Khan v Maidana not in the UK now Vegas or Detroit
Amir Khan set to fight Marcos Maidana in Detroit or Las Vegas | Mail Online
M.E.N and O2 booked out on the 11th December, Detroit because there is a big Muslim community?

Re: Khan v Maidana not in the UK now Vegas or Detroit
Good for the kid if he takes on Maidana, but as of right now it's just mere speculation. Let's see if the fight can be agreed upon.

The details and contracts have been agreed all that is needed is the signature should be signed and sealed in the next few days. ;)

Naz-Soto was put in Detroit because of the huge Arab community - it did 13-15,000 punters.

If that is the case, then Khan silences a lot of critics including myself. I have never denied his talent, but just wished he stepped it up a little and it looks like he has.

Richard what ever his name Sheffner? Has said that contracts have been passed to both parties and just waiting for them to be signed.

Re: Khan v Maidana not in the UK now Vegas or Detroit
IF the fight happens i expect khan to out box him. maidana does have a punchers chance though.

Re: Khan v Maidana not in the UK now Vegas or Detroit
looking forward to this one;D

I agree with this statement. He signs up to fight a big puncher in Maidana and he is due credit.

Re: Khan v Maidana not in the UK now Vegas or Detroit
If Khan schools Maidana all the haters will say he was crap anyway - lucky to beat Ortiz, lost to Kotelnik, struggled with old Corley, then everyone will start claiming Khan is ducking Bradley, ducked Marquez, ducked Katsidis...
You know it's gonna happen, it always does :D

Re: Khan v Maidana not in the UK now Vegas or Detroit
It's a step in the right direction though, Fenster. Maidana is no name, but carries a bit of lick. Khan might well outbox him, but it's on the record that I think it is a step in the right direction. A lot of people want to see Khan in with a puncher. Even if not the most skilled, it's a proper step in the direction of potential risk. And that's what all boxing fans want to see, a fight with just that slight element of danger. It Khan wins this, then no doubt I will want more danger! Khan is not among the elite at 140 yet, despite his win over Paulie. There are more important fighters out there. Stick him in there with Bradley, that's what I want above all else.

I have no problem with you being a Khan hater, Miles, but to say he is not elite at 140 is ridiculous.
He has wins over current top ten rated lightwelters and has better form than current top ten rated lightwelters. He is clearly an elite 140 fighter.
However much you dislike him this can't be disputed. Fact.

Oh please, you're making it sound like that people who criticized Khan was doing it because they were irrational.
They just wanted to see him in a fight where it's not a foregone conclusion that he would win easily. As Miles put it this is a good fight because Maidana has the power to ko him like that, instead of fighting guys like feather fisted Paulie, crap WBA fringe contender like Salita, trying to fight a shot Morales, or a small and undersized JMM who has no business fighting past 135.
Khan is finally taking a fight that has an air of danger in it.

No, he is not elite. He does have the potential to be so though. He's just a belt holder.
It's all smoke and mirrors thus far, but a Maidana fight is a serious move in the right direction.
The Khan hater tag is wearing a bit thin tbh, he's doing alright for himself and I don't see too many threads where I am attacking him for his boxing these days.
Okay, if he sends a text of his willy and it gets in the papers and someone starts a thread then I might be critical, but otherwise, I am pretty easy going.
Like GB says let's just see him in good fights for once.

Most are irrational. Most will discredit the Maidana win the second it's over (if Khan wins).

Yes Maidana is a dangerous puncher. But he is not a great fighter. He does not have great form. Therefore Khan's win will be dismissed by the genuine haters.
Everyone on earth knows Khan has a china-chin - almost every fight is a danger.

Re: Khan v Maidana not in the UK now Vegas or Detroit
Nothing has warranted that kid to be an elite. He's still young and pretty crude. He is completely gun shy in fighting punchers with <33% KO ratios. He just hasn't had the fights to support the logic of him being an elite. An elite for the UK? Yes.. World? I don't think so.
He does have an elite trainer. (I'm pretty sure hornfinger is about to jump in and put something in this thread about Pacquiao is a cheat, because I mentioned Freddy Roach)
Even if he KO1 Maidana in this fight, Khan is not an elite. It takes more than just 2 wins over top 10 divisional guys.

Re: Khan v Maidana not in the UK now Vegas or Detroit
Miles mate have you had a fall??
Hahaha not often I disagree with much you say but Khan is way down there?? You have Alexander at 2? He has beat Urango shot to fuck Witter and got a gift v Kotelnik, Khan beat Kotelnik with ease and a solid win over Malinaggi who would still beat most of the top ten including Maidana and Urango imo.
Khan is number 3 at worst he is my number 2 behind Bradley. How can you have Witter ahead of Khan? He was beaotn by Bradley and quit against Alexander and hasn't fought for donkeys?

Oh, for goodness sake, I was only having a laugh with Witter. Don't take me so seriously, Fenster called me out on a top five and I realised I was flailing. No need to jump on me with the VD face signs! ;D

Go have another read he said elite of 140 :vd:
So wins over:
Kotelnik
Malinaggi
Maidana
don't make him the elite of 140?? For me them three wins alone against the other fighters resume has a valid case for number 1.

Exactly.
Whether you like Khan or not you can't deny he is a top dog at 140 - his formlines piss all over most in the division.

Khan should win this, but if Maidana can connect solidly it could get interesting.

Re: Khan v Maidana not in the UK now Vegas or Detroit
LOL reading back through this thread! I am trying to be more fair to Khan, but obviously that inner seething at the Barrera result is still lurking beneath. Might need to pay someone to help me out with that. ;D
-
Re: Khan v Maidana not in the UK now Vegas or Detroit
Maidana isn't really that big of a deal. I know people want to see Khan against a puncher in hopes he'll be knocked out but Maidana is there to be outboxed and Khan could and should win about every round against him. Maidana is wild and can be outboxed, unless he connects with an unknown hailmary out of nowhere when Khan isn't set defensively he's going to lose about every round.
Someone like Bradley would be more of a challenge as he is smart aggression aside from just aggression like Maidana is.
-
Re: Khan v Maidana not in the UK now Vegas or Detroit
I've never really understood all the hate that's chucked in Khan's direction. People forget that he's still only 23 and yet has achieved quite a lot in the sport already. There's still a lot more to come from him too and I think he genuinely wants to fight the best out there. I'm pretty sure GDP are making most of the decisions on who he should be fighting to protect their interest. If this fight with Maidana happens I expect Khan will win and win quite comfortably. There's always a chance Maidana could land a big shot but I'm confident Khan will win almost every round, and who knows maybe get a late KO? I still don't think the hate will stop though. People will come up with excuses like Maidana was overrated or the usual rubbish people spout out after someone win's a lot easier than they thought or wanted. People just need to accept that Khan is a very talented boxer who can still get better.

Re: Khan v Maidana not in the UK now Vegas or Detroit
I saw in the sun today that Frank Warren is offerng Khan the winner of Jennings/Brook with a six figure check if he takes it. My bet he doesnt and if he does i think its fair to say he's dodging Maidana!

Re: Khan v Maidana not in the UK now Vegas or Detroit
Once this fight is official, people will have to stop knocking Khan, this is the fight everyone wanted him to take and it looks like he's taken it.
After this who really is there? Bradley, if he fights and beats him, people will have nothing they can say about him.
