I Think The Super Six Has Been Rubbish In All Honesty.
Jermain Taylor pulled out, Mikkel Kessler pulled out. Is this thing ever going to end ? honestly i was really excited about this tournament when it was first announced. But so far its been pretty lacklusture
The only decent fight so far has been Mikkel Kessler vs Carl Froch, but it just seems this is taking forever to finish with rescheduling and fighters pulling it out. Im just really losing interest in it.
I just think it would of been better to have arranged the match ups, instead of having a tournament. Then fighters like Lucian Bute could of been involved.

The upside of having a tournament, however, is that one loss does not eliminate participants from the field. Kessler may not have got the fight with Froch after his pitiful performance against Ward.
You may just not enjoy watching Ward and Dirrell. I liked watching the Jermain Taylor/Arthur Abraham fight.

Re: I Think The Super Six Has Been Rubbish In All Honesty.
similar thing said another thread earlier today. format and timescale doomed it to failure if you ask me
who's that in your avatar ICB ??

Re: I Think The Super Six Has Been Rubbish In All Honesty.
It seemed like a great idea at the start, but with two fighters out and too many matchups marred by dodgy officiating, the overall impact has been less than it should have been.

Re: I Think The Super Six Has Been Rubbish In All Honesty.
The only thing you can say is it's meant that some half decent fights have been made (on paper at least).
The things that stand out for me are...
1) - The horrible Dirrell - Froch fight
2) - Dirrell's Oscar winning acting
3) - Abraham pretending he doesn't know the rules of boxing
4) - Ward headbutting Kessler a lot
5) - Taylor getting ko'd.....again
6) - Froch - Kessler was entertaining
Yeah all in all, it's been pretty dire.

Re: I Think The Super Six Has Been Rubbish In All Honesty.
I was very excited about this tournament when it was announced but know I just think Showtime did a horrible job of promoting these events. It's horrible when I can wake up at 2:00 in the morning on a Wednesday and they are starting a newer highlight episode from the previous fight's. I say horrible promotions on all ends and of course the dropping out of Taylor and now Kessler. What a bitch. . ( No I don't mean Kessler or Taylor a bitch )

Yep, I thought that was a really enjoyable fight. No clinching or amateur dramatics. Just a good honest dust up between two solid pros.

Gary Olsen and Brian Bovell, a friend of mine. Told me to check out this program called "Prospects". Its basically about two wideboy London geezer's trying to keep there head above water. Its set in the 80's and its set in the Isle Of Dogs, pretty good show.

Re: I Think The Super Six Has Been Rubbish In All Honesty.
Thought it looked 80s
At first glance with it being so small I thought it was Benny Green and Alan Humphreys from Grange Hill \ Tucker's Luck.
But you won't remember them two will you.....:-\

Afraid not mate LOL, but you should for certain check it out. The 1st episode is floating about somewhere.

Re: I Think The Super Six Has Been Rubbish In All Honesty.
they should have done it all in one night.
Either the prize fighter format, each fight is 3 rounds long.
OR
all six fighters in the ring at once, last man standing.
OR
A pie eating contest.

Re: I Think The Super Six Has Been Rubbish In All Honesty.
The tournament has been fine, think about Andre Ward. They stepped up and he took a chance and now he is the top guy in the tournament when he started out the bottom guy in the tournament. It's given us 6 fights all pitting top 10 guys in the division.

Re: I Think The Super Six Has Been Rubbish In All Honesty.
I think it was a great idea and effort. In this sport anything can happen and not always in our favor but hey that's boxing. This tourny is a better gauge if who's the best that any of the stupid belts or pfp rating crap
-
Re: I Think The Super Six Has Been Rubbish In All Honesty.
I actually like the tournament, we have had plenty of good fights in the tourney. It's better than them just avoiding each other.

Re: I Think The Super Six Has Been Rubbish In All Honesty.
i dont think its been very good in all honesty, not sure any of the fights been on uk tv?

Re: I Think The Super Six Has Been Rubbish In All Honesty.
I think it matters that Jermain Taylor and Kessler are out of this tournament, maybe at the begining of it, but Jermain was dominated by Abraham and Ward beat Kessler even easier, I think Dirrell deserves to be 2-0 as well, and I think Ward-Dirrell is one of the biggest fights in boxing.

In truth Taylor should never have been in it.

Dirrel doesnt deserve to be 2-0, his performance against froch was so anti boxing he should have been disqualified by about round 6 and after his performance gains at the end of the abraham fight he should have been handed a ban

aye it was the format that messed it up
americans know very little about how to make a tournament like this exciting,
they made it too complicated and its just turned rubbish
should of got an englishman to organise it

Re: I Think The Super Six Has Been Rubbish In All Honesty.
First trial run, we learned a lot from this for better or worse. I think the sentiments that "It's better than them avoiding each other" and "it makes more sense than the belts and p4p rankings" are exactly right and show that this is a step in the right direction for boxing.
What seems to be more logical to me is a simple 8 man bracket. I understand the issue with one loss and you're out, but you could always qualify for the next tournament and give it another go.
-
Re: I Think The Super Six Has Been Rubbish In All Honesty.
A double elimination tournament with 8 fighters would have been about as long.
-
Re: I Think The Super Six Has Been Rubbish In All Honesty.
i think it was doomed to fail anyway, the gap between fights is to long, there is always going to be injuries as well along the way. i was excited when it was announced & well done for all the hard work of the promoters its gotta of been bloody ball ache. i think a better format would of been having all the fights on the same night. this would of helped promote the future fights more as after interviews between fighters would build up momentum.

Re: I Think The Super Six Has Been Rubbish In All Honesty.
I think super 6 has been great. The best fighting the best. Weve seen 3 unbeaten records go. Had it not been for this tourny they may have continued to protect that zero. Weve seen upsets. Weve seen contoversy. Weve seen raw emotion from guys pushed out of their comfort zone. Weve seen a great KO. A war that will be FOTY candidate and now we have two intruging semi finals and then the final which will be for the unified belts with Kessler meeting the winner.
It's been great for the sport and I look forward to the next super 6.

I completely agree. Seemed like a great idea that has not lived up entirely to its potential.
BTW, I'm back guys (not that I've been missed.) Been on almost complete depravation for two months.

Re: I Think The Super Six Has Been Rubbish In All Honesty.
I thought it was a great idea at first. But it got kinda derailed.
