Paul Williams vs Kermit Cintron
I just want to know.. What did you guys have as your scorecard after 4 rounds?
Personally, I saw Cintron outboxing Williams handily. I do not like the way he fights. I think he fights like a pansy, and he has very little skill. But stylistically, he was a nightmare for Williams. Williams, a man who doesn't use his reach very well (see Tommy Hearns) was getting beat to the punch consistently.
In round4 when they started, MAYBE I could give that 1:00 or so round to Williams. He came out on a mission to put the pressure on Cintron. Granted, I think Williams was going overwhelm Cintron in rounds to come.
Does anybody realize that the scoring was:
40-36 Williams
40-36 Cintron
39-37 Williams
I am not sure what the judges were looking at. Thoughts?
Re: Paul Williams vs Kermit Cintron
bump. Anyone have an opinion on this fight?
Re: Paul Williams vs Kermit Cintron
Completely missed this fight myself, so I'd be interested in hearing what people think

Kermit Cintron was winning and he was robbed end of, yes i know about his fight vs Sergio Martinez, but still two wrongs don't make a right, and i don't see where all this talk of Paul Williams was coming on comes from either.
I saw Kermit Cintron landing good shots in 4th round, and Paul Williams struggled to get his ryhthm going. Paul Williams has only ever met one puncher, and he was pretty mediocre.
Kermit Cintron despite his lack of courage at times, is a good fighter with good athletic ability, and who knows how Paul Williams would of stood up to that power.
Re: Paul Williams vs Kermit Cintron
I know I had Cintron ahead going into the fourth, but I can't remember if I had it 3-0 or 2-1. It'd really like to see a rematch, it seemed like Williams was just starting to get warmed up when it was stopped.
Re: Paul Williams vs Kermit Cintron
I had Williams winning the lacklustre fight.

I didn't. I had Cintron winning or it was very close.
Now that it has come out that Margarito is a cheat, and Cintron's only losses came against him, isn't it fair to say that maybe we should rethink that Cintron lacks courage?

No see the Sergio Martinez fight.
Re: Paul Williams vs Kermit Cintron
I too had Cintron ahead. I thought both guy's were starting to warmup
Re: Paul Williams vs Kermit Cintron
That's the thing. I don't think that Pal was just starting to step it up. Cintron was playing cat and mouse with him, and (at least in my eyes and William's corner) was winning every minute of every round.
BUT, Cintron found a way out of the fight. Teddy Atlas said just what my bro and I were thinking when we watched it. NO champion just lays down after a little tangle up. He is in the ring getting hit with fists and 8 weeks of sparring, road work, et al... And he want's to just lay down after getting thrown out the ring. And for those of you who haven't seen the "phantom punch" from the Martinez fight. Get up to speed. So funny.
I take it there were NO injuries sustained by Cintron?
I am not sure why no one is fazed by this. Williams has been exposed a couple times, and I can say safely it's because he gives up his height against guys he should be using it against.
Williams has big trouble with guys who are:
1. rangey
2. wide stance
3. fast, strong jab
Re: Paul Williams vs Kermit Cintron
I thought cintron was ahead card wise...but i don't feel sorry for cintron at all. That briggs-esqe leap out of the ring this dude took was ridiculous.

Man, (from what I remember), it was an extremely competitive fight, one in which Cintron surprizingly had an answer for everything Williams was doing, (if memory serves me, Cintron kept nailing Williams with a counter left every time he came in), and I gave the edge to Cintron.
The judges were enamored with Williams aggression, though he was slower starting than normal, and again, was halted by effective counters by Cintron.
The other thing is, the HBO guys sucked Williams dick from the opening bell till Cintron was carried out on a stretcher.

No see the Sergio Martinez fight.
He was outboxed. Outclassed. But, did he lack courage?
Re: Paul Williams vs Kermit Cintron
I has Williams ahead, thought he just looked better and I think he would have gone on to win.
Re: Paul Williams vs Kermit Cintron
How do you fall out of the ring...seriously
Re: Paul Williams vs Kermit Cintron
It was a really slow fight and yeah Cintron had edged 2 of the first 3 rounds (it's ridiculous to score the 4th California), but NO WAY he should have won that fight. Sorry but the convulsions on the ground was to much, if Williams, Cotto or anyone else had fallen out of the ring they would have NEVER let the fight finish like that. Look at Yuri Foreman hobbling around on one leg and then compare that to Cintron hyperventilating on the ring apron floor and compare those two pictures. Ridiculous, how can a guy who let the fight be stopped when it shouldn't have be completely robbed? California's rule is dumb anyways it should have been a no contest and NO winner.
Also if you discount the Margarito losses you still have the travesty that was the Martinez fight. Honestly how could Cintron be robbed though? If that was Williams' second loss that would have been TERRIBLE, because no fighter really won that fight not even close but one probably did come close to just giving up.
Re: Paul Williams vs Kermit Cintron
I had Cintron up 3-0. He was landing the cleaner punches and Williams couldn't get anything going. It was like he didn't warm up before getting out there.
Round 4 looked like the fight was going to get really interesting. Williams started to press Cintron but even then, Cintron landed the bigger shots.

Yes for claiming he was headbutted when he was KO'ed.
Re: Paul Williams vs Kermit Cintron
Cintron dove out, he didnt even try and grab the ropes, just dove out. I wouldnt doubt it if he thought he was ahead and was going for the easy win. He even said he wasnt hurt afterwards, but was on the ground a mighty long time. I dont even think it will be close if they rematch Williams will break him down for sure. He literally dove through the ropes....if it was legit, the guy has horrible balance.
Re: Paul Williams vs Kermit Cintron
It's like everyone was watching two different fights!
Re: Paul Williams vs Kermit Cintron

Guy facing similar adversity should have just gotten back up.
Cintron is a joke. He'll never be a world champ again.
