in the ring against the smaller Filipino and let his hands do the talking.

That's good to see! This is one of those "debates", which come about every so often, that DON'T end up in an off topic section with saddo's finger hovering dangerously close the ban button of one of the members..
Way to go toe to toe and finish off like classy gentlemen...
That being said though, the issue still remains.. Although, I think we have nearly come to a sound conclusion from all this debating, Mayweather is completely nonsensical and borderline mental... The most logical explanation for his actions..

Calling it a "christmas gift" is a little harsh. Though many people saw Marquez winning those fights, they weren't robberies. Both were close fights and cases can be made for each fighter for actually winning. Personally, I've watched the first fight a couple of times and I've had both men winning (Marquez more than Manny). The 2nd fight though, everytime I've watched it, I had Pacquiao winning a razor thin decision. Like I said I'm not trying to make this a "I'm right and you're wrong," but more often than not people on this forum see everything through one side only.
But on topic, after Marquez, Pacquiao went on to a new divisions and also the huge names to give him some major paydays. I would've also done the same. Pacquiao and Marquez had two close fights together and it was just time for him to move on from it. You can't call Manny scared cause he went on to fight fighters that NO ONE on earth ever thought he would ever share a ring with...

Re: Why would Mayweather be scared of Pacquiao?
Neither guy is scared of the other........both of these guys are great fighters and that's why it's silly to constantly hear fans shit on one guy just because your favorite happens to be the other. These guys are fighters they couldn't even be in this buisness and be so successful if they were afraid of other fighters. Pac is plowing through guys and floyd has people acting like some big feat was done cause shane hit him twice in a twelve round fight that he probably won every minute of outside of those two punches. I personally belive pac and for that matter every other fighter out there right now has very little chance of beating floyd but you'll have to search hard to find anywhere i've bashed the guy. One guy will win one will loose, then we move on..... Having your favorite fighter beat a guy you called crap in the first place doesn't prove very much.
