Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
We all have our opinions on this one... So lets have 'em.
I feel that Ward will simply be too much for Green. As I've said prior, Green relies too heavily on his punching power at times rather than boxing and letting the game plan do it's job. We saw it in his last outing.
Green is a decent fighter but not on the level with the likes of Dirrell, Ward, Abraham and Froch(I say that cringing). Green can box a bit and has power in both hands but is not really outstanding in any area.
Ward has great lateral movement, sneaky power, great accuracy and good ring generalship. On paper it looks like a white wash... But this is boxing and it's not that simple. It never is.
So how do you all see it?

Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
If i had to bet something like my house i'd pick ward. But for this thread i'll go out on a limb and say green beats him. What was said above was exactly right. Green relies on his power then when he can't blast a guy out of there he seems to get confused almost like he's shocked anyone could take his punches. He showed that against simms. But he's an ok boxer when he not checkin out his feet every two seconds. I think he can get around wards hit, grab and headbutt type of style.

Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
Ward will outbox Green but thatr is not to say Green may njot be able to make it his type of fight...Ward would be silly to try and Test Greens power...Ward is a smart fighter....He will use the ring and box....Green though is a tough guy and assuming he can avoid his moments of lapse in the ring should be a good bout

Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
I think Ward boxes his way to a UD. I really wish i was able to go, anyone here going?

I have to agree completely. It's just one of those cases where you have to catch a guy to hurt him. Basicly people are trying to say that Green can do what Kessler couldn't... Granted they're two different style fighters but it's just one of those things I don't have trouble weighing.
People forget that the last noteable KO was Jaidon Codrington... If you call Bonsante and Ravelo noteable then you can add them too:rolleyes: ...then he took out some trash and got taken for a ride by Tarvis Simms.
C'mon, people.

good call mar. if i was betting my house, i'd pick Ward because it's a safer bet, but i can see Green hurting Ward if he catches him and winning some rounds by landing the bigger punches.

Yea Boston, but when was Ward's last noticable KO? Never really. Bute knocked out Miranda in 4 rounds! Pavlik did it in 6. Ward couldn't even really hurt Miranda - did he ever even put him down? The thing is I can see this fight going a little like the Miranda fight. Another ugly, not very exciting, win by Ward. Not to mention, it's in Oakland, Ward's hometown.
One boxing writer describe Ward's style as "Greasy." Makes a bit of sense.
Sorry Sheep, you really see Ward knocking out Green? I can see Ward pulling out an ugly victory with his punch, hold, head butt or punch routine, but I just don't see him having the power to knock out Green. I would say Ward is the lightest puncher in the Super Six. Winning 12-0 on the cards is possible. I don't see it, but if that was your call, I hear ya.
Don't forget, Green is bigger than Ward. I'm making the risky call agreeing with mar, and picking Green to knock out Ward in a big upset. I'll admit Green will have to fight the best fight of his life to win this one.
One more thing: Ward is the -600 favorite. Almost every boxing expert has picked him to win.

Yeah, Rantcatrat, I hear you and agree Ward is probably the lightest puncher in the S6. You'll never hear me preaching about Wards outstanding punching power but the fact that people are really only picking Green due to his punching power is a little weak IMO. All I'm saying is, does Green have a puncher's chance? Sure... But that's all. If he boxes with Ward he's gonna get schooled bad. He'll probbly look at his feet more times than land solid punches. ...and picking him totally on his power alone is a bit strange to me due to the quality of men he's KOd... If he was KOing top flight op. people would have an argument... But taking out the trash and then preaching about power is rather obtuse. That's my point.
Ward by one sided beating or late stoppage.

Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
I voted Ward UD...
Seriously though Ward KO shouldn't be an option he ain't knocking anyone out in this tourney.
-
Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
Andre Ward will school Green in big time fight. Andre Ward all the way!

If it were to happen to anyone in the tourny, it'd be Green

Anyone??? What about Jermain Taylor? :)
But seriously, I disagree. Green can definitely take a punch. Froch has been wobbled all over the ring by Dirrell, who is not a big puncher. I think Ward could TKO him. He'd only have to land a number of unanswered punches. But 1 punch KO?? I don't think so. If he did I think we'd have someone who could RULE this division for a few years.

I meant NOW, man. I just rewatched Kessler/Ward. Green's gonna get beat up.

Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
I can't stand Ward. His personality and style turn me totally cold so I will be rooting against him. I like Green, he comes across as likeable and funny. But you know, I really struggle to see him being able to rise to the occasion in this one. Ward is such a spoiler and he is going to try and shut Green out. Green seems to blow hot and cold a little too often.
In boxing there is always hope and on the night sometimes strange things happen, I hope this is one of those nights. A stunning KO by Green would be awesome, but I will just be happy with a spoiler free fight.
I'm not going to vote.

Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
I'm not gonna pick Ward to KO him, but Green's chin is iffy as hell, he should already have a KO loss on his record (Donnie McCrory fight) so its not totally out of the realm to believe that Ward could stop him late.
Either way, Ward 7 days a week, twice on Sunday, etc. Easy fight to predict, not Calzaghe-Jones easy but still pretty easy.

Question for the board: Has Ward ever been on the canvas?

Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
Not much talk about this fight?
Id love to see Green spark Ward, hes a much more exciting fighter to watch.
His showing against Miranda wasnt that great but didnt he have to come down alot of weight to make the fight? Didnt he also have to have an operation right after to remove some of his colon? He took Mirandas best shots well considering that and managed to drop him!
-
Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
Id like to be brave and pick Green by KO but when I think logically I just cant do it. The only edge he has is in power. Ward is superior in every other way.
Green does carry the power to hurt Ward but the only chance he has is if its a shootout. Ward made Kessler fight his fight and I think he will impose his style on Green aswel. Question is can he stop him or will it drag out over 12 rounds. My feeling is the more Green wants it the more chances he will take and will have to absorb some big shots as he rushes in. Hes a brave guy and will probably make it through to hear the final bell and settle for a points defeat. He ( and every other super 6 fighter ) has no chance of getting a verdict over Ward in Oakland whether he deserves it or not. Ward on points is my pick. It will resemble Ward vs Miranda.
Also guys this fight is PPV in England. Im buying. It could be explosive, I just hope Ward doesnt stink the joint out by holding. I wana see some trade offs tonight.
-
Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
If the Ward we've seen against Kessler is the real Ward, I hardly see how he could lose... which i would hope as it would put more or less everybody in the six on the same note and which would bring tons of excitement.
-
Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
I think Green is a very inconsitent and leaky fighter. His career momentum has seemed to wane and can see Wards honed fluidity and speed and confidence cause his severe problems as he banks more and more on catching Ward.I dont rule out a TKO by any means for Ward. They come in all forms afterall .
-
Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
Major fight night sticky and peaking of Tourney...come on fellas,we can do better than this :box3: love Bernstein and Tarver as a team on the microphone.
-
Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
This fight will be as one sided as Mayweather Marquez and Pacquaio Clottey imo.
Ward will cruise to an easy win. Green will stink out the place with his negativity.
I'd like a good fight but I don't see it.
-
Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
Green just looks so stiff, dry. He switches stance to righty and not throwing alot.Ward stabbing belly and keeping high guard, moving out.Mauling and holding for a minute.Ward feints him out and lets him fall in...headbutt.Long miss by Green.More watching than actual throwing.Much of a thinking round.
-
Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
Nice to see Andre Ward wearing the colours of the state of Israel, obviously supporting the root he's been grafted onto as a son of God.
-
Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
Pace picking up.Ward landing jab as he comes in.Green clinches and throws to body.Warned for head...Crowd breaks into Andre chant...Green warned again for head...two rights from Ward and Green answers with left...niiiiice feint from Ward and Ward catches Green with left hook as he shifts.Heating up in that 2nd round.
-
Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
Rough inside more and more.Right by Ward as Green comes in...Green on ropes and takes uppercut and Green not doing alot...Ward throwing in pairs and pressing Green into ropes...Body digs from Ward, uppercut, three to body...Green neeeeds to get off and shift gears. He looks stuck and unable.Ward ties up left arm and lands big right inside as bell rings....big round Ward.Wow
-
Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
Green is getting owned as badly as I thought he would.
Already he's just happy to go the distance imo.
-
Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
Ring center....green launches long shot...Ward bores in and presses him into ropes again, body work good...chopping right hand lands on Green...he looks unsteady and over thinking, legs heavy?...Ref tells them both 'No talking'...both warned for heads...left hook clips Ward from Green and he lands short right hand in the middle of the ring at the bell.
-
Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
Ward is very ring savvy and wiley for being so young.Interesting to watch unfold...Green needs to get desperate and start throwing them, there are spots he times Ward well but is waiting all night long. One step behind.Good jab working from Ward..not a whole lot this round...left from Ward as round ends
-
Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
Ward puts him on ropes at start of 6th and working overtime...big left from Ward, nice combos to Greens gut...Green is stunned and wobbled by a couple of righthands,lefts...that right is landing now...Green is returning nothing and hes getting racked over, clinching Ward on ropes....total one way round and Green is in deep,Huge left hook lands flush from Ward on ropes.F'n A
-
Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
Green just isn't that good, I've said this for a LONG time. Ward's so much more well rounded, Green can't fight on the inside. Ward on the other hand is going to be around for a while. Green just has to catch him with something from left field.
-
Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
Ward is still the ugliest fighter I have ever seen.
-
Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
Why do i think of Antwon Echols looking at Green ha...more of the same....Green needs a ko and to believe in what he has...hes getting owned up to now, mentally and physically.Beer me

Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
there are a lot of kind of pseudo boxers, guys that just rely on their speed and movement, Ward is skilled. Fights like a veteran. And he has God on his side.

Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
Green is getting dominated. No signs of him winning. Its all Ward!

Re: Official Ward VS Green SUPER SIX Poll and discussion thread
Gus Johnson with the second fluffer Sugar ray leonard comparisons.Greens left eye welting, lands good body shot...missing Jermain taylor right now....least he would go allll out
