If you could change the outcome?
If you could change the outcome to one fight what would it be and how do you think it would impact the boxing world?
For me it would have to be Hatton vs Mayweather, If Ricky had won English boxing fans would have gone wild it would be huge so many new fans would join the sport! No one could doubt him after that there would be no questions on how good he was and don't get me started on Mayweather! Ricky would have to be remembered as one of the best fighters of this era! I imagine showdowns with Mosley or Cotto in which case we may never have seen Margarito vs Cotto. So maybe we would still have the old Cotto who could go on and do god knows! :o but that is just my idea, ha! Go wild guys!;D

Re: If you could change the outcome?
Morales Vs Diaz, IMO it was already the wrong decision, cause i had Morales winning the fight handily, but if they would have gotten it right Morales would have been the first Mexican to win titles in 4 weight classes and he probably would be retired now instead of fighting on, risking the chance of a serious injury

Re: If you could change the outcome?
I'd have Castillo get the nod for beating Floyd. It would have saved a shit load of drama:p
-
Re: If you could change the outcome?
Have always said Randall/Chavez 2.Randall got robbed and Chavez pulled a no mas....also Holyfield/Tyson 2....think Holyfield was on way to clean cut TKO before Tyson went cannibal on him.Mathis/Bowe,I think Riddick deserved to be DQ'd.
-
Re: If you could change the outcome?
I would have liked Jay Nady to have scored that Barrera knockdown against Marquez rather than having a point taken away. That round alone represented a four point swing.
-
All non-Klitschko related (just so you know)...
Ali-Foreman: Big George would have gotten the respect he deserves
Golota-Bowe I&II: anything but a DQ, these fights made the heavyweight division a joke.
Cotto-Margarito, Arguello-Pryor I&II: Cheaters don't deserve to win
RJJ-Tarver I&II: I hate Tarver
-
Re: If you could change the outcome?
I would go with Tyson vs. Douglas.

A very well thought out pick... Gotta applaud you for it. :appl:
-
Chavez-Taylor??? That would have really shaken things up
-
Re: If you could change the outcome?
For me it would be the first Shane Mosley vs Winky Wright fight, I remember Tito Trinidad being at the fight and wanting to fight Mosley if he won.
Mosley vs Trinidad would have been a great fight.
-
Re: If you could change the outcome?
gerald mcclellan fight to be stopped earlier. I know it s easy to say now but it was clear to see something was wrong from how much he was blinking. The Sport lost a great fighter that day.
-
Re: If you could change the outcome?
If Angelo Dundee cut the gloves off of Cassius Clay when he was complaining about something in his eyes in the Liston fight. Would he have changed his name? Would he have fought on as long as he did? Would he have gone into the army?Hell would anyone even know his name? With one fight I think this would have changed the sport of boxing dramatically.
-
Re: If you could change the outcome?
Billy Collins - Luis Resto
Collins would knock him out in the first round and then the referees would discover the tricked gloves so Collins would not have his life all fucked up and the fucker would still get the big end of the stick. It might not be the most important sportive decision but the most human one.

Both decisions I would've like to see actually happen cause I thought the losers should've won. The only fights that pop out in my mind that I would've like to have happened differently is Cotto vs Margarito and Holyfield vs Lewis II. Imagine how Lewis would've reacted if he got robbed the first time and then lost the decision the 2nd?
-
Re: If you could change the outcome?
Trinidad/Vargas, who knows what Vargas would have been able to accomplish had he beaten Trinidad
-
Lyakahovich-Briggs...Briggs didn't deserve to win that fight. I have nothing against come from behind KO's but Shannon maybe threw 4 punches the whole fight.

Re: If you could change the outcome?
Although both seemed to be "fixed" Ketchel-Johnson and Johnson-Langford....just think of Stanley Ketchel, the aura, the mystique that would surround that guy had he beaten Jack Johnson only to get shot at such a young age. Most posters think Sammy Langford got a raw deal because when Jack Johnson won the heavyweight title Sam got brushed aside...would be neat to think about how Sam Langford would have handled the belt.
How about this one...Harry Greb over Gene Tunney in the rematch....that may have lead to the fireworks display of Harry Greb vs Jack Dempsey!!!! AMAZING hypothetical matchup.
Any thoughts on these?

Re: If you could change the outcome?
Roy Jones Jr. vs. Park Si-Hun – RJJ fucking deserved the gold !!! And the Olympic gold is more valuable than any WBSomething belt.
-
Re: If you could change the outcome?
Winky should have got the nod over Taylor, then he wouldn't have been butthurt over HBO and he could have made a bunch of defenses of his title. Instead he got outcheated by B-Hop and then overwhelmed by Williams, sad sad sad.
Pernell Whitaker would only have 1 loss on his record in a perfect world, I would change all those decisions if I could.
-
Re: If you could change the outcome?
Herol graham turning McCallum and getting a point deducted and losing title.
Herol Graham just avoiding Julian Jackson's right hand would have won the title.
Herol Graham having the legs to stay the distance against Brewer he would have won the title.
-
Re: If you could change the outcome?
Jersey Joe Walt avoiding the Suzy Q and winning against the unbeaten Rocky
-

Even if Nady scored the knock down. Which he damn should of. The point deduction was legit. Barrera hit him while down and deserved to have a point taken away
-
Re: If you could change the outcome?
For selfish reasons I'd call Judah vs Tszyu a NC so we could watch him get ko'd all over again.
-
Re: If you could change the outcome?
No doubt only 2 fights would really effect boxing hstory if the results were changed:
Foreman vs frazier 1
foreman vs ali.
-
Re: If you could change the outcome?
Tyson v Buster so that we could have got Tyson v Holyfield and the battle of the undefeated heavies.
-
Re: If you could change the outcome?
wow very good thread....
if i really had the power to change a fight outcome it would be used on a fight were a fighter got brain damage or died.
alot of them fights ruined both boxers.... Eubank Watson is a prime example :(
-
How about having Armstrong come out on top of Robinson? That would have made 'Homicide Hank' the hands down greatest P4P fighter ever.
Foster over Frazier
Toney over RJJ...I wonder how Roy's career would have changed.
Cooper over Ali after the knockdown, if that was a DQ or TKO Ali may never have been heard from again
Gatti over Manfredy, that would have given us a prime vs prime Gatti-Mayweather bout.
Corrales-Clottey, I think that was the straw that may have broke the camel's back.
-
Re: If you could change the outcome?
Duran V Leonard 2...The No Mas prevented a third fight in 1981
Hatton V Tszyu...i would have loved to have seen Tszyu fight Mayweather
Young V Foreman...George retires way to soon for what ever reason after this loss, no rematch with Ali and no Holmes?

good call on this one. the whole of boxing history may have been re-written. the same could be said when Henry Cooper knocked Clay down in June 1963. What if it had happened earlier in the round and also what if there was no torn glove

Re: If you could change the outcome?
I wonder what would have happened if Schmeling beat Louis the second time round?

True, that was a robbery. And it was all down to corruption. Not much has changed since then really.
I would also have liked to have seen Khans head split open instead of Barrera's. But being the gentleman that I am I would have been okay if the judges had gone all soft and gone for a NC.
-
Re: If you could change the outcome?
I've read all the ideas and there are really some very finds here but I still believe after having read it all that for the sake of boxing and on a human point of view, changing the Resto-Collins with a first round knock out for Collins with the glove scam being discovered rifht after would turn one of the most awful event into the happiest ending ever.

Yes, I agree. I know I argued with you on this at the time but I changed my mind … you see, I’m a gentleman too.;)
I also agree with Nameless, his instance is better than ours.

Re: If you could change the outcome?
eubank-benn I
The whole country wanted nigel to shut the flash git up, when he got knocked out it almost seemed as if the world had stopped that night. Had we of known the issues surrounding benns weight we would of wrote him off straight away
But being british we naturally hyped him up so he could eventually be knocked down

Agreed on that.
I spent what was left of my saving to go out to vegas for that fight.
Also I would like to point out Ricky had lots of non-English fans out supporting him in Vegas.Loads of Welsh,Scottish and even a few Irish were supporting him.
The whole of Britain and Ireland were hopping for a Hatton win.

I know I was hoping Hatton would win...until some idiot Hatton fans decided to boo the National Anthem
HTH, so Benn had trouble making weight? I had not heard that.

6pound overweight the morning of the fight and had to lose it in 2hours before the weigh in by running for miles
that takes a hell of a lot out of you the day of the biggest fight of your life

Just wondering is all...
Schmeling himself wasn't pro nazi, so I'm not sure it would have given any long term merit to the Nazi propaganda machine.
Think how it would have changed Louis legacy....:o
