I remember watching this when it was on.
Toney has always been a gob shite;D:rolleyes:
Benn smashed Barkley all over the shop in the first round.
Toney had to go 9, 3 years later;D
Toney turned down a fight at Cruiser with Eubank in 2001 I think.
I dont care what Toney garbles on about, I think both Eubank and Benn had his beating, more so Eubank.
It was good seeing Toney getting fatter during those career highlights.
thats why he's top 5 of my favorite fighters
i remember that on tv it was great viewing;D
eubank beats toney
dunno abt benn toney tho:confused:
I think Benn was the absolutely PERFECT opponent for Toney...I'm not sure about Eubank but Benn was wide with his punches and Toney's defense and chin is such that he could handle Benn
Was that a laugh track being used ??? Seemed a bit 70's game show-esq altogether ;D Am a huge Benn fan but he would have had an up hill battle all the way with peaked Toney but had that constant eraser in power. Eubank and Toney shared flaws, full of ego and could be out worked and hustled, especially Eubanks. Think Toney beats him. Just way to sharp inside.
From good fighter to fat clown loser trash-talking slurring punch-drunk delusional idiot in just a few short years. Just how does a person sink that fast?
Toney beats Eubank, Benn v Toney good fight id lean to Toney though.
James Toney gave Iran Barkley a beating from start to finish, it was a Jeff Lacy vs Joe Calzaghe type beatdown, have you even seen the fight ?
Nigel Benn vs Iran Barkley was controversial, because one of those knockdowns were slips. And he constantly kept hitting Iran Barkley when he was down, Iran Barkley had Nigel Benn badly hurt aswell in that round.
And im sorry no way either beat a prime James Toney.
Those clips of Toney in the early days are awesome, he was young but just a natural boxer who could handle anyone, except the weight.
That video misses the best bit when Eubank starts rambling about "why is he insulting my mother"
ICB, none of those were slips in Benn-Barkley. And there was nothing controversial, it was just a violent one round tear-up.
I seem to remember one of those knockdowns being a slip, but whatever it don't really matter. But i think Nigel Benn hitting Iran Barkley on the floor twice, he was lucky he didn't get DQ.
And IMO Iran Barkley despite being down a few times, as crazy as this may sound. I still think he was dangerous, and he had a chance.
Would of been interesting if they wouldn't of had the 3 knockdown rule.
Regarding Eubank vs Toney, Chris was going to sign a contract to face Toney as he thought Toney had faded and would not be that strong ,only by now they were both at Cruiserweight. Unfortunately,James decided to move up to Heavyweight so the fight never happened.
Damn shame as it would have been the ultimate chess match with Chris doing a poor man's Jones, staying on the outside flicking the jab, with Toney attempting to cut the ring down and land combo's.
In reality no matter where the fight was being held it would have been a 50/50 fight but with the home town fighter getting the win on points.
Regarding Benn vs Toney, well they both fought Barkley, Dewitt and Sanderline Williams only Nigel did a better job than Toney did. Yes,Toney schooled Barkley but this was years AFTER Benn had smashed him in 1 round. Barkley and DeWitt hit the deck 7 TIMES against Benn between them, but ZERO times against Toney. So whose the dangerous fighter here cause it sure doesn't look like its 'Tits out' Toney?
Toney got a draw 1st time out against Williams and Benn managed a VERY close SD win. Both evenly matched against the same fighter here.
Basically, Toney should beat Nigel as Nigel would tire badly late on if he didn't get rid of Toney early. However,if Reggie Johnson can drop Toney BADLY then so can Nigel Benn, only Benn 'could' finish him.
60/40 Toney though no Toney nut huggers here would EVER convince me Benn was made for 'Tits out' as that is patently not the case. Benn would undoubtedly be THE most ferocious fighter James ever met at middle.
