Like I said all along Maidana is shite, Khan will demolish him!
I have been saying this for so long some people even saying he is the best in the division :vd:.
I have watched the Ortiz fight about ten times Ortiz uses his jab maybe twice in the whole fight, if they rematch Ortiz would beat him comfortably imo.
I just can't/couldn't get my head round Roach and a few on here saying Khan v Maidana is a fight for the future that needs building?? Building the guy is crap and if him and Khan didn't get it on soon they never would as he would be exposed and beat before they did and then Khan would always have that with him he ducked Maidana, the guy is so average Khan will slaughter him. I think Urango would beat and quite a few of the other top ten handily, if you didnt catch his fight last night go watch it to see how over rated this guy is.
Khan stops him for me.

Re: Like I said all along Maidana is shite, Khan will demolish him!
Now a lot of boxing fans know that Maidana is a granite chin bomber that lacks the finesse of Khan. No one is saying that Maidana is the better talent or boxer than Khan, but everyone knows that Khan has a serious weakness and that is his chin. Could Khan possibly outbox and tko Maidana, yes he can, could Khan get a UD against Maidana, well of course that's another possibility.
The myriad of questions are what happens when Maidana lands a flush shot on Khan's chin? Why does Roach want to build up a fight and avoid Maidana right now if he's so easy to take?
The answer of course all points to Khan's chin.

I guess you missed his fight with Corley last night? Granite chin? You sure about that ?Khan will demolish him, not sure if it was you but a couple on here have said they think Maidana is the best in the division LMAO.
He is very average and khan will destroy him come back to this thread when the fight happens.

No I haven't checked out the Corley fight, I'll watch it out later. The best in the division to me is Bradley, the most accomplished fighter in the division that takes on all comers.
For Maidana I rank him as a tie for 3rd with Khan, behind Bradley and Alexander. There was only 1 person I could think of that said Maidana was the best in the division and I think that was Pacstraightleft and being here for a while I think he's just a fan of mostly 1 certain fighter and not really knowledgeable about the sport. Other than that I haven't read too much of anyone ranking Maidana no.1 at 140.

very good post
think you could make a reasonable argument for khan being dominant in every single attribute that the sport of boxing requires
But marcos is a natural born fighter with a very good pedigree and loves to get into a good scrap. This will be another test for khan in america, last time out he fought the technician with fast hands, now he is going up against the brawler with a big punch.
-
Re: Like I said all along Maidana is shite, Khan will demolish him!
Haven't seen the fight yet, but I've read he made hard work of it.
This is against a 36 year old who has been soundly beaten every time he stepped up.
I like Maidana because he is pure and un moulded, I love Khan because of his skills (the fact he's British helps a lot) but the longer they go on through their careers, the better Khan is getting and Maidana isn't improving.
Khan gets taught by Roach, Maidana by some goat herder. I do think if the lad had some actual training, he could develop his natural talent into something good.
I'll hold my final judgment until I've seen the fight, but I am swaying to Khan simply out boxing him all night now.
Where did you watch the fight to Skel? Anyone got a vid?

Agree. Khan has it all except for the chin. Even Sugar Ray Leonard said it himself after the '04 Olympics that Khan could be the next himself, of course this was before Khan's chin was exposed in fights with Willie Limond and Prescott and whoever else that floored him.
If Khan had say Pacman's chin, his potential in this sport would be out of this world and imo he would be the heir as the next great superstar of this sport once Manny and Floyd retires or start declining in ability. He has the speed, power, mobility, boxing skills, the frame to move up multiple weight divisions, and the marketability to attract the masses like Leonard and De La Hoya, but that potential is severely being impacted by what looks to be a shitty chin.
It's a damn shame, and I'm being fair about that assessment.

Watched on a stream mate he looked slow his so called granite shin looked shaky rocked a good few times I always said he was average I know you like him but Khan would be far to good for him.

Re: Like I said all along Maidana is shite, Khan will demolish him!
I think Maidana has that Tyson esque appeal about him, straight from gutter into the ring.
But I also think he is too small against Khan, found this clip of round 12 from last night, either Corley is massive, but Maidana makes him look like a Mid Weight.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39kbF7DE5SI
I just see Khan boxing round the outside of the ring and simply not letting that chin get caught.

Re: Like I said all along Maidana is shite, Khan will demolish him!
I'm one of the guys who's said Golden Boy will want to build up Maidana for a fight with Khan. Not because he has potential though. It's more to do with protecting their investment in Khan. If Maidana was to KO Khan (which i don't think he would), Golden Boy would have nowhere to go with Khan, purely because Khan will have been ko'd twice by fighters who aren't recognised by the mainstream.
However, if Khan loses to Maidana when Maidana has had at least a little exposure, a Khan loss, although it would still be bad, it wouldn't be as devastating as it would be if he was to lose to Maidana now.
It's nowt to do with me rating Maidana. I'm with Skel, i think he's crap, and he's as gung-ho as he was against Ortiz, Khan would take his head off. Khan would stop him in around 5/6 rounds imo. He's far too good for Maidana.

I actually thought at the time of watching that fight that more was being made of maidana. Still he has a big punch and khan has no chin. so who knows.

Don't get me wrong. I'm a Khan supporter. But I honestly don't see bright future for him. Right now he's being pampered by Roach. He's just overhype. He will not survive 12 rounds against Maidana. Khan tends to exchange punches sometimes, and his chin will get tagged violently.
Maidana is my number 1 choice at 140 because.... Ummm..mm... It's just a gut instinct I guess.

Re: Like I said all along Maidana is shite, Khan will demolish him!
I don't think maidana is anywhere as bad as some say he is, just like i don't belive khan is close to as good as some think he is. Madiana vs khan would be a decent fight and answer questions for them both. Can khan take a punch ? Can maidana treat anyone higher than a prospect the way he handled ortiz and that cayo kid. I don't think anyone wonders if khan can box better than maidana of course he can, but madana will catch him at least a few times and last time he was caught he was slumped up in that corner with that prescott guy thinking he was hot shit all of the sudden. I'm just sayin khan has been already beaten by a lot worse than maidana, cause prescott is garbage so just prove to us it was a fluke. C'mon paulie doesn't count he really doesn't even hit back. If i had to bet i'd probably put my money on khan but i sure as heck wouldn't be surprised if i never saw that money again.

exactly, Khan obviously would be the favorite due to his size and overall better technical skill, but he would be taking a risk against a massive puncher (probably the hardest hitting fighter at that weight), Khan does tend to mix it up and get tagged, hell Malignaggi even managed to mark Khan up a bit and well that's the equivalence of having rolls of Charmin toilet paper thrown at you by a two year old, I want to see how Khan reacts after getting hit clean upstairs by a guy with awesome power, and believe me he'd get more credit for that fight than anything else he's done in his career

I'm torn, I'm a massive Khan fan, really rate his skills. But I just simply love Maidanas style and how he fights.
My head says Khan, my gut says Maidana.
If the fight happens, I'll favour Khan winning as I don't think they would have took the fight if they thought he could lose.
It has potential to be fight of the year though, I'm really looking forward to it happening.
Boxrec already has it down as booked!

Re: Like I said all along Maidana is shite, Khan will demolish him!
I think 9/10 times Khan beats Maidana, but his chin is always going to be a massive question mark and if Maidana hits him clean he will hurt him.
Regarding the Corley fight, I watched part of it in between watching Calderon-Segura and UFC 118, but it looked to me like Maidana just didn't take him seriously as an opponent. He was sloppy, inaccurate (even more so than usual), and looked like he expected to just walk all over Corley. I expect it was just an off-night, though I don't rate Maidana as highly as many people seem to, but I'd expect him to look totally different against Khan. That being said, I still think Khan is likely to beat him.

Re: Like I said all along Maidana is shite, Khan will demolish him!
People go on and on about Khan's chin, it's not just Khan's chin it is his overall defense. His defense has serious holes in it, he would probably beat Maidana but it's not like Khan is untouchable. Malignaggi tagged him clean early and often. People say that that only happened because he knew Malignaggi had no pop. I think that's making excuses for him. He has had trouble with the straight right hand his entire career. I'm kind of shocked people think so highly of him, I still think under Roach he still gets drawn into exchanges and tagged way to much. Roach is a master gameplanner though, so I think he would beat Maidana but how anyone thinks it's a forgone conclusion is beyond me.

everyone goes on about the light welter division and no one has mentioned kotelnik
he has already beaten maidana and should have beaten alexander
hes up there still isnt he?
To answer the thread tho, maidana has more than a punchers chance against kahn and kahn isnt good under pressure and maidana will show him some of that
the corley fight could have just been an off night? Or corley could have had the fight of his life? Or the styles could have mixed in corleys favour?

It wasn't a convincing victory for Kotelnik though. Some say Maidana got robbed.

It was a close fight, no one got robbed. I think I had Kotelnik winning by a round (or maybe I had Maidana winning by a round, I don't remember), but it was close enough that it could have gone either way, and given that the fight took place in Kotelnik's backyard the outcome is understandable.

IMO Maidana clearly won the fight, and the fact that it was scored so closely in Kotelnik's hometown lets you know that the wrong guy got the nod, i had it 115-112 for Maidana

where did you watch it? Why arent these fights on british tv?

Re: Like I said all along Maidana is shite, Khan will demolish him!
I've only seen bits of the Corley fight on You Tube, but by all accounts Maidana got his win and looked pretty decent for the majority of the rounds. Maybe not his best performance, but he deserves his shot at Khan. And we all want to see Khan in there with someone who can bang.

He looked horrible mate against a guy who is 9-13 in his last 22 fights, this guy is crap slow plodder with power. Khan will do a job on him with ease imo.

I need to watch it properly, but he is mandatory and deserves his shot. This was probably not Maidanas best showing, he admitted he was gassed in the last three rounds, but he might well be able to up his game for Khan. It's a fair fight for Khan too. It's a fight against a puncher and if Maidana is limited, then all the better for him.

Agreed with what's in bold. I'm not a Khan fan, but I admit that if he survived another test by a big puncher, like Maidana, and won, I'd give him a lot more credit than I gave him for his win over Paulie. Consider that Prescott is nothing special at junior welterweight (in fact, I'd favor Maidana to destroy him) but he knocked Khan out in one round, and since the fight with Prescott, not one of Khan's opponents - Paulie, Salita, Kotelnyk, Fagan, and Barrera - were junior welterweights that can punch. Whereas punching power is all Maidana possesses. My opinion if they meet is that Khan should win, if not dominate, but all Maidana needs is to land one big punch. And for that reason, the match is interesting.
Skel, we can agree that Khan's main weakness, and maybe only weakness, is his chin. If you were his handlers, who would you avoid? The answer is someone with punching power and enough boxing skills that there is a risk that eventually he'll tag Khan. That in a nutshell is Maidana. And that is why Roach avoided the mandatory fight with him to fight Paulie. Paulie has much more boxing skills than Maidana, but absolutely no punching power.

If i had to bet i'd probably put my money on khan but i sure as heck wouldn't be surprised if i never saw that money again.
exactly, Khan obviously would be the favorite due to his size and overall better technical skill, but he would be taking a risk against a massive puncher (probably the hardest hitting fighter at that weight), Khan does tend to mix it up and get tagged, hell Malignaggi even managed to mark Khan up a bit and well that's the equivalence of having rolls of Charmin toilet paper thrown at you by a two year old, I want to see how Khan reacts after getting hit clean upstairs by a guy with awesome power,
and believe me he'd get more credit for that fight than anything else he's done in his career
My opinion if they meet is that Khan
should win, if not dominate, but all Maidana needs is to land one big punch.
Paulie has
much more boxing skills than Maidana, but
absolutely no punching power.
Paulie would also make Maidana look like a novice, total shut out. We will just have to come back in December, I just can't wait to see the Khan haters and what they have to say after he makes Maidana look silly.

Re: Like I said all along Maidana is shite, Khan will demolish him!
Just watched the fight and Maidana looked out of shape, slow and a shadow of the guy that won all those fights in incredible style.
If he fights and looks like that, Khan will tear him apart with speed alone. But if he turns up, we could see a real tasty battle.

That's exactly what I thought when I was watching it. I really don't think he took Corley seriously as an opponent (who would?) and maybe he started to believe his own hype. I doubt he'll do anything half-assed in his preparation for Khan and I imagine he'll look like a different fighter than the one who stepped in the ring against Corley.

lets remember Maidana hadn't fought in 5 months, was marred with problems due to his promoters and manager taking advantage of him, i'm not saying that there's an excuse to look crappy against Corley of all people, but it could have been just that fight, he's looked great against guys that would mop the floor with Corley

To be fair though, it's all well and good making excuses like that, but nobody went easy on Khan losing to Prescott despite the fact he was actually fasting, which is far more detrimental than being inactive for 5 months...which is fairly normal for most fighters.

I know I've said something similar before, but I think the difference with Khan is that the Prescott KO was the culmination of a glaring weakness which was apparent throughout his career. It wasn't like he had an off-night and struggled against a lesser fighter, he was knocked out because his chin is his achilles heel. I like Khan, and I was cheering for him long before everyone else jumped on the bandwagon, but this situation, like the Alexander - Kotelnik fight, are totally different IMO than the Prescott KO. If Maidana, and Alexander, continue to struggle against less opposition, then they will be deserving of the type of doubts and criticisms which plague Khan.
