HBO: "We're Out of the Heavyweight Division"
-
Re: HBO: "We're Out of the Heavyweight Division"
I'd heard about this and you can't blame them really. Nobody will fight each other in this division. That, and they are boring.
-
Re: HBO: "We're Out of the Heavyweight Division"
Adamek deserves to be on TV. And, well yeah, pretty much just Adamek.
To be fair this is a step in the right direction, to not waste their resources on these bores, but if theirs a decent fight made at some point I'm sure they'll jump on it.
-
Re: HBO: "We're Out of the Heavyweight Division"
Not sure how long that can last at all....You can't just abandon a whole division.....I think they may more or less just may not promote heavyweight cards as main events....But hey in boxing anything is possible...It is a sad thing I mean the division that was once the most respected and watched, is being written off due to quality of comp

Yes, I like watching Adamek too. I also don't mind watching Vitali. Haye would be alright if he would only step up, but as it is I have no interest in seeing him fight Harrison or the inevitable Monte Barrett rematch.

Re: HBO: "We're Out of the Heavyweight Division"
Heavyweights have been overhyped for the longest but it's a shame that a premier network would paint with such a broad brush.Wonder how much it has to do with lack of American prospects as opposed to some quality match ups out there.HBO is very flavor of the month and we won't see a Oscar,Jones jr or Lewis again.Manny won't be around forever no matter how many magic mushrooms he digests and they will change their minds if the dollars make sense.Haye has a huge oppurtunity to give division a shot in the arm but seems to talk more and fight less but with 40 yr old Tarver coming to hvy...he may find a quality oponent after all :-X

Its not the first stupid thing HBO boxing has done. The Klitschko's are dominant champions and all the bs about how they are boring and "no one can tell them apart" is just HBO having their feelings hurt by the lack of American presence in that one division.
Wlad draws crowds he sells tickets, its not his fault that he sells more in Germany than the US.
Try some marketing HBO

Why is it stupid?
Are you trying to suggest that Wlad has been in an interesting heavyweight bout recently? The only thing interesting about his fights is seeing Manny Steward have a rant in the corner, but nobody should pay PPV to see that. He is the biggest bore boxing has seen in recent years.

To be fair to HBO, I'm sure they have no problem marketing a pair of 6'7 brothers with great power and all-round athleticism. I think the problem they come up against is marketing two guys like that who fight as if they're Ivan Calderon.
I quite enjoy their fights to watch from a technical perspective, but they are not easy to market to a US audience.

David Haye is entertaining enough, but he just won't fight anybody. He deserves the HBO wrath too.

Re: HBO: "We're Out of the Heavyweight Division"
Do think the styles may play a factor but to be fair...how many Chris Byrd main events did HBO feed us ??? Bigger may be that frankly Americans like their heavyweights frontal and somewhat willing to engage, explosive.Byrd never saw exceptance and at the end was talking tough, whining and trading to make statements. Also and it has to be said...fluent English may help.

The Klitschkos speak better English than the likes of Amir Khan & Devon Alexander who HBO are happy to bankroll. Also the English language factor hasn't held back that Manny Whatshisface bloke :p

Re: HBO: "We're Out of the Heavyweight Division"
There are heavyweight fights here and there i dont mind seeing. Not the klitch's fault thier comp is so far beneath them. If i were one of them i could probably care less. Back home they are selling out soccer stadiums and the like so reward those people. Screw us americans here who never appreciated the guy in the first place. They should be proud how many people can say they were so good in thier division they got the whole division thrown off tv.........talk about shutting shit down and throwing down the mic after.

Ha you may have a point about Khan, what a struggle. If only the hvy had the depth of 140-147.Btw ever hear lt hvy contender Tavoris cloud interviewed :o makes them all sound like proper word smiths.

They are technically skilled dominant heavyweights who knock out their opponents. Not everyone can fight with Pacquiao's style or trash talk like Chicken Little.
The main reason HBO won't show their fights is simply scheduling. If the Klitschko's fought in the US they would be on tv no problem, the issue is when they fight in Germany it cuts into HBO's regular scheduling, and who watches boxing at 4:00 PM?

Re: HBO: "We're Out of the Heavyweight Division"
It's kind of a strange move by HBO, considering Vitali-Arreola was their highest rated program of 2009.
I can understand passing on fights like Vitali-Sosnowski but Wladimir-Povetkin

It's not that hard for them to hype up a heavyweight fight. But, when people don't realize a fat ass is not going to catch a fast guy, then you get a fight THAT boring.. You can only suffer that humiliation a few times. Don't you think HBO had words with Chris Arreola after that fight? Or maybe losing was enough embarrassment for him.
-
Re: HBO: "We're Out of the Heavyweight Division"
Like I said, the two best heavyweights in the world refuse to fight each other, thats the problem. This "two headed heavyweight champion" may have been good for a month but then people started to grasp the situation. Unless one of the Klits retire or they fight each other heavyweight boxing will deservedly not be on HBO featuring the Klits vs the flavors of the month.
-
Re: HBO: "We're Out of the Heavyweight Division"
I guess I'll be catching german streams, because heck I still love watching them, not their fault nobody can get to their chin. Sorry if I knew my chin wasn't the best in the world I would be cautious as hell too so I don't think you can critisize wlad for his style, because the other style got him 3 ko losses. Adamek fighting anyone tho is just pure entertainment for the most part and not showing him is complete idiocy. Thank god for the internet and streams
-
Re: HBO: "We're Out of the Heavyweight Division"
I dont think the Klitschkos are crying too much about this. They can sell out 60k stadiums in Germany and wont cater to HBO who probably wants them to fight during prime time in the US which would be the middle of the night in germany.
I guess I am in the minority, because I like to watch these guys. They are technical careful fighters but they throw BOMBS and knock out 90% of their opponents.
-
I agree Hunter for everyone saying the Klitschko's are boring there is a person that appreciates their skill and dominance and of course their willingness to fight ANYONE.
HBO just looks petty doing this.
BTW how many bouts has Chicken Little had on HBO? They got tired of him before he has even had 1 fight on HBO shows you how much respect they have for him.
-
Re: HBO: "We're Out of the Heavyweight Division"
HBO is in the right here, why waste their time with garbage? If a good fight is made they'll televise it. Until then, why waste the money? Just say hypothetically Teddy Atlas is right and Vitali fights Shannon Briggs next, HBO should just chuckle and move along.

I agree with the Klitschko comments but as far as their fights go while it is not their fault that they can not get the opp that would give them a challenge just as it is not HBO's fault if they have to make a decision on such things in a financial sense...They can not put on fights not worthy as a favor...This is a business....
Biggest problem is the Brothers Grimm are too good for thier own good :-\

They are, yet they manage to be boring with it. The moment where Steward was yelling at Wlad to stop Chambers summed them up for me. Don't get me wrong, for me personally I enjoy watching them and taking note of the technical skills that I can use to improve my own boxing. But they don't even supply those 'ooh aah' moments that other technicians like Whitaker & Mayweather did/do through their own technical skills.
Let's just be clear, I don't blame them for fighting like this or blame them, but the simple fact is HBO is in the entertainment business, so they want fights that are going to be entertaining.

Like you said in another thread, it's because of their background with a funny accent when speaking English. Larry Holmes was a boring as fuck HW champ that fought a technical style but he was still on HBO tons of time. Not even hardcore boxing fans would rate Holmes as an exciting HW champ.

Re: HBO: "We're Out of the Heavyweight Division"
Well thats a new record set by the klits. the first Heavyweight champs to be taken off mainstream tv.
Officially the most boring heavyweights in TV history. Congrats boys, keep up the good work. You've done boxing proud.

Doesn't change the fact the klits have been taken off. And to be honest the funny thing is their only chance of getting back on is to fight David Haye
And so it was written by the great god of Klitschko nuthuggars....
'Anytime you can't defend a Klit and all the question marks surrounding their actions and opponants, go and attack David haye to try and take the heat off or steer the conversation away.'

Re: HBO: "We're Out of the Heavyweight Division"

OK HornFinger well put your fighter in the Klitchko's position. Let's say the Audley Slayer fights in front of 40k fans and gets big TV numbers in England but his popularity in the US isn't all that great, so does he #1 Alienate the massive crowds in England to build rep in the US? Or #2 Continue to get that money from ticket sales etc and hope the likes of HBO listens to reason.
That's the question the Klitschko's have been trying to answer and well HBO is simply not thrilled about boxing being on at 4 P.M. EST, it has 0 to do with performance as you can see that Klitschko-Arreola was a huge fight.

We're talking about the klits not Haye. Arreola was huge. A huge dissapointment. But that was a certain non training, out of conditon so called challenger's fault.

Hate to burst your bubble Hornfinger but HBO said "We're out of the Heavyweight division" .....not The Klitschko division so that would mean it includes YOUR BOY ;)

Yep and I'm blaming the dull as fuck fighters who were on the HBO heavyweight roster for it ;)
And I'm also willing to bet that HBO will be back in the heavyweight division should haye fight a klit ;)
