Brian Kenny just delivered the news on ESPN. Great, no drug testing, bad judges and now we let guys who try to sneak plaster in their gloves fight. As if I needed another reason to hate Texas. Anyways, it will be a decent fight at least. But damn.

They just don't give a shit in Texas. I was watching an MMA card last weekend from Houston and the fighters were breathing in from pure oxygen cannisters as they were being introduced.
It sucks that a scumbag like Cheato will make another big payday in the sport, but lets all just hope Pacquaio takes a couple years off his life.
Manny should just come to the ring in a sumo suit against that cheating prick
I love Texas! I should move there.....
Expected but still a god D%4m fu%$ing shame, not only does it show a lack of strength and unity between the states and thier commissions but this piece of crap shouldn't be fighting at all and sure as hell not the so called "top guy" aguably in the sport.....and yea i'll bitch and complain and be forced the be a hypocryte by the time the fight comes and order it. But all this b.s. and to top if off another freakin catchweight makes this fight crappier and crappier. For once i'm acually proud of my state !!! We're broke as sh*t out here too but didn't bitch out to that cheater. I actually hope margo wins cause that's exactly what we all deserve. The floyd fight won't be as appealing anymore and our new champ will coming off a loss where he got destroyed and a win over uhhh yea whatever his name was and best know as a cheat. Floyd will then fight and beat the crap out of him and the super fight that all this sillyness and name calling over will never even happen. Lol
I would prefer another opponent like Andre Berto because of Plastergate but......
Just two years ago Pacquiao was fighting at 130 and was 129 againts Marquez in march 2008 and if a poster that time would post that Manny Pacquiao will fight Margarito @150 or anywhere above 147 then there's a big chance that he gets banned by the authorities because of insanity.:D
Margarito is taller than Arthur Abraham and Mike Tyson, Manny Pacquiao is 5'6
Margarito's reach is 73 Pacquiao 67
Margarito started fighting at 147 14 yrs ago and had 4 fights @154, Manny Pacquiao had 3 fights @ 147 Majority of the rest are below 126.
I dont like this fight but its better than not fighting at all IMO.
Pacman & Roach took this fight because it's an easy, real easy fight and when it's over Margarito will be wishing he was turned down again.
Pacman by KO
Margarito will be so confused and beat up that night he won't be able to find his way back to Mexico.
California just missed out on a big money fight I guess, you knew Texas was always a option.
i'm glad margarito has been given his license. the man served his one year ban and deserves the opportunity to make a living. and let me say this, margarito is going to be a very, very live underdog in this fight. pacquiao can run around all he wants but margarito is going to pursue him and pressure him like he's never been pressured. he's going to go looking for pacquiao's body from the beginning and by the later rounds, it's going to be pacquiao who will be looking to survive the onslaught.
i think if this fight goes the distance, pacquiao will win so i think margarito's only chance is to win by KO which i think is very doable. against clottey, pacquiao was marked up pretty good even though clottey rarely punched. margarito is going to be throwing punches in bunches and will have his moments.
if pacquiao can't take out margarito early (seriously doubt it), he'll be in serious trouble (like cotto) because margarito tends to be a slow starter and starts heating up by the 5th round.
not to mention that margarito has a great, young, trainer in roberto garcia, and i believe is going to shock pacquiao and the boxing world with his new and improved boxing skills.
Pacquiao stops Margarito after 6 lopsided rounds, Margarito isn't heard of again as a serious opponent from 2011 onwards
Damn... Well i hope pac puts his ass to sleep
Why? He did something that could, and has, ended the careers and lives of other fighters. A one year ban followed by an incestuous multi-million dollar fight is hardly punishment for something that could literally have led to the death or serious injury of another fighter. Furthermore, to make matters worse he has boldly and clearly lied throughout the entire process of inquiry. He's never admitted any wrong doing or apologized for his actions. Margarito is a stain and I hope he suffers brutal knock out after brutal knock out until his suspect career is finally over.
Boxing has enough black eyes and is enough of a marginal perceived joke of a sport without clowns like Margarito around.
The fact that this fight was never meant to be and is morally downright wrong it might already have set a bad omen for PAC. Hopefully not. The truth here is the super villain in Margacheato actually has a chance in seriously hurting Super Hero Manny.
i know the state of texas decision to grant margarito his boxing license doesn't sit well with many boxing fans but he did serve his time. don't blame him, blame the system. having said that, margarito i believe is going to surprise a lot of people. the man is absolutely motivated to win in a big way.
people must also remember that pacquiao has never fought at jr. middleweight so we don't know if the added weight is going to affect him. even though margarito is being forced to weigh-in at 151, he's going to come in well over 160 and be as strong as ever.
in the mosley fight, margarito had alot of trouble making weight. it wouldn't of mattered because mosley would have beaten him anyways but it did weaken margarito hence the KO.
another thing, being preoccupied with his congressional duties, how is it going to affect pacquiao? we just don't know at the moment. on the other hand, margarito is relatively fresh besides his impressive victory over roberto garcia.
i wouldn't be surprised a bit if margarito destroys pacquiao. he did it to the undefeated cotto and ruined him. he can do it again against pacquiao.
Not to take away from Mosely's win over Margarito, if you're caught cheating I seriously doubt if you can stay focus such is the case of Tony the night he fought Mosely.
The fight is morally wrong and is not a Mayweather fight but it is not a farce like what most people think. I remember 3 years ago in this forum most including me thinks PAC will get mangled by Joel Casamayor. Oooh we're so wrong;D
people seem to forget that mosley is a known cheater as well but he doesn't get the backlash margarito gets. the fact is this, margarito is a real danger to pacquiao and his fans don't want this fight to happen because of that. i love it that everyone is saying margarito is going to be an easy fight for pacquiao. remember, styles make fights. margarito is like a demon in there and is going to chase pacquiao all over the ring.
pavlik,
you're right, top rank is as corrupt as any other organization. for this fight, pacquiao will be the favorite and on paper he should win but fights are not fought on paper. margarito is going to come in absolutely motivated and will be a very dangerous live underdog.
CFH,
no, the system didn't do their job and ban margarito for life. again, don't blame margarito for wanting to fight in the u.s., blame the california authorities for giving him such a light sentence.
But...Roach thinks Margo should be banned for life? Shock. Awe. Why is he letting this fight happen? Forget Texas letting it happen.
But that doesn't absolve Margarito of responsibility. I feel quite justified in blaming both him (and his team) as well as the system for what has happened and what is happening. He is the culprit here, he is the one lying through his teeth, and he is the one who deserves the lion's share of the blame.
How can anybody bad mouth Texas over this? It's the only state that's doing what's right. The man has served his sentence. He's paid for his mistake. There's no need to prevent the man from earning a living in his home country. Lot of people forget or just don't know that Margarito was born in the United States. He's an American. He should be allowed to do his job.
Only in Texas folks! ;D
Well. I hope Arum gives us great undercards. Cuz the main event will not last 6 minutes. Pacquiao won't have to chase his opponent on this one.
I'm predicting this fight does at least 1 million buys. Pac did what 700k against Clottey?
The Filipinos will always support Manny and buy his fights, Margarito is a popular Mexican-American fighter in both countries. I say 1 million.
You know what they say, don't hate the playa, hate the game.
I don't care where Margarito was born, he shouldn't be allowed to fight until he has at least taken responsibility for his criminal actions and become accountable for them.
The State where the crime took place and which has conducted the hearings is not convinced that he deserves to fight again and I believe the other State commissions should honor that.
Who cares if he, a millionaire, needs to keep making a living (as if not being allowed to fight in the U.S. would somehow stop him from doing so)? He should have considered the ramifications of his actions when he allowed his trainer to load his gloves and put the life and career of his opponent(s) in danger. The potential damage to any of his opponents as a result of his cheating and now suspect nature outweigh the financial concerns of Margarito.
One last thing:
It's also not just about Margarito, it's about sending a message to other fighters/trainers who might be considering doing the same thing. It's pretty easy to assume that a fighter could look at what kind of punishment Margarito received, which was basically nothing, and consider that the pro's of loading his gloves outweigh the cons. Punishment for this type of thing needs to be heavy-handed and respected across the board or it renders the commissions impotent and does little or nothing to discourage further cheating. In this way it potentially affects the lives and careers of thousands of fighters.
Margarito didn't get a 1 year ban in California, he got 1 year before he could go before the board and re-apply. I know he tried to apply Nevada but they told him to go to California to try again, you know where he would actually have to explain himself. That was the right thing to do, but Texas didn't care and just wants another Pacquiao fight probably. If he went back in front of California, he would get turned away again. He basically got life with the chance of being paroled in a year. That's NOT the system failing.
If Texas didn't care that he didn't go back to California, would it have made a difference that he was banned in California? I can almost guarantee you that the answer there is no. So the system only failed because all the states aren't completely unified. Texas is notorious for thinking they are their own separate entity in the Union, this is just another example of it. So I fail to see how the California or the system failed here. This is all on Texas doing what Nevada could have done but had the backbone not to do.
I was thinking that if Valero didn't commit suicide that would have been the fight in November instead of this, considering that Valero is also of top rank.
I was also thinking Pac should have chosen Berto or have a fight with Bradley at 140.
But unfortunately the sport we all love is just too shady as fuck with promoters not giving a shit about the sport but their pockets.
The Texas Boxing Commission must have had some kind of incentive to grant Margarito a license to fight in the state. Wait... where's the fight being held again? Texas Stadium? The home of the Dallas Cowboys and the greedy super-millionaire bastard owner Jerry Jones? Hmmm... if it smells like sh*t and looks like sh*t.... it's probably sh*t. Wouldn't be surprised to find that some TBC members suddenly have a new Lexus in the garage. Just a thought...
