Calderon Vs. Segura 08/28/2010
Ivan Calderon and Giovanni Segura are unifying their WBO/Lineal & WBA Titles here in Puerto Rico, IMO Calderon outboxes him in what is likely to be his last fight at 108 lbs.

depending on the undercard i might consider going to see it live
Re: Calderon Vs. Segura 08/28/2010
I say segura catches him and stops him.
Re: Calderon Vs. Segura 08/28/2010
Seems a good match-up for the unification, by the way el terrible, Calderon moving up in weight? seems its been a long time hangin on his weight class amazingly he's able to that for a long time with his age. like Bernard Hopkins did in middle weights.

actually wouldn't be shocked if it happens, Calderon has been slowing down, and although not hurt, he went down in his last fight against a light hitter, but i think he has enough experience, skill, and stamina to outbox Segura (who does get wild at times) for the decision, at 35 he's basically in a no lose situation much like Finito Lopez was at the end of his career (more specifically his fights with Alvarez), if he loses it's mostly down to his age and fact that his best weapon is slowly going away (his speed), i honestly think that he retires by the end of the year or next year for sure
Re: Calderon Vs. Segura 08/28/2010
yup i agree with ya bro. Segura will take a battering cause we all know he will be outboxed but giovanni will eventually catch him with one of those bombs and i just don't think calderon will handle it very well. Hey no matter what happens this will be a great fight. Pretty much no 1 vs no 2 like it should be.
Re: Calderon Vs. Segura 08/28/2010
I can't think of a better matchup of pure puncher vs pure boxer. To say that Segura gets "wild at times" is an understatement. His fight with Conchilla (sp?) was Segura winging the hooks for 2 rounds and surviving the next 10 rounds on heart.
I've only seen snippets of the Iron Boy. But I really like what I have seen. He's definately left his mark in the lower weight classes for history. It's far more impressive to me when the lower weight guys go undefeated.
Segura is already at the top of my list for favorite fighters after his two fights with Conchilla, though. I hope he sparks the old man out. I do not think he can win a decision, though.

well he's been talking about moving up to 112, no doubt that he's well aware that it wont hurt his legacy already so basically just taking the chance (or at least saying he is) and wants to try and get one more title in another division
Re: Calderon Vs. Segura 08/28/2010
one thing people might not know is that giovanni segura is a terrific body puncher. imo, this is the only way to defeat calderon because all of his opponents target his head but since he's such a defensive genius, they miss more often than not. segura loves to go to the body and if he does it religiously from round one, calderon is going to slow down immensely and segura will be able to KO in the later rounds. if segura abandons calderon's body and tries to headhunt, he'll lose to calderon by decision like all of calderon's prior opponents. not only is this calderon's toughest fight in his career, he's going up against the hardest hitter he has ever faced. should be an interesting battle!

Cazares is a bigger puncher than Segura and he's still going to be the toughest guy Calderon has fought after this fight
Re: Calderon Vs. Segura 08/28/2010
morales,
i forgot about hugo cazares. i was very surprised that cazares lost both times to calderon. that's why i say he, calderon, is an absolute defensive genius! but the thing is this, back when calderon beat cazares, he wasn't showing signs of aging like he is present day. that's why i think he's very vulnerable against segura. but if calderon does beat segura, it won't surprise me one bit because they guy is an absolute genius of a fighter.
Re: Calderon Vs. Segura 08/28/2010
i didn't know this fight was on ppv but i'm definitely going to buy it. it's a great clash between two little titans.

Poor creature, you are now resorting to talking dirty huh? Can't quite defend your proposition eh?
How foolish of you to talk about genitals. It just shows how uneducated you are. You are turning a boxing forum in to a gay thread. Don't worry bitch, you will have your time. I think the MODS here are not sleeping. Come on, you can do better than being stupid ;D

I can't blame you if you think about your Mexican legends' destruction by Pacquiao each time you see a Philippine flag. Don't be so paranoid. You also have Mexicans beating Filipinos. Nut I think, you are having nightmares because of Pacquiao. Do not be too obsessed on your nightmare..;D
Re: Calderon Vs. Segura 08/28/2010
jolz,
actually pendejo, there is NO comparison between mexican and filipino boxing and you know it. now i know you all want to make this a rivalry and shiat but guess what, when one side is so dominant over the other, there is no rivalry. i've read many, many comments in various forums where everything mexicans do, you all want to do better or be better at. this seems like blatant green envy to me. where do you ever see mexicans trying to compete themselves with pinoys?
about pacquiao, yes, he is a great fighter and he's fortunate to have come along when morales, barrera and marquez were aging. hell, a semi-shot morales kicked packy's ass. imagine if morales was at his physical prime when he beat pacquiao?
but enough about that, let's talk about the little rivalry you pinoys want to have with mexican fighters. below are just a few stats i've researched since you pinoys wanted this rivalry. enjoy: :owned:
world champions: mexico - 110, philippines - 33
combined champions: mexico/mex-americans - 153, phil/fil-am - 35
Hall of Famers - IBHOF & WBHOF: mexico/mex-am - 41, philippines/fil-am - 4
total successful title defenses: mexico - 598, phil-fil-am: 58
* you've got to be kidding me! you mean to tell me that your 35 world champions have come up with only 58 title defenses? talk about weak!!!!!!!! :o
current world champions: mexico - 9, philippines - 2, packy and donnie nietes
division champions: mexico - 193, phil-am - 42
head-to-head in title fights: mexico - 46-23-4 and it's only going to get worse in the future!
currently, there are about 35-40 serious blue chip mexican prospects. can you name me how many the pelepens has?
i'm waiting for your response, pare.
Re: Calderon Vs. Segura 08/28/2010
annnd there goes my thread, way to fuck it up guys....so yea, how about them Cowboys...(cue the awkward silence)

haha pendejo your ass...So what if Mexico has more blue chip prospects than the Philippines? Oh yes, Mexico has more greater numbers than the Philippines based on the stats that you have given. There is no denying that. I love Mexican warriors and I could care less whoever wins in these kinds of match-ups. For me, as long as I have seen a great fight, I would not care if a Filipino loses. As long as I am entertained, I will still be happy. Unlike you, who becomes bitter if a Mexican loses a fight ;D
Boxing is alive because of Warrior races like Mexicans, Filipinos and Puerto Ricans..what is sickening here is your hatred toward Filipino fighters (maybe to Filipinos as well) Based on your threads..;D
but let's get back to the topic. it is about segura and calderon. why are you diverting the topic pendejo? You always show your Mexican nuthugging posts?;D
