The magnificant seven loses it's top of the bill.. what a surprise
Just about everyone knew this would happen, fucks sake.
Absolute f**ks sake...... Already got my tickets for this one too......
Unless the replacement is say an Andy Lee this can no longer be PPV can it? Surely.
Yup, I'm not paying £15 simply for the Cleverly fight :(
Rumours Ryan Rhodes is out too, I reckon if this is the case the bloke Rhodes is fighting will possibly move up and fight Macklin?
Told you lot, joke that is Warren will still make it ppv.
Thank God I done the sensible thing and waited until the last minute to buy my tickets.
Frank Warren can kiss my ring if he thinks I am going to this.
Well what can Warren do in reality? Was a big ask to get 7 big fights on the same night without any problems, with him having no big players anymore he is in a difficult situation.
But this will hit Warren big I think he needs to up his game and quick. He might have to explore signing up some foreign stars to keep his company going.
It's PPV.
There was actually 9 title fights on the night, obviously to safegaurd against pull outs.
It's ridiculous to lose arguably the main attraction though
Like the way Warren's website says fuck all about Barker pulling out haha!!
Been known for best part of 24 hours but the site says fuck all wonder why ;)
Yes I agree, does anyone worry for Warren's future? I mean he has no big names and the fighters he has on the verge of World Title shots are not all that for me especailly Cleverly he is very over rated for me is non existant defence will cause him lots of problems.
He has alot of fighters on big money like the De Gales of his stable, but no big money makers hence the reason he basically put very good friday night fight fights all together on a PPV bill.
I suppose a good think with Warren not having no big names in his stable is we will have alot better domestic match ups.
Just about confirmed Ryan Rhodes is out too.
Not that bothered about this one but still two down 5 to go Brook Jennings has got to be fav to go next.
DARREN BARKER AND TONY SIMS ON THE MATTHEW MACKLIN PULL-OUT
DARREN BARKER’S trainer Tony Sims has revealed the fighter did not want to pull out of the Matthew Macklin fight, despite a serious injury which originally flared up weeks ago, while the boxer himself admits he is “falling to pieces”. British and European middleweight champion Barker broke down in sparring this week, and Sims made the tough decision to pull his man out of the huge September 18 clash with arch-rival macklin.
“Everyone knows he had a hip operation a few months back and the day before yesterday [Tuesday August 31] he broke down for a second time. A few weeks ago is when it first happened and I gave him five days off, but it went again this week midway through when he was sparring Danny Cadman.
“He asked for a few more days off but how long do you keep doing that for? The main thing is his health. He’s made an appointment to see his surgeon in Harley Street – it’s just a bit of a choker because I think he thought he’d be alright but maybe he came back too soon. It was 12 weeks to the day after the operation that he started training but he wanted the fight so badly.”
The search is on for a new opponent for Macklin in Birmingham and it looks likely that Barker will give up the European title so the new match can go ahead for the belt. It’s a risky act of generosity but Barker would expect to be highly rated by the EBU upon his return to fitness. Right now, however, Barker is too upset to look towards the future.
“It’s all come down on me,” a distraught Barker confessed. “I’ve got a cold now as well. I’m falling to pieces. It’s a nightmare.
“I don't want to go in not 100 per cent because if I went in and lost I wouldn’t want to be coming out with excuses. I really tried to come through but there's no way I could do it. I always thought I might be able to but I can’t.”
“He’s pretty depressed, in a bad way,” Sims added. “We’ve never lied about having the operation but I just think he thought he’d be bang on.
“Good luck to Macklin, he’s trained hard. We was looking for the fight for the last two years so maybe it will happen down the line. I think he’ll probably end up giving up the belt because until the surgeon sees him we don’t know how long he’ll be out. We don’t want to hold the belt up anyway. Macklin’s trained hard and deserves his shot.”
Boxing News
I tried to leave it as late as I could, but eventually on Monday my mates harrassing me to get it sorted meant I finally booked the tickets. Within 48 hours, one of the fights is gone, and another under threat.
I echo the FFS of thread title. As for Cleverly, I'm hoping that now he's got Uni out of the way and can focus solely on his boxing, he will make some more big strides forward. (or just get injured now I've jinxed him.)
