are you saying the stoppage was premature? because from the look of the knockout on youtube, it appeared that he was out cold when he hit the canvas. and from what i gather, this was the second time he had been rocked in the fight.
one more thing, does jacobs usually fight on his back foot, running from his opponent? does pirog usually press the action? i thought it was the opposite for each.
does anyone have a link for this fight that they could email me?
Wasn't as hurt as he seemed?? You serious, that was a brutal ko, you could just tell from the first few seconds that Jacobs and Golden Boy had bitten off more than they can chew here, well that's the impression I had and this was from someone who had a nice bet on Jacobs, Jacobs was fighting better off the backfoot in the 2nd and after but I just new Pirog was to much for this kid, just seemed to big to strong and was making the much faster Jacobs miss, Pirog looks the real deal to me his resume is very impressive he has been taking guys down in his early fights that fighters like Bute and Abraham were fighting in there 22+ fights.
Pirog would murder Angulo but that won't happen Pirog is a big solid Middleweight. Class performance from him lets hope he is on HBO again soon.
Check my new sig out, Jacobs doesn't even know what day it is, sweet KO.
I dont know man.I think Jacobs was mentally out of his game as the pressure built, you could see it.He was really broken down and just dont see a rematch going any differently.Jacobs bought into the hype and over his last couple of fights acted like he 'had arrived' when in fact he is still very green and not totally championship material. They fast track some of these guys to titles and miss alot of needed foundation.Pirog vs Angulo would be fun...I HOPE HBO has him back, didnt even interview him, and he doesn't disappear back over seas like some do.
I thought Pirog looked good, but it did seem like the ref pushed Jacobs back onto the canvas when he tried to get up. I don't think he would have been stable if he got to his feet.
Both didn't look like they were ready for anyone at a higher standard yet though.
Angulo is probably too small for Pirog right now because he fights at junior middleweight. I read the promoters for Sergio Martinez and Dimitry Pirog were in talks after the fight. That could be an amazing scrap, but it may be too soon for Pirog. Who should his next fight be against? How do you think he would fare against the other middleweights: Felix Sturm, David Lemiuex, Sergio Mora, Kid Chocolate, Roman Karmazin, Sebastian Sylvester?
don't get me wrong it was a beautiful shot, but as miles said he responded well seconds later while a count would still be going on, i'm not saying that he would have won and that Pirog wouldn't have just stopped him either way, but he did look like he was there and aware of what was going on
as for the rematch, i've always been pretty indifferent when it came to Jacobs, i think he still has potential cause he has shown skills and well as it's been said he's only 23, but we seriously have to factor in a couple of details that can't be ignored, he's inexperienced as a pro and well it seems as if Golden Boy were just in a rush to cash in on the kid, and like said in another post, i honestly doubt his mind was fully in the fight, the woman that raised him (his grandmother) just died unexpectedly last week
i'm not saying he's the next great thing, but honestly we should give the kid a chance to redeem himself before passing judgment and labeling him a hype job, he has skills, power, speed and is an exceptionally talented technical fighter, so lets just give him a fair chance to bounce back
Jacobs looked like he was shitting it from the start. So even if the knockdown didn't completely snooze him, he must have been thinking about staying down.
I laughed when they said Macklin considered fighting Pirog. Good night.
I admit, this is the 1st time I've seen this Pirog guy. I'm going to need to see him fight a few more times before I can say how good he is, but it looks like he just derailed another of Goldenboy's prospects.
Don't know if you've noticed mate but El TerribleMorales has just pointed out that Danny Jacobs is only 23! You need to go and tell him. ;)
;D
Not another one of Golden's Boy youngins' dusted.......
;D;D
When watching that shot in slow motion I am surprised Jacobs went down, the way those big ears were flapping, I thought he would have flew away..;D
IMO I dont think stoppage was premature....
I think Martinez beats Pirog like a gong if they ever fight. At actual world level Pirog has lots of power but nothing else. He makes Pavlik look like SRR.
Beast i dunno, but he sure looked good to me. Took some gave better, the degree of the Ko doesn't matter. Pirog got the job done.
i've become a fan of pirog overnight. this guy has serious, mad skills. i think he would destroy pavlik and most middleweights because of his fluidness and overall ring generalship. this guy definitely knows what he's doing in the ring. potentially a great, great fighter!
Someone said pirog made pavlik look like ssr, don't know if we were watching the same dude. Pirog looked good in there, tons of uper body movement. there was a sequence in the fight where he dodged about 6 or 7 punches just moving his upper body, something you won't see pavlik do ever.I'm not saying he's the next coming or anything, but give him one or two more "contender" type fights and then put him in there with one of the big "dogs".
Damn I just checked out boxrec and it says he's 30 years old! Goddamn that's a late start.
Anyways I'm looking forward to his next fight. Definitely worth checking out.
Pirog beat Jacobs but I think we need to hold off on saying he is going to beat world class guys like Martinez. We dont really know how good Jacobs was. Everyone thought Prescott was a beast after he dusted Khan and it ended up that Prescott wasnt that good just had a good night against Khan.....
The worst thing Jacobs done was keep switching to southpaw. I don't know what he was doing to be honest, every time he done that he was getting caught. Still, the ko was pretty special. Pirog is the Ivan Drago of the middleweights. Laughing after he was hit, love that. ;D
Kinda reminds me of Carl Froch :-X
His style is nothing like Pavlik's. Not saying he is better or worse, but his style is completely different. And he wasn't even known for his power as someone else mentioned (which makes you question Danny's chin), if anything he was known for his defense, something we all know, Pavlik doesn't have. He definitely is NOT the stereotypical European fighter. He bends and moves much more than the average.
Kirkland - check the following videos, I think you'll see he fights a lot more in the steroetypical American style if anything. His movement is like a poor man's PBF.

That's the first time I saw him and I was steaming drunk and full of special cake. I'll have to watch the fight again and watch a couple of future fights I suppose. I saw all the upper body movement but I didn't think he was anything special. I thought Jacobs was rubbish and Pirog was slightly better up to the KO.
All I can say from watching the fight on youtube is WOW....that guy isn't very quick on his feet but he's very cagey. He has excellent head movement and good defense but the thing he does the best is he pivots in on his opponent getting closer kind of short arming lead rights (they are leads because he pivots into a southpaw stance) lulling his opponent into a false sense of security just before the KO Jacobs' body language says "OK, the rights are at a distance I can roll with them" and then Pirog switches orthodox again and it's lights out...Jacobs was fucked because his back was against the ropes and there was nowhere (seemingly) for him to go.
I think Pirog's style would work well vs someone like Jermain Taylor (in his prime) but not so much vs a Bernard Hopkins or Andre Ward or maybe even Dirrell as those guys are quick but kind of have a sense of danger before a punch is thrown where they will either get the hell out of the way or tie up and I think that's the way you beat this guy. Good 1-2, keep distance, once he pivots to southpaw you tie him up and he never gets you in range for the big bomb.
Sergio can handle this guy, he's a southpaw I don't see that pivoting in working on a southpaw like Sergio....maybe against Paul Williams but not Martinez.
I would LOVE to see Pirog vs Cintron
Give over. As if you knew Pirog was world level before the fight...
He's 30 year old, fighting outside of Europe for the first time. He beat a prospect who was facing his first major test. Let's see where Pirog goes from here. I'm pretty sure there was a 'Prescott is a beast' thread after he beat Khan
Just re watching the HBO feed for the fight, and the commentator team is quite ignorant, don't seem like they do there homework the way they reacted to that finish was as if it was same scale as Tyson/Douglas??
" Shock of the year " Same scale as Andy Lee and Amir Khan wtf?? Khan and Lee were around 1/25 on to win there fights they were shocks, Jacobs was generally a 4/6 favourite basically 50/50 fight.
He didn't look like any of the previous Russian fighters I'VE ever seen.
I was truly impressed with his movement and poise, especially considering it was his first fight in the Mecca of boxing.
He did damn well and was impressed by the result, now I would like to see him against another solid opponent to see how he does and to make sure it wasn't just a magic day at the office.
Pirog was a 3-1 underdog from what I saw and most every american boxing analyst picked Jacobs to win.
Why didn't HBO interview Pirog after the fight? Was it me or was that weird? He had just derailed a major middleweight prospect and no interview?
Pirog has a fan friendly style. From what I've seen of Sylvester, Pirog beats him. He looked very fliud and relaxed considering this was his first fight in the US and his first fight on a big stage. He was boxing like he knew he was going to win from round 1.
How about Pirog v. Pavlik? Actually, I'm sure Kelly wants nothing to do with Pirog. I bet Sergio beats him at this point, but its a good fight either way. I'm not sure a loss to Sergio would drop Pirog's stock too much anyway and it would be another big pay day in the US and a win propels him into p4p territory. Plus its a unification bout.
A fight vs Sylvester is a unification bout if I'm not mistaken and it would futher increase his stock in Europe.
I'm not sure what fight would be big in America for him....although I would LOVE for him to starch Sergio Mora!
Oddschecker.com lists all the online bookmakers over here, and Jacobs was generally 4/6 ,8/13 ,4/7/ Pigog 11/10 6/4, now i never saw 3/1 and if I saw any price similar to that I would of thought it was Christmas.
The gambler dude on youtube black fella with that tash had Pirog and quite a few others I read, not that I don't believe you but 3 -/1??? Where was this?
